To Keep or Not to Keep??? Jackets and blazers

Now with some time on my hands, I have some time to take care of my closet.

I ended up sorting through my 2 small closets (thank God I don't have walk-ins), I have kept a lot of my favorites for the sheer fact that they are arty or cool or have a great design detail that I would hate to give up. So, I'll need your help in making decision whether to keep these items below. It's just so hard!! As you know I have an eclectic taste: i go for modern, or vintage, or boho, and my go-to classic retro. I think I have multiple personalities when it comes to my clothes but pretty much stick to basics (when it comes to work)

With that, here are some blazers/jackets. Are they worth keeping? Some have fit issues due to COVID weight gain, but all in all they fit.

#1, 2, 4, and 5 are Anthropologie. #3 and 8 are from Target.

Will post dresses later.

Pretty collection! The only one I think it's not working anymore - #6-7.
Jacket #1, 3 and 8-9 look the best to my eye. Lucky you to have such fun pieces!

What's your criteria for why you'd keep something or let it go? I usually go by how much of a category I need, combined with how I want to look. If you already have plenty of jackets -- meaning, plenty and more to wear for any opportunity when you'd be able to wear one, then I'd evoke criteria #1 ("all I need") and let all of these go. But that's because I get overwhelmed when I have way way more of an item than I could actually ever use. I can't see what I have when I have that many.

If you have room in the jacket category to keep a couple, then my second criteria would be to go with how you want to look from here forward (rather than how you wanted to look when you bought them). Would you buy any of these again, in a heartbeat, and look forward eagerly to wearing it at the first chance? If so, that would help you know which ones might stay.

But you might have very different criteria for why you'd make a decision to keep or let go. Maybe you're going by how they fit, whether you like the color, whether they're comfortable, how much you've worn them in the past, etc.

slim cat - I agree on #6 and 7, but maybe I can change out the red buttons. It fits great and love the vintage vibes but it's those buttons I guess.

Liz - My criteria is to get rid of things that don't fit. The items that make me feel good and look fab are things worth keeping. But you are right. What good is an item of clothing if I don't wear it? Right?

Oh, so nice to see your fab pieces. I think these all still seem quite "you" depending on where you see your style in the future. My favorites just from gut reaction are 1, 3, and 4-5.

My favourites are one and two, so cool and quirky. If you still love them I say keep them, especially that they are so unusual. Their time will probably come around again.

I am very fond of #1 and #3, but the rest are a bit busy. That may be a personal preference, though. But I think #1 is definitely the most conventionally flattering, if that matters.

I really like 1 and 3. 2 is my least favourite -- it seems a bit too sweet. 8-9 is ok -- it may be a good piece for pulling an outfit together, so I don't think it has to have raving standalone qualities to work. The others have an interesting retro vibe that seems to work for you -- I can see them working well with skirts. It really depends what vibe you're after at this stage in the game. Love the attitude of the Adidas jacket in your other post!

Wow, fun jacket lab!

It may depend on how you style them.
It is good to use your base layer there to show the details, but the different jackets/ vests seem to me to go with different things.
I was thinking 6 is too ruffly, but it could be great with wider pants.
# 2 does not send me unless you need it for an outfit- Completer.

Okay, looks like #2 is not doing too well.

Janet - I have no idea where my style is going. Last Fall into Winter, I was going for the minimalist look which didn't too long. I do love the sleekness of minimalist, but my fondness for prints and color overcame that style.

AliceWonders - you are too kind. I guess I see structural in my pieces so it is hard to let them go.

Star - you are making it too hard to decide. Hahha!

CarolS - I agree on #2. We will nix that. I have plenty of skirts which I have not worn. I'm mostly a pants person but it's time to showcase those.

I really like #1 and # 3 the most. #3 is the standout for me because it highlights your waist. #2 is a little too twee with the pattern.

I can see why you like them all. I love 1,3,4/5,6/7.

I think 2 is the one I would pass on, and maybe 8...it may be the piece that pulls an outfit together. My favourites are 1 and 4/5.

Right now I’m not getting rid of anything “dressy” unless i really don’t like it, because I’m not sure I’m in the right mind set to evaluate it. Since i think its unlikely you will wear any of these this year, if you like the fit, I’d hold on till next year and then relook at them. And I don’t know about you’re business, but when we go back to an office it will probably be 3 days a week, so even that will change, and I suspect even more casual that it was before we left, its hard to put the genie back in the bottle, so that might be part of your consideration as well.

I don’t want to get rid of any clothing I still like if it still fits. Which is why my wardrobe has 163 items still!
And I have been trying hard for several years now since joining YLF start of 2017, to buy what I not only like but what is also practical. I used to buy too much that I thought was “cute” or “pretty” or “would be good for going out to dinner”. So I understand your having all these.
Sorry but I wonder if 6/7 is a little tight?
I like all the rest! Also agree with KKards, it would be a shame to ditch them and then find 2021 to be a much freer year?

Tricky! They could all be styled as super statements, so it is more an emotional decision for you. I would keep the vests for sure.

I love 4 - 7 especially, the collar and waist detailing are cute. And I adore puffy shoulders. I think they would look super with jeans too. Although I have just taken a second look at 6/7 and I am thinking that if the buttons don't do up, pass it on. So on balance, keep the first of the two white jackets, the one with the longer sleeves.

kkards, Jenni NZ, Liesbeth - You are so right. I may have to keep them. FYI, I work in a very conservative place, hence my eclectic wardrobe: conservative at work, and quirky outside of work.

shevia - all my clothes are emotional. LOL!

Jane - the buttons feel almost junior-ish, so will definitely have to let go of that jacket.

Angie - That jacket is going in to the good will as of today.

These are all so different it would be hard to decide! I personally like the vest ones the most, then 1 and 6/7 but you should go with your gut feel.

Most of them are fab on you, have interesting design or elegant lines and emphasize your beautiful figure. However, 6/7 looks too small and also too twee for your style. My favourites are 1, 3 and 8/9.

Agree that 3 and 8/9 are great for work. However, you could also make them look more quirky or fun by combining them with i.e. patterned pants, leather pants, a simple casual dress or a knit skirt + tank top or long-sleeved tee + sandals or booties + arty jewellery.
