Tops to wear with short A-line shirts

I bought 2 new skirts last week for my summer casual capsule.

I'm a bit nervous about them as they are pretty short for this mother in her 40's.

I'm also a bit worried about what to wear with them, as I am thinking of waist enhancing looks, which I haven't bought for years

The denim skirt is a bit loose around my waist, which could make tucking difficult (or maybe I should just return it?)

I am keen to buy a chambray waist tie sleeveless shirt, but I'd love to read other suggestions.

I really like the first silhouette, although it's a bit blurry. I like the idea of the second silhouette, namely a cropped top with an a-line skirt, but I think it might work better if the shirt were a bit shorter, maybe? The line of the pockets is really close to the hem of the shirt. How close are the pockets to the waistband, out of curiosity?

NB I really like my chambray waist tie shirt, as long as it's paired with mid- to high-rise garments.

The denim skirt does seem a little loose and a little short, but the white one is wonderful--a great length, with waist-accentuating flare. I'm not able to enlarge the photo, but from what I can see, the deep blue top looks great with it. Very fresh and pretty.

The denim skirt seems to me little looser so can't say exactly and little short maybe it looks like because of that's loose. The white one is perfect, the length is absolutely OK. So maybe try denim smaller size. Waist definition top, short top and tucked and semi tucked top would be great.

The white looks lovely and great for summer. Will you tuck in tops or do you need to buy truly cropped tops for it?

Since you're going to be active in the denim skirt, have you given it a bend-over or squat-down test? (I find they can pull up a lot in the back.)

Agree, the white one is pretty and looks like a perfect fit. I like it with the blue top and the idea of a tie waist shirt. I like the denim skirt but it does look a little big, and I like it with a cropped top. It might look very different with a tucked in top.

return the denim skirt. keep the white eyelet skirt. looks good with the blue sweater.

The cropped top was just one I put on in the shop - I don't own it or any like it.

So it seem a general consensus to keep the white one and return the denim?

I agree- I'd pass on this denim one. You look great in skirts; hang on and be more picky.
Id look for a shorter boxy T type top, or a shorter lightweight knit with a banded bottom, in a softer color, for the white skirt.
Sometime when I'm trying to sort this out I go where there af a lot of tops lined up-- something like our TJMaxx or a thrift shop -- and, if shapes are what I'm not sure of, I'll just try on for shaoe and silhouette, so then I might figure out what to target in the right color.
When I'm trying to match color or decide what color, or dark or light, to emphasize, I'll pull things for color only, to figure that out.

I actually like them both. And I have similar styles too. I don't think the denim skirt is too short. You have fab legs and can easily wear that silhouette.

In my experience, any top that you can fold at the waistband of the denim skirt will work. If you can tuck in - even better. I see that skirt looking great with a simple tee and sneakers.

The white skirt will look best with cropped top. Or a top with a banded bottom so you can decide what length to wear it at.

From what I can see the white skirt looks great. I don't think the problem with the denim skirt is the length but the fit, so I say return.

I love the white, I don't think the denim is a great fit. I think you can do better. It looks to me as if it would swivel around which is quite annoying.

Just an update. I returned it (for a gift card, as it was a sale item - I hadn't realised this was their policy)
I tried one size down, but am not convinced it was the way to go. A few other shops had A-line denim skirts too, but not in my size.

I remembered that I do have a denimlike skirt already - put aside as it is better at a slimmer weight. I'm down a bit, so I'll give it a go..
