The new summer shoes and my perfect summer dress

I finally got the shoes that I mentioned I while ago and they are perfect! Closed (so good to wear to work) but airy and really comfortable. They fit my wide feet and are comfortable to wear without hose because they're lined with leather and really soft. Love them!

The first picture is an outfit I plan to wear to a wedding in four weeks time (dresscode says "come dressed however you feel comfortable"). I love this summer dress so much that I've ordered a second one for backup when it went on discount. I had planned to wear it with my new handbag and my old trusty denim jacket for the wedding. I had wondered about wearing a blazer with it instead, but the one I have is black and I love how summer like the combination with the denim jacket looks. What do you think?

Hey Astrid. These are so beautiful and right up my alley. I love the the color and the design is very beautiful. When you say large feet how large? I wear a size 12 and am looking for shoes. Very nice outfit for the wedding I love how they say Come As You Are feel comfortable. I have a wedding in 4 weeks that I'm stressing about because I was told White only no off-white no eggshell white no cream no color. And I'm all about color and I hate trying to look for white I absolutely dread it.

Thanks Ledonna! That sounds super stressful, I'm sorry. The wedding I'm invited to is the wedding of my best and oldest friend's mum. She's marrying for the second time and said she had the wedding her family expected her to have 25 years ago and now she just wants a great party where everyone has fun (the wedding couple included). I love that.

Lovely shoes and great glasses!I personally think denim is a bit casual for a wedding so would try the dress with another topper but ,hey,you know the bride and her wishes better than I do .Hope you have a great time.

It sounds like you can totally get away with denim at this wedding. It looks great! Ledonna, I am so totally in your camp, I would probably subvert by using colorful shoes, a colorful shawl, a colorful bag, colorful earrings...

What pretty shoes! I like the fact that they are closed but airy. I like your outfit very much. A denim jacket would be casual for a wedding in general, but in this case I think it works! It's also nice paired with the pale blue bag.

Sooooo beautiful in so many ways! The shoes are so you, so adorable too, and look to me as the perfect summer footwear workhorse. The print is also very appealing. I wish we could see all of it! The hair, the radiant smile, everything screams summer happiness.

About the wedding: in another life, another time, another place, I got married once. No huge thing, a friendly reception among close relatives and friends, a little ceremony in a chic hotel lobby, no church, no white dress... a couple, two good friends, showed up dressed very casually. I mean, denim casually. Yes, we had said not to come too formal, because we didn't want people to break their budgets over new outfits and we knew it wasn't going to be a prom chic event. But denim! You know what? Even my then husband noticed that and felt a bit let down in his heart, that his friend wouldn't really even give the time of day to choose something just a bit more formal than denim. So I don't know your own situation with your own friends, but my suggestion is to stay away from wearing denim for this special, unique occasion between two people you love. The topper and the clutch will make all the difference in the world, and better be slightly over dressed for the occasion than remain underdressed and under-honoring in your friend's memories (and informal wedding pics!). You don't want to be remember as "that friend". I would suggest a cream color shawl or very chic cardigan, and a unique clutch that says "I made an effort into this" even if the rest of your person remains comfortable in an easygoing dress and flat high-vamp shoes.

Ledonna, if I was handed such strict requirement for a wedding I would seriously reconsider even accepting the invitation! I'm so sorry for you that you would be presented with this choice. Your anxiety response is totally founded. I wonder if other members or Angie will be able to better counsel you for this. I feel for you.

Hmm, I kinda feel like Krishnidoux has converted me! I have been to plenty of weddings and seen plenty of denim. Some very good looking denim worn with panache, but also sad, saggy, not-even-trying denim. The wording on this invitation seems to project that either kind would be welcome. On the one hand, you'd hate avoid the denim even though you really want to wear it, get there, and see all sorts of sharp-looking denim jackets, and think, "Damn, I coulda worn mine." On the other, it also wouldn't hurt to have this look in the bag for going out to dinner, and jazz it up a tad more with a fancier topper. Sorry, I realize I'm sitting on the fence and I'll shut up now.

Addendum: I guess it's worth thinking about whether you'll actually spend a good portion of the evening with the topper *off* in which case it will function like a jacket or if it will be an integral part of your look all night.

Astrid, you look beautiful in this outfit. I love the denim jacket and you look dressed for a really fun party - which is what this very special wedding will be.

I really admire the bride in allowing her guests to wear whatever they want. I am also glad that you are getting another dress in that style, because it is absolutely lovely. Your new shoes are the bomb too!

Love the shoes, purse and dress ( good for you snatching a duplicate on sale- great insurance for a much loved item- I have been known to do that also).
I love the denim jacket with the dress and would say fine if it was a “country wedding “ or work or weekend.
But I agree with KRISH- shawl or sweater might be a little dressier. If you are attending by car you can bring jacket along and bring it out if dress code is casual.
But that’s me- if being put in position- I would always prefer over than underdressed

Thanks everyone for the compliments and your input on the denim jacket! I do think it would be completely fine to wear it - first off we Europeans seem to treat weddings differently to Americans anyway (no bridesmaids, no color coordinated dressing or anything like that, at least for most people). And the location is fairly rustic (a castle on a hill), so my friend told me to wear sensible shoes. Which I would do in any case. I guess it might not bee too warm inside, so I would probably keep the jacket on most of the time - so it might be worth considering something more dressy all the same. But I don't want to spend lots of money on it. I think I'm going to keep my eyes open and see if I find an alternative in time, otherwise I'll wear the denim jacket.

I think your outfit looks perfect for the event, especially when the invitation says come however you feel comfortable. I wore a summer dress, sandals and denim jacket to a wedding a couple years ago. I ended up not needing the jacket because it was so hot, but the outfit was the right balance between dressy and casual. There were women in silk dresses, and men in blue jeans. The venue was grassy, so my flat sandals were perfect too.

This wedding sounds perfect to me. I think this dress and shoes are perfect for such invitation. However I agree with Krishnidoux that denim jacket may be too casual and you may want to try something dressier for the topper but don't stress out if you cannot find anything else.

I think denim is fine for a wedding, but I have a very casual cohort that doesn't take weddings very seriously. Those who've gotten married have mostly done so in very rural locations -- farms, campgrounds, mountaintops, etc. So no one would look out of place in denim. I'm pretty sure my husband wore jeans when we got married, but I honestly don't remember -- we didn't bother with a ceremony, just signed the papers and got on with life.

Also, that bag is a really beautiful colour -- I'd love to find one in that sage-y sort of turquoise.

CUTE shoes! I like the wedding outfit though do have some reservations about the denim as others have mentioned. I think your plan of picking something else up if it comes along but otherwise sticking with this sounds perfect

Lovely dress and shoes! Great specs! My 2 cents: I would bring the denim jacket and wear a little dressier cardigan or shawl. You can always switch out when you get there if you want to.

Since you are wearing the denim jacket with with a dress and (comfortable) heels, I think the denim jacket is fine. But agree with Rachy that a brooch would dress it up nicely!

Thanks Denise - I could actually borrow a fancy brooch from my mum, she has a hummingbird with enamel and glitz that would probably work well with the look. I think I'll try that!
