I was really excited to receive my package of Express Editor pants because I've heard a lot of good things about them--all of which may be true, but at least in this size, they aren't right for me.

First of all, I think I got hung up on size numbers and should have ordered at least one size larger. In my defense; however, reviews suggested sizing down due to stretch.

Here's the quandry: These pants look BAD on me sized down. If I size up and then they stretch out during wear, I'll have to spend all day tugging them up. I did want to find a more "youthful" cut because my typical wider-leg trousers may be making me look a bit dowdy.

Is is worth it to try sizing up, or should I look elsewhere for pants?

Perhaps the pants in 3&4 aren't so bad?

Pants in 1&2 are more comfortable than those in 5-8, but there is strange biasing around the waistband, which suggests poor construction to me.

5-8 are just awful.

3 & 4 look okay to my eye. Although fitted, not too tight. Also, PPL with those shoes. Nice! : )

1 & 2 seem okay, especially if the pants stretch at all (some of the twill fabrics will stretch a tiny bit). I find those tiny flap pockets on the back hard to wear unless I tuck all my shirts in. My blouse always seems to snag on them or they create lumps under it. I also see what you mean about 5-8. I'd definitely return those.

#1 and #3 don't look that bad at all! I'd like to see a size up though, which might mean waistband alteration.

I don't have luck with the "new" editors. They aren't quite as curve friendly as they used to be (i.e. my old pair is a tight size 6, but still fits-- the new ones I have to size up to a 10 and then take them in several places---- I recommend NY&C for inexpensive blend trousers that come in lengths and are curve friendly).

The old editors didn't bag out, but a snug pair would loosen a bit. Don't know about the new ones.

I think if the first ones stretch a little they will be fine. The second ones look good. The third and fourth I would return.

3-4 look awesome to me (if you can sit comfortably) and 1-2 wouldn't be bad if they stretch a little.

I agree that the fit on 3/4 seems the best. But I can't get over my initial reaction, which is that the back view with the contrasting black buttons and pockets looks like a pair of beady eyes with bushy eyebrows staring at me. Sorry, I can't help it! Feel free to ignore me though!

As a sewist you knooooow it's the pants' construction that is contributing to your woes...but how annoying!

I'm pretty rageful on your behalf if these are all the same size of Editor, BTW. There should NOT be that much variation in fit. /broken record

I like 3/4 on you. From front, 1/2 isn't bad at all. From the rear, 1/2 has all that extra fabric in the leg zone which means you aren't "filling them up" enough, right?

IME if you had less junk in your trunk they'd just be baggier in the seat as well as still baggy in the thigh zone. Can you wear 1/2 to see how/where they stretch, then nip in extra fabric if needed?

I like #1 and #3, with #3 being as close to perfect as off the rack pants can be. I think the last two are a bit tight, but wear them around the house. They will stretch A LOT.

Sveta and I own #1 and Jenava owns #3. I have #5 as well, those fit me about the same way #3 fit on you, after they stretched.

I like 3-4 the best, they seem to fit well.
When I went on my Express spree last month I have ordered 4 styles in 2 sizes each -my regular size and one up. Out of 4 there was only 1 which fit me right in my regular size (Angie's approved :-)) - so yes, they are quite different in fit.

Last month I ordered five pairs of Editors and only two fit. I had the same fit as you on the wide waistbands so returned them. Actually, your #1-2 may fit a smidge better. I guess you may as well wear them around the house to see if they stretch out quickly. The second pair (#3-4) look perfect, and I would size up on the last two pair.

The tags are still on the two Editors I kept, and I haven't worn them around the house to see if they stretch out; I guess it hadn't occurred to me since they are not jeans. Maybe I should, given Zapotee's warning.

Yep, they're all the same size and supposedly the same cut, but they sure do fit differently, don't they? The fabric content is similar for all pairs too.

I returned these, though. I'm just not happy with them and feel nervous about how much they'll stretch.

I've gotten so I try on every pair of my size in the store -- I'm noticing so much difference in fit, even in exactly the same fabric! Of course, this is just part of my machinations to "vanity size," and internet shopping makes this tactic useless! Be brave, Amy! The battle for perfect pants marches on!

I don't know if it is true or not but a sales person once told me black is often a bit smaller than the other colors. They said it was the dye process but that would only make sense if they were died after they were cut and constructed.

I didn't think 1/2 was bad at all. I think the problem you are pointing to is the underwear line. I think the fit of 3/4 is good too but am not sure I am loving the black accents.

I also don't think you are the least bit dowdy. I think I once said you had a wholesome or girl next door look because you have a very youthful look.

OMG, you are such a trooper for trying these all on - I would have given up in a tizzy. I think 3/4 look really good, personally. And yes, you do have a cute booty!
