Today’s outfit that may or may not reflect whether brown suits me

Old brown tie-front cotton sweater thing, dress thrifted a few days ago so I had to wear it, close up of face … hair looks like a floofy mess but then it looks different every day. Maybe the office toilet also does not provide the optimal lighting?! Ehh.

Your silver hair is GORGEOUS with your pretty pink skin and matching fab brows!

That cool toned brown cardigan is excellent with your complexion. Works well with your lovely new dress.

Your specs are bronze! I never knew that - (thought your specs were black). I like that warmer metal on you too!

I find that brown very flattering on you, Cookie. It looks like a soft, dark cocoa brown to me. The new dress is very pretty on you, too.

Oh, and I just noticed that gorgeous necklace--wow.

You mentioned lighting here and in your blog comment. A while back, my husband replaced a light bulb in one of our bathrooms, and suddenly I really didn't like looking in that bathroom mirror. The light was too yellow! He switched out the bulbs for natural ones, and it's much better now. Maybe you can look into what kinds of bulbs you have near your mirrors at home and see whether you want to change them.

Cookie, I really love your hair, the curls and the colour are really pretty. At the same time I do understand that sometimes you might hate your hair yourself, because that happens to me and has done at times ever since 2007 when I started going grey. That’s 18 years for me!
I think it’s difficult to be satisfied with one’s own look all the time.
My dissatisfaction usually wears off when I think about what I would have to put up with to change things- messy grow-out, hair dye, etc etc- time, money. Then I feel better until the next time!
I do think the brown cardigan looks good with your new dress.

Cookie, you look super fab! I love your hair colour (okay, admittedly, I am biased, lol) but like Angie, I think it works exceptionally well with your skin tone. Plus, it is just so fun. The curls are special. And then that brown sweater is a terrific colour on you. Rosy and cool (at least in the light you are photographed in.)

My hair's been silver almost ten years -- since 2016. It took a bit of adjustment. Mostly, I love it, but yes, there are times when I feel bored by it. I know for sure it suits me more than the blonde was suiting me towards the end of my time as. blonde -- that's not a question in my mind. And yet sometimes I would like a change. I dyed it blue for a few weeks last spring -- that was fun. I can see experimenting more with temporary dyes in future.

Nothing wrong with the hair, don't we all struggle with hair sometimes?! I know I do.

Thank you all so very deeply for your kind reassurances! I’m not even sure I can identify or articulate further what my problem with my hair color is except that I’m a used to it being a warm brown and this cool shade seems alien. Also, it doesn’t even look that bad in the mirror but then I’ll see something like this generally unflattering photo (with my handsome brother!) and think “Is THAT what I look like?!” (I think that sunscreen was also turning my face orange?!) So I don’t know which is how it “really” looks.

Thanks also for the glasses love. I’m going to have to start a whole new thread about this! I love these bronze frames but I’ve had them over 10 years (even rebought them once) and they’re getting a little beat up and the lenses are so cloudy and scratched I can barely see. So I am going to have to start the ordeal of looking for something new.

But I’m glad I do not have to swear off of wearing brown.

Cookie I had exactly the same issue when my hair was silver. Certain photos would make me hate my hair. I'm not a good example because I finally caved and started applying temporary colour shampoos. Yours seriously looks good in the photo with your brother. I think you on to something when you say You are used to seeing yourself in a particular way.

Hair is fab, no matter what (salt&pepper, silver or warm brown as you said it used to be) as it has a gorgeous texture and cut! The brown shrug looks great, too, especially that I see a match with your specs here? Usually, when I want to use a color I feel it's not really mine I try to use the same color somewhere else, and so it is immediatelly easier to wear!

Your skin tone can wear warmer and cooler tones! You lucky fish.

Also, give yourself permission to colour your hair if that's what you fancy doing! Add some warm streaks, if you like
