The dress I never wore (keep or give away?)

I purchased this dress at Anthropologie a few years ago. I tried it on so many different times but ended up choosing something else to wear. It still has the tags on. Maybe that is a reason good enough to give it away, but I thought I let Angie and you ladies give me some of your valuable opinions. Please be honest. Thank you! I hope the pics are ok, its my first time posting pictures.

Holy smokes, you look like you were born to wear this dress!

The only thing I might suggest is taking the hem up a bit (to mid-knee or even above); I think you carry it off as-is with those legs of yours and it does emphasize the retro elements at the current length, but maybe that's what's throwing you? You might also want the straps shortened a bit.

It IS a total attention-getter, so if that makes you uncomfortable I understand. But seems a shame not to keep it....

The dress is lovely. It seems, to me, to be sitting on your chest a little low. It looks as if it is adjustable, so you could just pull it up by the strap and tighten it. It appears to fit you really well otherwise.

What is preventing you from wearing it ?

Thanks Isabel and Vix:-) Maybe it does deserve another chance? I will consider your advise and take the hem up a bit. Actually it is a halter top and can be adjusted, what bothers me is the balloon effect, especially from the side (I think it makes me look bigger). I'll take it to my seamstress for a last chance... Wow! That dress is beautiful on you! I agree with the others that it needs to be hiked up a tad bit at the chest, but other than that, it looks fabulous!

Is the halter style making you feel exposed? A crop shrug would give you some coverage and still show off the pretty silhouette of the dress.

Let's figure out a way to make this work because this dress needs to come out and play! : )

Welcome, Karli! It IS a striking dress and has a fun retro vibe!

What do you think about wearing a cropped cardi, with the sleeves pushed up your forearms, over it? I would tend to repeat one of the colors in the dress. Or what about a very cropped washed denim jacket over it -- might be fun. (I think because I am sitting in the middle of a 2-foot snowfall today, I fear any exposed skin!)

I also noticed that it seemed to sit a bit low on your chest. See if hoisting it up a couple of inches makes a good difference - that would raise the hemline and the waistline and the arm pits. Those changes may or may not be good. . .

If you were wearing it on a nice hot summer day, I'd swap out the pumps for a strappy wedge sandal.

I bet if you could figure why you've let in sit unworn, then worked out the concern, you'd have lots of fun with this (in the warm weather - brrr!)

I find myself wanting to pull the bodice up an inch. It isn't so much that it is inappropriately low cut, but proportionately it just seems off.

I agree with the other posters that you do look beautiful in the dress, and also that it would look better hemmed 2 inches. However if you haven't worn it until now, and it still has tags on, it still has good consignment value, if you have a consignment shop in your area. You know your style best, and there must be something about it that bothers you. Maybe all that material makes you self conscious? Or, on the other hand, maybe you were just looking for that extra boost from us members to make you take the plunge and wear it. Know thyself and fab style will follow.

That is funny Karil, I didn't see it as "balloonish" at all. I thought more Mad Men with a great modern vibe. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have never thought of it. So I agree with Angie, if you feel anything less than fabulous, it is not worth it. But just for the record, I would kill to look that good in that kind of dress !!!! I find it uber-flattering on you.

Great dress! I'd pull it higher on the chest, if you can. I actually like the hem length with the heels.
