Angie, I have them in my hands as I write. I just measured them and the rise is 7" on the nose. The style is called "Lindy" -- there's an iron-on tag on the inside waistband that says so -- and beneath that, it says "Low-rise, Skinny". They are marked W25/L32 (obviously I've had them hemmed!) and the fabric label says 60% cotton/40% polyester. Which explains the no stretch.

ETA I like the "Lindy" style and have three pairs. The other two pairs do have a bit of stretch in them, and are softer, but equally low-rise.

I'm happy that you can find jeans that are higher rise too, Tina! The problem with low rise the last time it flooded the market was that tops were also short AND back rises were not cut curved and higher. This time they have that part sorted - IF ONLY THEY WOULD STOCK THEM IN HARD FABRIC. Yup. I have Dsquared2 on their way to me so thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks, Elisabeth! You are sweet. I'll see if I can find some Mavi Lindys to try too

Ah, I see. I never look for pants in stores because most places do not carry tall sizes so I seldom have an idea as far as store inventories is concerned. I can only buy online for the most part. I think something around 7-8 inches is good for rise(but I'm tall) but I actually don't know the exact measurement, I just eyeball them.

Go measure your rises Zap and report back if you don't mind.

I think we are all thankful that they are now cutting the jeans higher the the back. That was a veritable disaster the last go round! I really do think we are going to see some more variety soon.

So glad you have the Dsquareds coming. It is a very fun label, twoCanadian guys, though they are out of Milan I think. But the brand has a fairly strong following in Canada.

I like Dsquared2 stuff, Tina! They are identical twins I think. I always watch their runway shows. I hear you on the veritable low rise disaster the last time round. What were the retailers thinking????

Ok, my 7FAM's are all about 8 inches, in a size 28. This is their regular Roxanne cut.

the AE's are about the same, 8 inches, but these are all tall sizes. I am not sure on regular sizing.

Oh Angie, I realized that sad but true fact you pointed out in the firs thread -- that jeans have gone to hell! (thin and stretchy and not worth the money most of the time). I realized this in 2006 when I got rid of all of my old jeans I'd been harboring since college. The jeans I'd picked up in the mean time were thin and stretchy but I hadn't bought too many pairs and I thought it was a trend. Lo and behold it was not! I found out the hard way that jeans had stayed the same price or higher and were made with cheapest material.

I have had some success with Eddie Bauer jeans but they still had more stretch than I was used to. Levis same problems you pointed out stiffer material but the rise is high (I will say when I bought my newest pair last week I was glad to be back in the realm of "normal" jeans). The only jeans that I have that are truly no stretch is a pair of Gap boyfriend jeans I bought in 2007 and the rise is too high on them. I wish you luck and can't wait to see if you find the elusive no stretch low-rise jean (because I need them for my high waist ;-).

Thanks for this, Angie. Wow, I am astounded. With your perfect body for fashion, I would have imagined it was easy for you to find _any_ type of jeans you'd fancy. This is an eye-opener.

i don't have time to respond to your original post, but wanted to chime in now. i replaced a pair of jeans at christmas time, and was thinking the same thing, what happened to jeans that were actually denim. unfortunately, at the time i had a need that needed to be filled immediately. but i'm still looking for a pair of denim jeans.
you mentioned that you had tried the gap, i found this style on line, and was wondering if you had tried these, and if you had, what you thought.

KK, I haven't tried those jeans because I bat for Team Faded Denim. I also don't want another pair of BF jeans. Thanks for linking to them though

Krish, my big problem is fabric (Day Vies highlights it well). And I happen to prefer lower rises wish aren't popular any more. So in both cases I am trying to find a rare breed of jeans, which is like looking for a needle in a haystack. If I wanted a pair of soft, comfy jeans with a mid rise - I'd have many to choose from.

Thanks, Zap. I'm not sure either. Most jeans rises are between 8 and 9 inches these days despite the size or length.

Good luck and I admire your patience!

This has been such an interested thread to read, even though my denim requirements are sooo different than yours! I need a super high rise and honestly, that's hard to find too. Especially in a non-frumpy style, in my size, and with a long inseam. It's a lot to ask for. I don't mind stretchy denim, though. It's more forgiving on me.

I have a feeling that the Diesels you ordered will work. Can't wait for the next update!

Angie, you are incredibly diligent! I admire your perseverance. Have you considered having a pair custom made to your specs?

Angie, thank you so much for this!

I have a question. Do you prefer a low rise always, or especially with the slightly slouchy fit jeans?

