The battle of satchels - picture heavy!

Some time ago I asked your advice on a bag selection for my birthday.
Well, today was the day and my hubby was able to order a dove color as well as black, even when I thought that dove was gone.
So now I got both bags - in black and in dove grey colors - and a hard part is to choose which one to keep! Can you help?
#1 - both bags (the dove color looks much lighter and bluer in this pic)
#2 - the most accurate color of the dove one. It comes lighter in the pictures than IRL, it is more grey-taupe color, not off-white. (which reminds me that I should have taken pictures with white clothing for comparison - next time!)
Next pictures are with my outerwear:
# 3-4 - black coat
# 5-6 - cobalt coat
#7-8 - purple trench
#9-10 - tan trench
#11-12 - red cape
Please vote which one to keep - dove or black?

Decisions, decisions, decisions. I cannot remember whether you have another black bag. If not, I recommend keeping the black. Otherwise, keep the gray. I wouldn't recommend keeping both because they are the same style and you would probably want more variety.

I like them both but think the black is more season appropriate. The grey looks a bit too light with the black coat and deep jewel tones.

Gorgeous bag(s)! I'm in a low contrast mind set lately, so am drawn to the black bag. Also, since you are wearing black trousers I like the black bag with your coats. With different colour trousers I might change my mind....

They are both lovely - how thoughtful of your husband! I like the black better, personally, especially with your coloured outerwear. The dove works too, but I think that is partly because of your light coloured shoes.

I love the grey but I'm not sure if that is for me or you I understand the practical nature of a black bag but somehow the grey adds something to your outfits imo. Having said that I'm not matchy, matchy in the slightest. Which one do you love? Which one would you be sad to return?

I think the black. I like them both, but this one looks better with all the outerwear options. I think you can get a lighter bag in the spring.

Hmm. but Merwoman raises a good point -- you have dark trousers on. I might feel differently for different outfits. It is more to complete an outfit - and this is when it gets tricky. Both are beautiful!

I want to love the dove but I am really loving the way the black one looks so classic in that shape. I so wish you could keep dove too, I think you would get much more wear out of it in the spring.

Of course, the black would work with everything, but I like the dove. In the interest of full disclosure I have a mid-gray colored satchel that I splurged on 2 years ago and it is getting worn out by all of our outings. It goes with everything and is a great medium contrast to my propensity for black and charcoal. I also love it with navy and jeans, as there is almost no brown, tan or cognac in my wardrobe or accessories. You wear more colors than I do, so black might add more punch to your outfits. The tan trench is the only one I don't like the dove with as much.

I very much prefer the black bag. It coordinates better to my eye with the deeper and darker winter colours.

I think the dove one is more interesting and has more pop to it, which may not be what you want out of an everyday bag but I think is more exciting :). I think I might feel differently if you had different shoes on though, since the ones you're currently wearing help tie the bag to your outfit.

I love the dove grey one but not with the tan trench. I do see Merwoman's point about the dark trousers. Oh this is hard Sveta! The black goes with everything…I'm going to be no help to you whatsoever I'm afraid

When you first asked about the new bag I had voted for the dove grey. Now that I see them with your coats I think the black looks richer and more polished.

Sveta -- another test -- let us see the bag with your boots and booties. Because you will be wearing those throughout the winter.

Am pretty sure one reason the black is tying in better here is your pants. But the other is your hair! And much as I love the dove (oddly, especially with the tan), I am swaying towards black. It looks so luxe.

I agree with Deb. The black looks more polished and versatile while grey is more for contrast and looks more fun. Please note though that grey will probably be high maintenance since it will not hide stains, dirt etc.

The black one. The grey is lovely but it is more for someone, who already has some sort of collection. The dove is too delicate for a primary bag.

I think they grey offers a nice pop of color, while still being a neutral. I can imagine it with going with a large portion of your wardrobe, too. My only concern is whether or not it would stay clean, but maybe I'm just a messy person?

I was thinking exactly what Merwoman said. I much prefer the black in all cases, but I wonder what I would think if you were wearing grey pants!

Both bags are beautiful. But if you are only keeping one, I vote black. I had a dove gray bag years ago, wore it with a red top and you guessed it, the bag was ruined. One side was covered in red dye! so if you decide to keep the gray, be careful with it.

They are both lovely but I really like the contrast of the dove gray. It brightens up all of your outfits yet still works well as a neutral.
