I need a high rise too, Tarzy--9" is great for me! It's actually mostly due to the rear view. Even the new mid-rise jeans that are cut higher in the back are, ahem, risque on me when I inevitably bend down to put on a shoe or pick up a kid. There's cleavage and then there's.... cleavage. Nothing proves the incredible diversity of the human figure like shopping for jeans. When you add in personal taste and style goals, I think it's a miracle anyone finds jeans, ever! Thank goodness there are so many more cuts and fits to choose from now than there were even 5 years ago.

I'm following this closely, Angie. Many years ago, I wore nothing but non-stretchy jeans in a thicker denim fabric. The last pair I had was from Lucky Brand. And then, they seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. I've never preferred stretch in my denim, but after a while, I just had to cave in and buy them because it's all I could find.

A few of my jeans are lower rise, and I find that I prefer them to my mid-rise. In fact, I think I have those AG stilts in blue denim. Are these the same? If so, I love them, and I think I would enjoy them in white also. Looking forward to the next update!

Mo- I am 5'4" and 8 inches is my absolute minimum. If I go much lower than that they hit BELOW the hip bone (or at minimum, on it) which makes them brutally uncomfortable.

I always assumed I had a long rise. But in doing Imogene's proportions exercise, I learned that I have a more or less normal rise; I am just short-waisted...so the effect it of a longer torso/ long rise.

I do not like the super high rise jeans except for specific tasks. They stay tucked into knee high boots better if you are wearing them that way. The hip hugging jeans fall down (on me - a complaint I've also heard from Denise.)

Late to this thread but following avidly! I like low rises also! My grey skinnies are 8" from crotch seam to waistband but I wear them slouched down on my hips so the functional rise is more like 7".

I never realized that before -- I just measured some of the jeans I don't care for as much and they are all 8-9" rise. Now I know what to look for!

Maybe I'm not fussy enough or specific enough. Or just easy. I've *never* had a search as hard as this one for jeans!

Dana, I think you have a really great body for jeans. Not that Angie does not, but she IS looking for something highly specific here, and something that's not currently popular. In your case, you have lots of different kinds of jeans and they all seem to look great on you! You're a lucky jeans lady!

You ALL make sense.

Suz, eyeballing it, I would have said you have a long rise - which makes an 8 inch rise length low rise on your petite height! You also do not look short-waisted. You look long in the torso. How does that work? And as you often do, you hit the nail on the head with why my search is involved. If I wanted a pair of great fitting soft jeans with stretch and an 8 inch rise - I could purchase one in my sleep without even trying them on. They are THAT popular and everywhere in all sorts of fits, washes and lengths. My very specific jeans requirement is not at all fashionable or desirable at the moment - hence it's a rare breed.

Mo, I'm taller and prefer a lower rise because we all like different things! An 8 inch rise is mid rise on me (I have a few pairs) - and I don't find it as comfortable. And our bodies are all shaped a little differently even when we wear a similar size.

Ariadne and Tara, actually, you are in line with 90% of my clients. Most want an 8 to 9.5 inch front rise, in soft stretchy denim. It's me who swims against the tide in the minority.

And on that note, high five Aida and Jaime, who also like a lowish rise.

Awww, Suz, big MWAH from Texas here!

The search continues! I'll be interested to see what you find, Angie.

I can do a low rise, but it has to be so perfectly perfect. I've got a few (older) Levi's in my closet that are low rise. Plus I've come to like a mid rise in colder temps....keeps the belly warmer!

This is so interesting.

I have taken to toting a measuring tape with me when shopping for jeans but only measured the bck rise because I noticed the pairs in my closet were all the same. I am away from home right now but my jeans are probably 71/2" to 8" in front.

Re the denim issue: I know what you mean. I have a pair of ancient Cavalli's from a long ago hunt for perfect boot cut. Best denim I have ever seen. They were $$$ though and it's weird because Cavalli is usually not my style.

Good heavens, Angie, reading your post made me want to curl up in the fetal position OR get a glass of wine and turn on Downton Abbey. All of my shopping angst and dread surfaced big time reading it. Anyway, I've been doing some jeans hunting, too, but don't have your stamina. I can't believe that the GAP jeans I tried on were TOO SHORT, even for me, at 5'1"! Anyway, I settled for some JCrew Matchsticks, but am still on the hunt for a very light wash, slightly slouch pair (not as slouchy as my BF's, which are just Matchsticks sized up) and a white pair to replace some that are too high in the rise. Did you end up sizing up in the AG's like I know that you sometimes do in white jeans? Or did you get your usual size?

Thanks.

Angie, I just saw these

You might have to order, I don't see a lot of denim at our local store.

Anna, not Angie, but I love those jeans!

Oh my word Angie - you are one determined chic chick... I would have settled for something else ages ago! I hope you find your ideal pair soon!

Thanks, Anna! I'll give them a bash.

Sarah, I ordered a size up in the white AG Stilts - to your point. I almost went up another size because I thought I wanted them baggier. But I stuck to a neat tailored fit. They look good fitted so I'm not messing with something that isn't broken.

Thanks, Doula

Angie, did you ever check out the Imgoene + Willie website I linked to on your previous post about this? I'm still so enamored by the idea of custom jeans and I know their material is just what you are looking for.

Your persistence (without getting frustrated) is so inspiring. It really does pay to wait until you find exactly what you want. No matter how long it takes. And it's nice to see I'm not the only one who has trouble fitting into clothes sometimes. When you spend all day and nothing works out it's hard not to feel like the problem is oneself sometimes.

Angie, you're such an inspiration --- so nice of you to share this hunt on the forum for those of us still trying to get a handle on PPP. You're a saint!

Unfortunately, am no help with the hunt --- it's not that hard to find the thicker, non-stretch fabric in India, as long as premium tailoring is not required. All one has to do is pop into one of the supermarket or departmental store own brands, or in some cities, like Delhi, get some made to order from a local tailor. I've never had luck with either of those since I'm not an easy fit and don't have a 'just-so' sample I could bring to the tailors either.

I do sympathise with your hunt though, since I often find I'm also chasing something a little elusive since the 90s --- I want soft, thick, minimally stretchy, mid-rise (that becomes low in front but stays higher up in back on me), straight or skinny legs (but not too tapered) that still fit, dark jeans with just a slight fading on the thigh, and back pockets. That's the ideal, and I haven't found it yet. The closest I got were my Benetton bootcuts in the early Noughties, but they don't have back pockets though the back darts helped with fit immensely. Bizarrely, my Mothercare maternity jeans actually have the right fabric, even though not the colour or shape I'd consider optimal!
