This one, a skirt from Free People I bought through Nordie's, is a complete style departure for me. I have this mild obsession with roses. (That's why I'm the romantic punk.) I am totally lukewarm about real roses, but stylized roses just get me somehow. I really like this skirt. But: am I too 1) old 2) short and not slim 3) etc etc to pull this off?

Again, I was rushed so not styling so great. The last pic has me attempting to minimize the fabric volume, as in would this look better in a slimmer pencil type of silhouette. Though I'm not sure I would bother investing in that.

Anyway, it's a fun skirt.

#2 looks pretty flirty and fun. It is a fun skirt and I like it with the tights and boots.

I have to be honest... I don't care for it. I like it best in picture #1 because you get just the hint of lace grounded by the structured coat.
BUT, it's not about me.... How do you feel in this? What is the image you would like to portray with this skirt?

I am with Queen Mum - I personally don't "feel" it but perhaps there is something here that speaks to you and your style.

On a different note, just wanted to say that you look great in that coat. I don't remember if it is new but it looks really nice in terms of fit and color.

I'm surprising myself by kinda liking this one! I LOVE the vibe for you. Like QM says, the first picture with it just peeking out of the coat is the best, I think. Theoretically you are supposed to be good with adding volume to the bottom half, right (below the midsection) for your body type? I definitely like it with your top tucked in. Is that a black belt, or does the skirt have a black waistband? These types of skirts can be very juvenile, but this one seems sophisticated to me, due in part to the fact that it's not too short. I'm feeling some steampunk action here!

I really like it on you you! I like how you've styled it with dark colors to keep it from being too flirty. How will you wear it in the spring/fall?

I like it with the shorter jacket, myself. Perhaps because it is more punk-y? And with the lighter colored top, tucked in.

I don't believe in "too young/old", with the exception of skanky club dresses, so I say that if you like it, wear it!

I'm with Mander on this and have been meaning to get back to your other thread on mixing soft romantic with punk. I see that here and could see you mixing it up with a cute leather jacket or some strong boots. It's a pretty skirt and I also like it with the coat in #1.

Mochi, I love this beautiful, arty, romantic and unique skirt. It is so pretty, I could imagine wearing it for holiday gatherings with a velvet jacket, out for a special dinner at a fancy place, or for the thrill of just wearing it at home when I felt like dressing up for the sheer pleasure and joy of seeing it on.

For me, this would be a closet pet. Something I kept just because I love it and it makes me feel great. I don't know how practical a purchase it will be for you, but sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants and we need to treat our self to something really special -- like this skirt. I vote keep.

I really love it for you! To be totally frank, it has the most personality of anything you've ever posted. This is a "hey look at me and my fabness" kind of skirt! I like it with the structured jacket a lot, and I can see it with a denim jacket. With the RATE boots too, it's great.

I really like this with your jackets, Mochi! Without the jackets, and with the tee hiding the black waistband, I think it's too sweet and cutesy. But with jackets and boots to toughen it up, I think it's a fun way to start off your Romantic Punk journey.

I really like the skirt with the jackets because they add a level of structure and sophistication to the item. (pssssst! The sleeve length of your jackets need a little altering).

The tee does not work with the skirt and I also would prefer to see softer hosiery. But the rugged boots are fabulous with the skirt! Denim jacket would look great too.

Thank you, everyone! I got opinions all across the board on this one, eh? All are being carefully considered. I think I will hold onto this one because somehow it does have this sentimental and emotional feeling going on with it, it didn't cost that much, and I think I can have a lot of fun with it styling it different ways, thanks to helpful suggestions here. This is one thing I agree that it will be fun to simply have in my closet, though of course I will want to wear it on some special occasions.

Claire, that black is the elastic waistband.

Melllls, I'm 48 I honestly don't get paranoid about age and appropriateness (that's the punk part of me--not caring), but this is a girly skirt so I was wondering.

First of all, I love that purple jacket/coat on you! Wear that a lot! I like the skirt too with the jackets, not as much with the t, or at least the t and boots. Maybe it just looks unbalanced to me (winter boots, summer t). I totally get your attraction to that skirt.

The exuberant flowers and controlled, pencil skirt aspect seemed to be in direct contradiction with each other. I really preferred the flounciness of the other skirt for that reason.

I almost missed this thread, but I'm so glad I saw it so I could say I really really hope you keep that skirt! And I love the way you're wearing it in #2. The short jacket allows the fun flowers to show and the tucked blouse looks better than the tee. I think the jacket and boots keep it from looking too young.

And I share your sentiment regarding stylized flowers. I'm rather meh about real flowers with the exception of gardenias, but I find that I'm specially drawn to clothing and jewelry that features roses.

I love the vibe of the skirt for you, but I think for your body type a pencil skirt would be the way to go...I'm going to vote that you return but that you keep on the lookout for an equally whimsical skirt in a pencil shape.

I actually really like the skirt on you. I think with a longer jacket like in 1 with the light colored top tucked in and the black band at your waist is really cute, or I like 2 a lot as well but feel the jacket should be shorter. I don't think I would wear it like in 3. Even though the skirt is flirty and young when you pair it with a great jacket I think it totally works. I think the texture somehow goes with your hair too, which is odd because I have never thought about that kind of thing before.
