This is the only way I can explain how I ended up buying this dress! I have no idea where I can wear it but it looked so much better than all those darn pants that I succumbed.
It is a bit too short and the neckline a bit too low. I styled it here with leggings and a white shirt to fix those shortcomings. Does it look totally ridiculous? I never had anything even close in style so I have no idea how it should look.
Also how about this color? Too bright? I am not wearing any makeup here...
If it does not look totally atrocious where one can wear it? It feels too much for work when this color and style are combined even though my work environment is as casual as they come. Should I just return it and forget about it?
Please help me!
ETA: I forgot to mention that I bought this dress in H&M...

It looks gorgeous! The color is vibrant, but not fluorescent or glow-in-the-dark. I find it very flattering on you. And even without leggings the dress does not seem that short. You could always try wearing it out on a short errand just to see how you'll feel in it. It is beautiful on you, IMO.

Wow-- I LOVE it. Beautiful and very dramatic. I would also look excellent with a navy turtle and some skinny jeans underneath. or just skinnies and the white blouse, gorgeous. Maybe even with your turquoise/teal mandarin collar silk tunic under.

I love this! The color is fantastic and the tulipy shape is one of my favorites. Because of the shape, I don't think it's too short even without leggings.

I like Elly's suggestion to try the turquoise tunic! Or maybe, to tone it down for work, try one of your jackets over it... maybe the gibson riding jacket?

Sveta, it's simply GORGEOUS on you! My word! The crisp white button down underneath is a stroke of genius! Does it have a tie belt, and you've tied a scarf around the waist? I love it with the white shirt--second the idea of wearing skinnies with it on the bottom during the cooler months. I also love the idea of a turtleneck underneath--super chic! For warmer months, maybe some denim clams and a cami in a bright complementary color, like vivid medium blue or dark purple? I agree that it doesn't look too short as-is, with bare legs. Oh, what about with the white shirt and some medium gray tights and your gray tall boots?

I don't care for it as much with black, but that's just my hang up about pumpkin and black = Halloween. I think this could be such a signature dress for you--very dramatic and clean looking, and so stylish.

Wow! To HECK with pants, I say, when you can look as good as you do in a dress! This is super fun. I think you can wear it with and without leggings. I am not sure what the fabric is, but if it will admit tights you could wear tall boots in fall/ early spring. Later, when it warms up, sandals, and a cami instead of the shirt. A turtleneck would work, or a U neck cami or T. You can switch up the belts and also try it with your scarves.

Also, if the colour feels like too much for work, how about "toning it down" with grey as per Angie's bright jeans formula. I know you have some grey in la wardrobe. Denim will also work with this really well. AND your new teal bag.

Love Jonesy's idea of denim clams or denim leggings, which I believe you already have. With a blue underlayer or over layer. Perfect!

I don't think it looks too short at all, however, I can understand your reservations about the neckline. It looks great layered over the white shirt. I agree with other's suggestions that maybe a blazer in a neutral color would tone it down enough for work.

I adore it with the blouse and leggings - I would wear to work myself, but if it is too dressy for your workplace... what about a nice dinner, show, party etc? I always have a hard time finding festive dresses with sleeves.

Honestly I did not expect such united approval! I was seriously considering to return it as not fitting my lifestyle but now I need to reconsider You gave me so many great ideas to style it with leans, jeans, boots, turtlenecks,etc. that I just have to play with it more!
All my hubby said was: " you like your red color, don't you" even though it is ORANGE. Men!!!
I have not seen it in another color in the store and I have not found it online at all. I guess black may be easier to wear but somehow orange feels more fun! Maybe it will be my one trendy orange item for this spring!
Jonesy, I don't have any reservations about wearing orange and black together, especially as the sash of this dress has black embroidery. It is attached in the front up to side seams and has two long orange ends. I tied them in a bow on the back first and did not like it, but then I crossed the ends on the back and tied them in front as obi belt: this feels much better.
The only turtlenecks I have now are black and camel. That much of black may be too much but camel may work. I also think I need to get turtlenecks in other colors.
As for layering a blazer over: this skirt shape is tricky for layering. I think it can be layered with a very cropped jacket only - my denim jackets may work.
Again, thank you for your encouragement! It was nice to know I did not loose my mind...

Your cropped denim jackets should work, Sveta. Remember my grey ponte knit pencil skirt with the high waist and gathers? It's basically a tulip shape, too. And it looks FAB with a super cropped corduroy denim-style jacket. Sorry I am not on my home computer so do not have the pics but you can check old threads if you want. It will also look good with a really cropped sweater or bolero type topper.

There are so many fantastic ideas here, not much to add. But I do think the contrast of black leggings and white shirt is a bit much. I too don't think it's too short for bare legs, but if you're less than comfortable, maybe try lighter or coloured leggings with the white shirt --- which was an INSPIRED idea! --- or else a darker coloured cami or similar.

For cooler weather, would you care to layer a sheath dress under it, perhaps? That might also make it work-appropriate without a blazer... maybe?

This looks great with the white shirt and leggings. Great find! I don't see why you can't wear this too work, this doesn't look too over the top to my eye. (But I am going to work in bright green blazers so take my opinion with a grain of salt.)

Majorly gorgeous! I love it with the animal print? belt you are showing. Dramatic and lovely. Who needs pants? I don't really understand why this doesn't fit into your lifestyle? Isn't a pretty versatile smart piece that can be dressed up or down and you could wear out shopping/eating/working?
