For those who missed the post, I have a 12 year old seldom worn impeccable ink blue Burberry peacoat. Has fab lining too!

It has two strikes against it: It's very dark, and an odd-to-me length.

Lessons learned:

  1. Navy, and all dark outerwear, is not versatile for my style. I passed on a navy trench coat a few years ago too. I love dark blue! But not in outerwear, shoes, or bags.
  1. Watch that high-thigh topper length. It wasn't my favourite length in the '80s and '90s either. I prefer toppers shorter on longer.

That said, I've figured out how to love my Burberry coat in smaller doses.

# Wear it with a high contrast top like cream or citron to lighten the dark. Cream belt and boots to match and lighten the dark column. Light bag too.

#Wear it with navy bottoms to offset the length I don't like. The navy columned effect creates a low contrast between the topper and the bottom, which makes the horizontal line disappear. It disguises the length.

Here are four bottom options:

1. Navy Pinstripe Wide Legs - love! Will wear this. (#2 -#5)

2. Cream Barrels - do not love. The high contrast accentuates the length I don't like. Will not wear this. (#6 - #7)

3. Navy Flared Trouser Jeans - love! Will wear this. (#8 - #10)

4. Navy Big Cuff Slouchy Jeans - love! Will wear this.

I won't wear this column of dark often. Just from time to time when the mood strikes. And when I do, it's with a happy heart xo
