These taupe (not nude) booties - can I do better and how?

A few days ago I was looking for suggestions for nude/beige/sand booties, heeled oxford or chunky pumps (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ed-oxfords). While I got confirmation that this is a challenging quest, I was quite enchanted with these Fidji booties Parsley suggested and decided to order them to try, even though they are taupe not beige. Someone requested I post photos, so here we go.

I'm 90% sure that I will return them, sadly. The shoes themselves are beautiful - I understand now why Fidji fans rave about the brand. Well made, very pretty, very comfortable. At this price level I'm going to be hyper picky, though, and 1) I think I'll hold out for a sand/beige color rather than taupe (they are more grey than beige), and 2) I'm also not sure whether this particular shape really looks that great with my skirts.

I'd actually love to get some feedback on that 2nd point: How do they look on me with these skirts and the dress? The shoes I'll end up buying *have* to look good with these items; I cannot justify shoes that are sub-optimal or are better with pants than skirts. And for some reason I'm not loving the look - is it because the vamp is high? Or is it the color contrast that makes the horizontal line so much more obvious, and maybe if they were more sand/nude colored it would look better because there would be more of a tone-on-tone look with the hose?

Any input much appreciated, since I'll keep looking and any help figuring out the most flattering shape/style would be great. Thanks!

I find the vamp to be too high for a skirt look. Plus if you really want nude I think you should keep looking for the perfect shoe.

I really like these shoes but the high vamp combined with the slightly chunky look makes them a little bit challenging for skirts.

Do they need to be closed toed for winter? I wore these all summer and they were amazing - http://www.zappos.com/sofft-pa.....inalustrop. They are just the bomb with skirts. They are the shoes I wear when I want to bring my A game to the party. Sadly they are shelved until spring.

I really like that they are not completely nude, I wanted them to be slightly darker than my skin tone.

Modgrl, love the shoes you linked to, but closed toe is a must - I'm in Seattle and want to wear these on fall and even winter days. Peep toes or sandal styles won't work for me; looking for something substantial and on the chunky side, (But still flattering when worn with skirts, of course...)

I actually love these shoes. In my opinion, the high vamp works with skirts because the shoes are low contrast and fitted around the ankle. The buckles are edgy and cool, but very streamlined, so I think they work with more refined looks.

I can understand that you might want to return if you're looking for a warmer color, but I do really like how this color bookends your hair. To me they seem like 10's!

I don't think that the vamp is too high. To my eye, these are killer booties and you wear them very well, Antje. Edgy!

The decision on the colour I leave to you. It's cooler than you normally wear - but that is not a bad thing. I would wear these in a Seattle Summer

I actually totally love them with your skirt and dress, Antje!! With your fab legs the vamp doesn't look too high at all, and the booties themselves are fantastic! For me the only question would be if they are warm enough to wear in the colder months. (even if they weren't, I'd absolutely consider keeping them for warmer temps, they are so amazing on you!!)

I think they look edgy and cool (but then again I have no problems wearing high-vamped shoes/booties with skirts :), but if you aren't feeling them then they should go back. I do like taupe a lot, but it isn't a nude exactly, so maybe you should hold out for nude if that's what your heart desires.

I think they look GREAT on you. Maybe your eye just needs to adjust to the look of booties with skirts?

Hi Antje, I think is the first time I've ever seen pictures of you! So nice to make your acquaintance.

FWIW, My eye is really getting used to this look. The other day, when you posted these shoes, I thought that I would never wear shoes like this, but seeing them on you, well that might just change my mind entirely!

I graviitate towards a low vamped shoe and trying to lengthen the leg line, BUT with your shapely legs and delicate ankles, I really like them! They look very modern and hip in a way that a low vamped shoe could never look, no matter how flattering it is.

I think they look nice, modern and hip. On the other hand I understand your hesitation as the color is not nude, but mushroom (on my computer at least). Would you wear them with tights/hosiery? If a color closer to the shoe it could work better to your eye.

I actually love them. I don't think the vamp is too high. But, it's not a strictly classic look...but I don't think that's you, anyway! I think they go fantastically with your colorful skirts and printed dress. I like this color - I tend to prefer the cooler "mushroom" beige color. I would advise you to keep them, but it's up to you if you can get past the untraditional look and color.

I'm still getting used to the whole booties with skirts idea, but I think you look trendy and cool in them, and I like the color.

One of these days I'm going to get brave and try that look myself. I tried on some black ones with a skirt and black tights the other day and my husband said it was a Wicked Witch of the West look! Sigh! Back to the drawing board...

I love them, they are perfect for skirts imo. If I were you, my only problem with these would be that they are not booties per se. You cannot wear them with socks if you want to, which is a bit impractical for winter.

Antje, I will get to the booties in a moment, but first, I meant to comment in your last thread about how fabulous you look in that dress in #6. Just stunning on you!

As for the booties, I agree with those who say you wear them very well and they seem to fit in with your style. You have terrific legs and these are lovely, slightly edgy, yet still comfortable-looking shoes.

Having said that, I absolutely understand your reservations. I feel similarly for myself. Not having super long legs, I worry about the stump factor of a high vamp, and even if that is not what others see, that is what I see (on myself, I mean). So for me it is very tricky and the hose and bootie must be the same colour or I just won't feel comfortable.

Here, the taupe is absolutely beautiful, but with your delicate ankle and that horizontal line, there is a sense of cut-off. It is slight, it does not make them look bad (to my eye) but it is there.

On the other hand, these bookend your hair beautifully, much better than a true beige probably would. And I think they are an incredibly versatile colour that sort of blends with whatever else you might be wearing; they work with cool tones but also with warms and look very sophisticated.

So...it's a tough call. I would hang onto them and wear them around the house for a few days if you can, to try to puzzle it through. And good luck!

Yeah. I love these shoes. LOVE. You are rocking them to the max in my view.

I am a huge fan of high vamp shoes and the whole low vamp with skirts is one rule I never did and still do not follow, even as a short gal. This look is way less predictable and way more edgy IMHO.

I think they're pretty cool, but if they don't make your heart sing when you put them on, send them back and search for a pair you'd love more. Why settle if you don't have to?

I vote YES. These look fab as you have styled them and you are proving these very versatile. I really like the color, too. I know this brand is quite an investment and you want to make the best choice. I'm in the same boat with mine,

I think these are more the color you are looking for, while I would rather have the color of yours. Can you take some time and keep looking? Or is there a time frame to return them by?

Wow, those are beautiful shoes!! Is that the same style that Angie has in black? I always loved those on her too. I think that they would look good with tights that were a similar tone. I have this on the brain because I just bought some houndstooth tights in this kind of color yesterday. Funny that you bring up the question though because I was thinking to myself just now that even though several people have suggested to me to try this type of shoe with my dresses, something about the look in general does not speak to me. I have a hiccup about high vamps. It is a bit silly of me because it is a rare marriage of practicality and style. Actually, if anything your pics are changing my mind because I like these on you so much.

They are cool shoes but to my eye they would look better with a midi that is very fitted. Greenglove recently had a skirt taken in at the bottom and she modeled it with brogues, which have a high vamp, and it worked beautifully. The shoes are trendy (in a good way), and they just need a trendy skirt silhouette to go with them.

I am among those who looked at the photos and loved the shoes - which read like booties due to the high vamp. But they do feel somewhat more like spring/summer shoes because of their openness and color. Maybe you should try boots in a taupe/beige color instead, if this is to be a fall/winter footwear option?
