Shoot, this would be fun! But we are going to be out of town for a wedding and traveling is impossible without black, and the dress I'm wearing that is from the YLF store is black (ish)! I might just try it for fun when we get back, no black!

I just found out that we will be out of town part of the week, so I don't know if I am up for the challenge.

Angie, I just want to verify that YOU are participating in this challenge as well, right? No fair calling forth a challenge if you are not playing too.

Couldn't do it. My eyeglasses are pearl and black.

AJ, I'm not participating in this challenge. I might be missing something but I don't actually think that's unfair. Everyone has a choice not to participate :0)

Carole and Khris, there is no time frame. You can participate the week after you get back if the challenge is still of interest to you.

Joy!!! What a great point. All my specs have black in them, or are black. But people will need to wear their sunglasses - so I guess that's the next exception.

If specs are an exception, my next question is about prints with black on a different colored background, like black polkadots on white or a large stylized floral design of black lines on nude, for examples. Would they be allowed?

Yup. Prints with a bit of black are allowed - but extra applause for prints sans black.

Oh boo, Angie! I was hoping this would be an opportunity to see a week's worth of your outfits! : (

Hmmm...yes, we all have a choice to participate, but the person starting the challenge should show solidarity to the cause and join in. That's like a boss telling his co-workers they should work overtime over the weekend but the boss doesn't show up.

I love black, but I could (and will) totally do it.

I will be traveling a lot for the next 2 weeks (will only be home for 2 days); so my challenge will be fulfilled on the week that starts with Monday June 7th.

I think that I could do it, it sounds like a fun, fun challenge. I just ordered a boatload of non-black shoes from endless.com... can I wait to start until those come in?!?

I'm going to say yes without even thinking about it.

Yikes.

No for me. I like a touch of black in my outfits now more than I ever did.

Oh yay I'm excited! I black-rut so this will be really good for me since I really do have plenty of colored items in my wardrobe.

I need a challenge and I think that I could do this - as long as it doesn't rain as my trench is black...can I get a weather exception?

No way! I'm after falling back in love with black again!

Hmm, if you had asked me a year or six months ago, I could have done it with my eyes closed. But I've been adding more black to my closet again, and in fact, all of my pants and skirts (hahaha, I only own TWO of each these days) are black...as are my favorite leggings. So at this point I have to bow out of this challenge, but I'm looking forward to seeing how others do with it!

Yes, Fi. You can have a weather exception. I'd hate for you to catch a cold.

AJ, I'm sorry you feel that way. If there is anyone that shows solidarity on this forum - it's me. For professional reasons, my outfits do not go onto the forum part of YLF. They become blog posts. I am slammed with work (actually working with clients the whole weekend) and it takes a lot of time to prep my own outfit posts - time that I do not have at the moment. I hope that makes sense.

We can scrap the challenge if you like. The challenges are about having fun and nothing else. I'll leave it to the forum to decide. Let me know how you want to proceed.

Angie- Your reasoning makes sense, and I for one vote to move forward with this challenge. It will be fun!

Let's keep the challenge, of course. Those who wish to participate can, and those who don't...don't.
I remember you sharing your reasons about not posting outfits in the forums Angie, and I for one really admire and respect that.
I appreciate this challenge because I am one who relies too heavily on black. Not everybody does, so this may not be appropriate for everyone (Angie included) anyway.

I say we go ahead with the challenge then people can join or just watch if they want x

Angie already admitted she couldn't do this challenge without feeling less-than-fab, so I think that is fair. I think the assumption is that you will be able to put together GOOD outfits...not just sub-par ones for the sake of meeting the challenge. After all, you still have your real life to attend to and who wants to leave the house looking like a sad sack in a crummy outfit? I'm sure I could do this challenge if I was willing to look less than my best, but I'm not.

Anyway, Angie is our teacher and guru and it's her job to challenge us and encourage us to try new things!

As for myself, I love black but a lot of times I go for black because it is the only color available or it is the best of all possibilities. If I see a fab dress that comes in black, khaki, and olive...I will go for the black. I do not wear khaki or olive and they look absolutely dreadful on my complexion, and I'm not going to pass up a fabulous dress that looks good on me just because I'm afraid of black rutting. How silly. If, however, that same dress comes in black, cherry red, and orange...I will choose cherry red (only because I haven't found a good shade of orange for me yet).

This is really interesting! I am not sure I have very much black at all... I think I have one pair of pants (which I would never post anyway as they are too short! - waiting to be lengthened/replaced) and one black cardigan that I've hardly worn since picking up some of the H&M ones that Angie recommended a couple of months ago... And a couple of tops.

My dark neutral-of-choice is navy blue and I don't think I could survive a week without that!

But I'll avoid black this week to join in...

ETA I would ADORE to see Angie in a week of outfits (with or without black...) but regretfully can see that it just wouldn't work for this occasion...

I wouldn't be able to do it, because the only non-black shoes I have are my workout shoes! Well, I have my brown boots. I wonder if I could manage a whole week wearing only boots?

Oh , a very fun challenge but I do not have the energy to go without black. I am not in a black rut but use it quite a bit with other neutrals as a grounding color and one that adds drama to an outfit. An artist without black would hardly be an artist! (only kidding here).
I agree with Maya that I would want to put together great outfits that I would have fun wearing and to do that is just to hard for me without having black as an option. I could do it for a couple of days but not a whole week!

Perhaps those not going for the whole week could just do one day? x

Oh I vote to continue the challenge. I was looking forward to stretching my style and my clothing. I think it's fine if Angie isn't participating. I'm already spoiled by the great pictures in the blog posts and if there isn't time, hey, sometimes you have to choose. After all, she's still doing blog posts everyday plus other non YLF work as well I'm sure.

Absolutely move forward. I am so looking forward to the inspirational creative women here!!!

In honor of Angie's poetic mood:

Aaack!
You're giving me a heart attack!
I know I'm going to get some flak
But I just can't promise to not wear black.

Sorry!

I've been away for a few days, but I'm in! I think this should be relatively straightforward for me...
