Theory: size doesn't matter (k/r)

As I have mentioned here and there, after I finally purged some jackets new ones sprang up in their place. This post deals with three Theory jackets that I currently have in my possession. The funny thing is they are three different sizes and all more or less fit me. If anything the biggest size looks the smallest on me imho:

1. Theyseken's Theory jacket size 2 that was the winner from the last round.
2,3. Theory Lanai size 6 that my sister bought on ebay and decided she didn't like.
4,5. Theory Gabe B in size 8. I literally happened upon this in a thrift store.

I am leaning toward selling one or both of the new Theorys but wanted to know what everyone thinks. I also think this is a great illustration of how the size on the label should not be taken too seriously!

Which Theory would you keep? I will hold back my thoughts for now. Thanks for your opinions!

Hmm...I prefer the first and last one, although I cannot put my finger on why. The first seems most dramatic and interesting. It also looks slightly oversized, which is interesting since it is the smallest size. The last one may be more versatile. Not sure why the blue one doesn't speak to me, once I get past the pretty color.

To my eye, the first is more "eccentric" (fashionable) looking and therefore the one I would keep. It will date more than, say, #3 in a few more years but who cares. You'll be on to the next thing by then.

I disagree! I find the first one too long, off balance, somehow. Of the 3 I would keep the blue one.

I like the first and second ones... not sure I could decide between them, as they are so different. The third seems more... "normal".

Love #1, but 2 and 3 also fit and flatter.

First and second for me please ... I love the boyfriend fit of 1 and I love the color of 2. I am not overly fond of 3. Just the style, the fit seems OK! Which is weird!

I like 2-3 and 4-5. The first one I think is long and can work but it is not my favorite.

I am no help because I like all three! They all very different styles and the cobalt one is such a lovely color.
Can you try to wear all three and see if you give a preference to one over the other?

Of the three, I like the proportions of the cobalt on you the most. However, the others might look different if they are styled differently. And I must also say that black is a terrific color for you.

Curious to know which one you plan to keep!

My favorite is no. 1, because of the lower stance and where it hits you on the hip I think it looks the best on you out of the three. I'd pass on the others.

Wow thank you for your opinions - and how interesting that they are so diverse. So here is what I am thinking:

I looked at my own pictures and see the proportions of the long jacket (#1) might be distorted by the extreme slouch of my jeans. Anyway, that is my favorite and I will keep it (I guess I like eccentric!).

The Lanai (#2,3), which I was sure I would love, I am not sure about at all. It is a great color but something about the fit doesn't quite seem right to me - the shoulders seem a bit wide and the middle not wide enough. As Aquamarine put it, something seems off. But I am very interested in all your opinions before I decide.

The Gabe B (original) is such a well made basic jacket but I am not sure I will ever reach for it. Will I ever want it instead of the first one? That is my question - any opinions are welcome!

Thank you for not only helping me decide but helping me see things from other points of view!

Well I don't really have an eye for these jackets, but just wanted to say I am finding that blue VERY striking with your hair, and even if you don't keep that one (I would....), you need more of that colour in your life

Shevia, to my eye no. 1 is the most classic cut, the others are too cropped.

I'm useless. I'd tell you to keep them all!

But definitely keep #1. It's a for sure.

I do think it's sufficiently different from #3 that they might be worn in different situations...but that may be more apparent in real life than in photos.

If the Lanai doesn't feel right, off it goes. No point in hanging onto something just for the sake of it, you know?

You look amazing in al of these, by the way, and I love the way the fading on your jeans echoes your hair. Stunning.

#1 is the most fashionable and my best. But #2 and #3 are 10s too. You look fab in all of these, Shevia. xo

I'm no help! I love them all.
I just saw that you're not crazy about the fit of the Lanai. Of course you should go with how it feels but it actually looks like a great fit to me. I'm not seeing that armpit pooch that many of us (including me) seem to get with that particular style.

I would like to go on and address everyone but my son is waiting for me to chauffeur him. I have read all your comments and appreciate all of them. I hope to make a decision tomorrow so if anyone else wants to chime in please do!

That sizing is crazy! I find you stunning in all of them actually: those sharp, geometric lines are beautiful on you. But if you don't feel good in 2, off it goes! As to whether you should keep 1 & 3, why don't you let 3 live in your closet for awhile and see if you ever reach for it? If you don't after a month or two, you can sell it.

They are all really nice. #1 is my favorite.

I vote to keep #1 and #3 too. They both look great on you and the shapes (the first one more dramatic and maybe avant-garde and the other one more relaxed) seem different enough to justify both. I love the color of the second one, but the bright blue in that very angular, streamlined cut kind of makes me think either Star Trek or '80s power suit somehow. Which may just be my own issues, but it sounds like you don't love the fit of that one anyway.

To my eye all of these work in different ways. I see in the comments you're leaning toward 1 as a keeper. That's my favorite on you. With the lower stance, I'd do either more or less volume in the lower leg. I have this jacket (agree runs large), and like it with flowy wide leg trousers or harem pants, or slim skirt and boots/booties. The cut allows for waist surrendering tops even with wider bottoms. 2 is a great color on you but fit is not as interesting. I've tried the lanai in just about every fabric and agree odd fit in shoulders and that throws off the body. 3 fits well, great proportions on you. I have the Gabe too and it is a well fitting, versatile, functional little blazer. Useful, more than interesting. You do wear black well!

Wow, my opinion is opposite to almost everyone's. I guess my eye isn't up to date, but 1 just looks too big to me (maybe with slim pants? Maybe?). The color of 2 is great but it's a length more for skirts than pants. 3 looks like a workhorse piece if you don't already have a black blazer.

I love #3. I think the proportions are much better than those in #1; #1 seems to cut you in half. But I am big on classic dressing! I'd be interested to see how Grey Rainbow's suggestion about changing the lower leg volume would affect the look of #1.

If you are keeping #1, I don't know that I would keep #3 also--I think they are too similar.

I love the color of #2, but I don't like the fit of it.

I really like all three on you, especially #1. If it were me, I would be keeping them all and not parting with any! If I could only keep 1, it would be the first.

If you must keep only one I vote for #4&5. I love the classic details and think you'll get lots of wear out of it. Bonus that it came from by way of thrift store. I love how you've styled it here with super casual jeans and a relaxed top.

My preference by far is the first one. The sleeve length is perfect and I think the overall cut looks the best on you. The other two are great jackets, too, but don't compare to the first one, IMO, and I doubt you would choose either of them over #1. Fabulous demonstration of the difference in fit between jackets of the same brand with different tag sizes, though.
