I love a fitted flared bootcut pant - but have not had a pair in years, I guess since they were first popular in the 80's. I have tried the odd pair of flared jeans over the years but the look just never stuck. I think with the renewal of an older look, I have a fear of looking like I never grew past the trend in the first place, and am still stuck at my desk in the 80's in my pointy-toed pumps and bootcut flares never having emerged into the 2010's. Well, here I am again, at my desk in my pointy toe pumps and the most comfortable pair of pants I've owned in a million years.

I've been struggling a bit this fall with what to wear - nothing quite hitting me and a lot of my closet staples either no longer fitting properly , or not being current enough in a way I couldn't put my finger on. I picked up a couple of pair of dressy track-style pants (one in navy and another in black) but I know I can't and don't want to wear a trendy style like that every day. My boring Martin cut ankle length BR pants were the only other thing in my closet and they just don't make a look anymore.

Enter yesterday's post. Decided to fly into the mall while out on business yesterday, and go into a store I knew would have really inexpensive "office " clothes and grab a pair of black boot cuts if they had some. I didn't want to spend anything on them, in case I didn't want to move ahead with the look.

Tried them on, they fit like a dream - ripped the tickets off and wore them right out of there. (I paid for them , don't worry) . They are quite fitted through the thigh (thank god the legs are the last to go, you know? ) and flare out nicely from the bottom. Nothing wishy washy about the flare- it's most definitely there. Was already wearing pointy toe pumps, and I swear I walked a little taller and swingier out to my car - I feel like a million bucks in these!

So today - paired them with a wool knit asymmetrical top from Anthropologie, and a new cheapo reptile silky print shirt from JoeFresh. I have a draped lamb leather jacket from Danier I haven't worn in a few years - and layered that on according to instructions This shirt- under- knit top is a whole new thing for me too - and I am quite liking it!! I feel great, the clothes feel good on my body, and I like the sharper, crisper look of this pant silhouette. This so rarely happens, I'm in awe. Because the pants are quite crisp and flared, they will also work well with booties - no catching on the top of the boots! I am never taking these pants off. Outfit is finished with black pointed toe pumps (Ivanka Trump), black diamond safety pin earrings (Rachel Roy) and a black patent watch. Need an interesting non-black handbag to wear with this kind of look and will be looking for an animal print clutch.
