There was barely a tight skinny in sight on the catwalks yesterday. Lots and lots of flowing wide trousers and slouchy tapered trouser silhouettes. This is a WATERSHED change in fashion. 10 years down the line.
Remember that:
- It's early days, and we still have 5 weeks of international runway shows to go.
- Changes do not filter down into the retail industry overnight - if at all.
- This does NOT mean that tight sknnies are unfashionable. Not at all.
- Fashion buyers and consumers (so YOU) decide whether a trend will be successful or not. Roomier trousers will at least fringe trend, if not go mainstream over the next few years. Boyfriend jeans and upscale track pants are already 100% mainstream so that should tell us something. The writing is on the wall for many more wider pant widths in our future - with either wide or tapered hem widths.
- There will always be a mainstream market for tight skinnies. They are too practical to disappear.
I cannot stress this point enough. Wear your clothes looser all over if you're after an updated and more modern look. (This excludes the perfectly tight sheath dress though). Err on the slightly looser side of tailored if you prefer lots of structure. Fluid is the magic word.
Okay. I'm heading back to the shows. xo
