The one month hair evolution - YouLookFab Forum

It has now been one month since I posted my new haircut, and as promised, I'm back to show how the color grew out. The first pic is the day after the cut and bleaching. The following photo starts one week later and a photo for each week after that - ending with a shot after I got ready this morning, I had the color and cut done again this evening. All in all I have actually loved the growing out process of the color. I liked that more of the roots were visible as time progressed - my previous cut didn't showcase that as much. And as much as I enjoyed the new dimensions from the roots, I loved going back to white tonight. It's kind of fun because I don't have a chance to get tired of any particular phase. I'm interested in your thoughts - do you think the grow out process makes this cut acceptable and do you have a favorite phase - 0,1,2,3 or 4? I am likely to be swayed by popular opinion so I had better set my answer in stone before everyone else weighs in : my fav is 0 - freshly white. It may be the most bland and low contrast, but I can't help myself. It is white and new and fresh, and it and makes me feel light as air.

ETA: All photos except the last are freshly washed and styled hair. This morning's photo was with dirty hair because the bleaching works better that way, but that may skew the comparison....

Sarah I love #0, freshly cut and blonded, BUT the growing out phase at each stage looks intentional. I think this is a fab cut for you.

I like 0 best, but you would look lovely even if your hair were pea green.

Thank you Deborah and Joy! Joy, you made me laugh and feel so pleased all at the same time! It is a surprise to me to hear the first two votes for 0. Most feedback IRL is favorable to the darker roots. Also, I should have added the disclaimer that today's photo was dirty hair, while the others were clean. I can't wash it day of bleaching or else it doesn't do as well...

I have to say that 4 is my favourite - but that's because that's how I wear my own hair. I tried the all-bleached look once or twice but it wasn't great on me. Roots give depth and contrast, which is what I need and prefer, but on you, both looks work. Actually, now that I think about it, your eyeliner and darker eye makeup provides the depth and contrast against your fair skin that I get from my roots. I absolutely understand what you mean about it feeling fresh and light . I think you've hit upon a great style, and if you get that much time out of a colouring, you're in business !

Lisa, I love your observations! Maybe the makeup is why I like and feel comfortable with no roots. I didn't plan it that way, but I'm glad it works.

I like 1 and 4, for different reasons, but I agree with Joy that you look great no matter what your hair colour is!

Hmm, I think that my favorite is 4, by a smidgen. I like how the roots seem to give depth and texture. And it also seems to tie your hair together with your makeup. But all of them look good.

I've always liked your 'white' Sarah look, but don't recall seeing high contrast visible roots before. Look 4 works equally well with your style, so you should feel fab either way.

If pressed, I would say I favour #1 by a smidge.

Love all the stages, but nr 4 is really my all times target-so hard to achieve intentionally! As Lisa said, all bleached out does nothing for me, as have not only fine, but sparse and very thin hair, too. It has to have some dark on the roots for looking decent meanwhile the bleached out edges add some shine.

I love them all - but No 1 looks most special to me because many people just cannot wear their hair so light and yet it looks fantastic on you.

You look lovely in all the photos but my fav is #4. I have a preference for the edgy look.
How lucky are you? You can evolve your hair in a matter of weeks.

Sarah - you hair cut is wonderful and flattering. The color looks great at all stages but my favorite is the dark roots. Echoing Style Fan, lucky girl to look so great in different cuts and different stages of color!!

I like #4 the best. Would it be worth trying some of the powder they make for *covering roots to try to give yourself some of that contrast at the beginning of the bleach/growth cycle?

It really does look great in all stages. I have a slight preference for the depth that a little growout at the roots provides, but you're lucky that it works so well in all of these!

Sigh, my growout is nowhere near so appealing. I've got a good inch or so of greys coming in at the roots, and it seems like I was just at the salon -- my hair grows so fast! Time for another appointment…

I not only love them all but love the pictures showing the process. Such patience and commitment to the experiment! I am far too impetuous for such a task. I just love seeing this. I am instinctively drawn to #4, because I love collision of textures, colors, styles -- and the depth and interest that this brings. But you also provide that with your makeup and the drama of the all-white hair, and so ultimately, 0 and 4 have similar amounts -- though opposite kinds -- of drama for me. It's all so beautiful and intriguing.

Your hair looks fantastic at all stages so it seems the perfect cut for you. I love stage four with the roots. I'm still on the hunt for perfect cut and colour so good for you to get this sorted!

Thank you for documenting this - super idea. Add me to the group that thinks it looks really good at every stage, but I'm most drawn to #4. Maybe I like your hair just a tad grown in, as much as the depth of the roots. This is all great news, right? You can't go wrong with this style!

Interesting experiment. I'm surprised that I like all the versions - I thought I would like the freshly bleached look best.

I think the grow out process DOES make this cut acceptable. I don't have a favourite. They're all good. The amount of growout in 4 seems completely fine to me. ...I see that others think this is even desirable, so there ya go! (I don't dye my hair, so I guess my opinion is a little less informed.)

Well, I love all iterations, but fully understand your preference for #1 and I agree with others about your eye make up adding the contrast.

Thank you all for the great feedback. It is really neat to hear the thoughts and reasoning behind what you like! I am not surprised that many like the dark roots. I was expecting that, and it agrees with the in person feedback that I get. I do like that I get a short time with that look - it's a fun change. I was also pleased to hear the love for the all white look. I'm LOVING Columbine's "modern fairy" description! My all time favorite complements have to do with fairy/elf/tree sprite references. I'm pretty sure that in al alternate universe I live in a hollow log adorned with twinkle lights and a welcome mat made of moss...
