To Hack or Not to Hack, That is the Question.

I was cleaning under the bed yesterday and found two pairs of trousers in a clothing bag that holds fabric for my daughter. No idea when I put them there. The good news is they fit but I am not sure if they are current as is or is I should hack them to make cropped trousers. I have also included the only pair of trousers hanging in my closet that I rarely wear. All of these are about 8 to 10 years old. So what do you think?

Oh, I also created a pin board of cropped pants last night to give me some idea on how to style cropped trousers.

In my opinion, none of these make your obviously-toned butt look as awesome as it should. I think they're too baggy. That won't change even if you hack them off. I defer to Angie's expert opinion, however.

I'm going through the same thing with a pair of super old crop pants I was thinking of turning into shorts. My thought is that I'm not going to wear them as they are right now so I have nothing to lose by hacking them into shorts. So I say hack away!

I confess that I don't know how dress pants are supposed to fit anymore. But, all of these pairs seem too short anyway. Why not try to hack them ?

Deb, thank you SO MUCH for the pinterest board. I have been struggling with this and did a few searches and didn't find anywhere near as many good examples of the look as you did. I am following your board so I don't lose track.

I think it is worth a try since they were "found" and you have nothing to lose. I prefer the cropped pants to be a touch loose and drapey (I know that isn't really a word). It gives you a chance to play with the look without investing anything but time and if it works, you will feel a great sense of satisfaction for your cleverness.

The way I see it, these are not PPL anyway. You didn't know you had them. What is to lose with chopping and playing? That is called having fun with fashion. And you have the height to carry off this look. GO for it!!

I'd give it a try. The last two pair seem pretty wide-legged--wider than the first pair. A lot of the styles you pinned are actually not that wide, which was a surprise to me. Some of those farther down your Pinterest board, such as those by Rachel Comey, are quite wide, so you may be able to approximate them by cropping these pants you have.
