The '80s puffer vest? Yes or No? And What my son wore.

I have not been on the forum for a while but thought I would check in for advice on the puffer vest. How do these generally work for rectangles? Wondering if intentionally adding bulk to my top half would work for or against me. I'm looking at a traditional Lands End puffer but have not made the jump yet.

My son pictured here is my style inspiration this week. He is dressed for Halloween as one of the greatest 80's film characters ever.

Clever Halloween costume! As much as I Loved my 80's rust colored down vest (paired with my overalls or white painters pants ) I wouldn't wear the same puffy style now. Eddie Bauer has some more slender versions.

I think puffer vests can look good, even very good if you style them well, but the problem I have with them is that I know my arms would be very cold.

I think a puffer vest would be great for a rectangle. I think the trick is embrace it sporty, almost gear like presence. Modern footwear would be important, too!

Do you have one picked out?

OH --- and DS is styling. One of my favorite movies ever!

I was looking at the Joe Fresh Puffers and the Lands End ones in Royal Blue. I actually like the "retro" look of them....but I'm not totally sold yet. I usually do whimsy and retro but until this season never thought about these. I've always associated them with athe unpleasant earth tones and zigzags of the 70's.

Sorry, I didn't address your original question. I personally love a good puffer vest. However, I wonder, are you trying to deemphasize your rectangle ness? If so, I wouldn't go lands end. They are cut pretty boxy.

Agree with Liz, the Lands End version is quite boxy, but comfy and warm. The GAP ones from this version are slim and not bulky, but the armholes are cut sort of high. You might try them, though.

Aside from the white Nikes, his costume was spot on. He looked awesome but not too many people knew who he was, but he was ok with that.

Thanks for the brand recommendations. I found a Gap version in cobalt that I rather like on e bay. It has gathers at the center for a slimmer look. I would probably be happier with that...I think.

I live in a warm-ish climate but still struggle with being cold this time of year. I'm hoping this is a good option.
