The replacements have arrived, Vix I took your advice!

Last week I posted about a sandal quandary and got several helpful comments and suggestions. I ended up returning all three pairs I had purchased because they just weren't fab enough. Vix suggested some styles so I ordered from Zappos. With their lightning fast shipping, they were on my doorstep when I arrived home. I ordered two colours in the same style. What are your thoughts? Better? Are these okay for shorts and casual skirts/dresses? Or do I look like a disciple of Jesus?
Honest feedback appreciated.

I love them both but have a slight preference for #2. They are interesting yet blend more with your skin. Which sandals are these?

These are the Indira Rue sandals. They are comfy but I'm not sure that I love the strap across the top of the foot. I feel like it shortens the visual line of the leg....and since I'm only 5'2" I need to elongate my legs. Well, as much as I can.....:)

The second option would be less shortening because the strap is more or less nude. Are they comfy? They are a cool-looking sandal but for me they would be too flat for comfort.

Hedgie, I had looked at this post a couple of times, but not responded yet because I wasn't sure how I felt about these. I just saw your comment (responding to Ceit), though, and my thoughts came together.

I love both of the sandals in concept. In execution, I want to like them more than I do, and I think what is holding me back is exactly what you said about them not elongating your leg line. They are a very stylish, contemporary sandal, but I think the shape of the strap (straight, without curving taper or a criss-cross) is not as flattering as it should be to be worthy of you. It cuts straight across the widest part of your foot and shortens your leg line. I also think it makes your feet look more solid and less curvy. You have curvy feet and the straps on these don't show their curviness off, if it makes sense. (I know! You have bombshell feet. Who would'a guessed there were bombshell feet out there?!? I wouldn't have, but now I've seen 'em. ) I think there are better sandals still out there for you.

I like the vibe! But they look too narrow for your foot, Hedgie - the sides are over reaching onto the ground and over the soles of the shoes. You might need a wide size, or at least a wider silhouette. Does that make sense?

Mary, I just went back and looked at a bunch of your WIWs and I'm wondering about the sandals. It seems to me like you have such a lovely, feminine, modern classic vibe to most of your outfits, even your casual ones, that these sandals and the first ones you tried don't seem like a natural fit. I also noticed that you wear lots of lovely peep toes that have that same curviness to them that I was thinking about in my earlier post. May I be nosy and ask you some questions?

You said you need these to go with casual outfits over the summer. Do you want them to go mostly with dresses/skirts or pants? Or do they need to go with both equally well?

You want comfy shoes. Do you need them to be a particular height? So far, you've posted flat shoes. Suz mentioned that they'd be too flat to be comfy for her. I'm the same. I generally like a small heel, up to 2", on my shoes and think a small heel is more comfortable than a flat for all day wear. Do you need a flat? A little heel would elongate your leg and might be more comfortable.

Are your feet wide or average? Are there particular lines that you've tried that you always love? I have wider feet. I don't need to buy wide, but I verge on it, so Born shoes are always too narrow for me as are a number of other comfort brands. Danskos often take a little stretch for me, but are very comfortable even though they have a heel because the heel is a clog heel. I was browsing through and saw these, which I thought looked very cute and comfy, but may not be your thing:

Neither of those are cutting edge trendy, but I think they are nice looking and modern enough to not be non-stylish, if that makes sense. Did you want to go for something more trendy?

Hmmmmm, you all have given me a lot to think about. As much as I want to love these, I don't think they're right for me. Suz, yes.....they are too flat. I think I need a little heel. I'm always more comfortable with a little heel. I think I want to live flat sandals but they don't love me back.
K, thanks for the compliment! Not bad for a girl with size 10 hooves. You and Angie are both right......I think the front of the shoe is too far forward on my foot so it looks funny. And yes, I do prefer more polished looks, even in casual wear. I have regular or "medium" sized feet but they are on the large size and the shoes have to be comfy. I would like something I can wear with casual dresses/skirts and shorts.
Thank you so much for the suggestions and or taking the time to search for them. I will take a look at them. The YLF sisterhood is wonderful.

It is funny, but you have to think of your feet just like the rest of your body, which I hadn't thought of before! You definitely have company (me!) with the "band crossing the wrong part of your foot" issue. I bought these lovely Born sandals, all excited about them, only to try them on and find that the strap was too narrow and they cut across exactly the wrong part of my foot. And were too narrow in width to boot. They just made my feet look logs. Clunky logs. Sadness.

Aw, too bad about the style not working out, but I echo the advice above. You can join me on the bench with Cinderella's stepsisters, sniffling over shoes that are wrong for our feet!

[Insert an I heart Zappos statement here]

It's easier to suggest a few more since you and I actually have similar foot shape/leg/height combos and I am generally in 2" heels.

In addition to the tried and true low-contrast-to-skin color suggestions, the shoes in my closet generally have one of the below factors:

-- Diagonal straps vs straight-across ones (my #1 tip!)

-- A very low vamp that forms a V on the foot

-- Classic flip flop thong styles, though wider vs narrower straps are better

-- A thong style where the leather V covers a fair amount of real estate on the foot

-- Somewhat counter-intuitively, a shoe that wraps around the ankle *if* the straps form a V vs just being a typical ankle strap

This round of suggestions all come in W, though you may not be a wide. I'm on the border in a lot of shoes (and Clarks is generally a brand where I take a M). Let us know what appeals so folks can jump in with more ideas!

ps The last one isn't *that* far off from one of the Bass choices, but I feel like the metallic + two-tone makes it a bit more interesting. Then again I do have "Minimalist Magpie" as one of my style descriptors so shiny generally = +100 bonus points in my book.