I am so curious about what you'll end up with!

The new white jeans look terrific!

A note to Aida, if you come back to the thread -- you did remember correctly. My Diana Kuts bag out a lot on me. I don't mind it, really...they have become a slightly slouchy fit and that works for white jeans just fine in my books! But it amazes me that we're the only ones this has happened to. I wonder how that works? And, as I've reported, many others have trouble with their Long and Leans bagging out, whereas mine don't do that!

Mariana, finding jeans with high rises and long inseams that are NOT NYDJs is tough! I have a few tall clients in your position. Thank heavens they wear flats too.

I need to get to the Diesel store downtown. I'm shopping with a client this morning so perhaps after that?

Amy, I'm not all that fond of tailor made items actually. Too often, I have been disappointed. I'd rather be patient and go this route.

Suz, at least your bagged out white KUTS have worked out! To answer your question, I prefer low rises on all my jeans, but go mid rise or low rise on trousers despite the cut - tailored or slouchy. Right now, I'm wearing J.Brand zippered skinnies - tight but not body con - and they have a 7 inch rise. I find it very comfy and flattering. I've faux tucked a tailored turtleneck and belted. I like to belt with a lower rise in jeans because I find the proportions flattering on my body type. I also happen to like the look of a long torso - and I am not short waisted. Hope that makes sense.

FYI - my AE skinny jeans in regular length have an 8" rise. This post has been so eye opening for me. 8" rise is super low rise on me and I am 5'4".

The denim hunt is on! watching the update with interest as the trend to "go stretch" seems to be taking over the denim world.
I too am an owner of Diana Kut's that bag out past the point of annoyance. They are on my "to consign" or otherwise do something other than wear pile.

I once bought a pair of Dsquared2 mens' jeans to sell and almost kept them for myself, because even those had a nice, low rise. Nice call, Tina!

Looking forward to hearing your update Angie.

What a thrilling process of jeans hunt! keep us posted, Angie.

Until you pointed out the jean situation, I hadn't realized how bad it is. Add the popularity of ankle and cropped styles and it gets even harder. I tried on 15 pair of jeans at the Rack in a variety of brands and not one looked fab on. All were thin and stretchy.
I hope you can find something perfect. This is a good lesson for us on PPP.

Wow, Angie what a saga! I hope you find your perfect jeans soon. The fashion bloggers I read who like good old-fashioned non-stretch denim seem to wear raw denim APC and Levi's, but you've tried those (plus they're not light blue, I don't think).

I'm completely with you on the low rise and the firm fabric. I'm actually finding that it's a happy thing for me though, that modern styles have the higher rise and the stretchy, thin fabric - the thrift stores have exactly what I want!

That is helpful, Angie - thank you! I think I am lucky, in a sense...and 8 inch rise is really low on me...I might have more choices for the non-stretch denim than you have had. I also like to tuck and belt with my jeans. Especially the ones with a bit of slouch, but really, all of them.

Chrisianne, that is too bad about your Kut Dianas.
If we buy them hoping and expecting them to fit snug, then it is very frustrating when they bag out.

Angie, I just did some denim measurements and have found that my happy rise is 7-7.5" (7" is ideal). Anything longer and it really starts to look sloppy (mainly since I have a strong swayback and don't have back darts in any of my jeans). All of my 7.5"+ rise jeans I wear low on my hips just the same, and let the crotch sag; they're all slouchy pants, anyway I also noticed that my most best fitting, along with the most substantial denim, pairs are all from teen skater shops (Zumiez in particular). They are all several years old, so I am not sure if that's still the case with the brand (Epmypre. Definitely NOT premium denim ).

Suz, My KUTs are absolutely slouchy on me, and I don't mind the effect but I would prefer it in a different color. I just really like my white denim outfits to have more tight bottoms apparently!

Wow. I'm really the odd woman out. I need a super high rise and I LOVE stretch denim.

I remember back in the day, before jeans had stretch - I hated wearing them. They just didn't work with my curves. These days, the only jeans I wear are Paige Hidden Hills, which have a rise of 9"!

Between my love of the high rise and the boot cut, I feel really out of step... but it works for me!

I'm just shocked that at just over 5' 4" I can't do a rise under 8". Yet Angie, with a few inches in height on me needs much lower. And I consider my jeans fairly low rise on me, like 3 or 4 fingers width below the belly button.

Mo - I'm only 5'4" too and I definitely need the 9" I get with the Hidden HIlls.
