Tell me to step away - MM.LAFLEUR (it's all shiny's fault)

Since shiny posted about the MM Lafleur bento box I cannot get it off my mind.

I have been to their website many times, they keep adding more new stuff and I SO WANT IT ALL!!

I love that their size range includes mine.
I love that they use quality fabrics.
I love that items are made in the USA.
I love that it was founded by women.
I love that they worked in consulting (I do, too).
I love that they GET what a modern working woman needs.

But - and of course there's a BUT - I don't work in an office anymore.

Yes, sometimes I need to visit clients, but it's been WAY less frequent than before. And to be honest I probably have enough to cover the meetings I have (but it's been a while, maybe I should review and justify the need somehow, haha)

Do I really need this quality of item to do the daily school run? I can hardly get myself up and dressed in time much less look polished and put together. I would be sick if I damaged an item while performing toddler mommy duties.

Maybe I am enamored of the brilliant website or the slick photos or the elegant simplicity of the items.

Sigh.

This is a perfect example of buying for the life you lead.

I feel your pain. Aspirational buying is the downfall of many people (including men) that I know. I have no real advice. I just wanted to weigh in and tell you that you are not alone.

I was looking at a dress and it is machine washable, has sleeves, so it could be a throw on and go item - even for a MOTG / WFH day - and could double duty for client visits, too.

Hi ABC. I am not trying to enable you, but I like the dress a lot.

I also like the grey tee shirt. In fact, I think I own the grey tee shirt. The cut is exactly the same. I admit to it being less fitted and more boxy then my normal tops, but I was intrigued and tried it anyway. I found I wore it a lot during the summer months. I can't say I will buy that same shape again though. So your instincts might be right.

Washable is a MUST. I just can't afford dry cleaning any more.

I really like that dress a lot. Washable is a must - I have two toddlers so whatever I wear has to be washable, therefore I won't worry if I need to throw it in the wash after a spill or something.

If you did order would you mind to share the items you got and your impression? Re the cut of the top, it's iffy. Thanks to learning from Angie and YLF I gave an EF top a try with a similar cut sleeve and I love it. I just got a new shirt yesterday with that same cut, so it CAN work, but it has to be precisely that cut for me.

OMG !!! This would be my dream wardrobe. My two favorite colors : cranberry/deep berry and forest green. Then black and white and the off white and the gray. Oh, if I had a life and the money to start from scratch, THIS would be my work wardrobe.

I'm sorry, ABC. I didn't order from them. My tee shirt came from Madewell. I meant to say that my tee shirt was the same color and shape as the one you posted. I was trying to say that the shape, although not my normal shape, was really fun to wear this past summer.

Sally has good advice. I like to experiment. I love trying new merchandisers and if that particular merchandiser speaks to me, that is a win-win. I would pick one washable piece. Order it and see how it goes. I have a checklist that merchandisers have to meet for me to order from them again (checklist => good selection; free shipping; fast shipping; excellent customer service; free returns). If a merchandiser can't meet all or most of those items, I don't come back.

I am in love with that site too! It's a working women's dream! Dresses with sleeves, quality jersey fabric, Tops that match skirts to make them look like a dress but can also be worn separately!!!! Need I go on! I don't work in an office anymore but I so wish I had somewhere to wear these clothes too. I do think that they could fit into a MOTG wardrobe because they have separates so I say give it a try. Now I just need to justify that forest green top and matching skirt!! sigh....

Just be careful Emily K. Buy for your real life. I sadly have not been able to justify buying any MML items bc of that. I'm really trying hard to buy for the life I live, not the one I used to live (biz casual, financial services office). I'll take a second look at their dresses bc one is on my list for spring/summer, but it really has to tick off all the boxes for me to justify it.

I got a bento box a while back and loved it all -- especially the Nisa dress below. And their customer service is amazing -- I lost the belt when I moved and they were able to send me a new one for $30.

No worries that it's old. I still love the idea of the brand I have just resisted so far bc it's not my primary lifestyle need now. I used to work in a corporate office, it would have been perfect back then. Now I wfh 90% or more of the time so I don't need this workwear capsule, sadly.

Yeah I am gonna look at their dresses again at least. I do remember seeing some that are along the lines of what I'm looking for for spring/summer. Actually i had forgotten about the brand until someone resurrected this old thread. Maybe for a reason?!

I have that Nisa dress, too. I love it so much. I do work in a business casual office, so many of these pieces work for that, as well as for when I dress up to meet clients.

I love the company and vision, although I've returned most of what I've ordered - I did keep and love the black Alexandra dress. Keeping my eye on them for future potential purchases, especially now that they're opening a showroom in DC.

I keep watching their items too, but as a SAHM I don't 'need' most of it. I love the simple tailored look. I sometimes wish I had a few items for those times I need to be a bit dressier than jeans, but worry I would be buying for a fantasy lifestyle. Thanks MsMary for the input on good customer service - nice to know if I do buy from them.

Thea, I work from home, live a super casual lifestyle and have a 5 and a 4 year old. If I get anything from them, I'll want it to be machine washable, travels well, and fitting my criteria (ie, dresses with sleeves). I do, however, have to travel to visit clients on occasion, so maybe one of their dresses could work for both needs? I was looking at an EF dress for summer (bc I got one last year that has become a workhorse) so if I can find something that fits the bill it may be worth the price.

I have this one (find 1) from last year I got at Rack on steep discount, something like 40 dollars and it is amazing. I dress it up, down, wear it alone, with a topper, with a scarf, with a pendant necklace...really that's the thing about the EF stuff, it's a blank slate...alone, kinda boring, but when you add your own touch it can become what you want it to. And amazing fabrics. Sorry, enabling.

I'm looking at this one for this year (2nd find).

And I've had my eye on this one (apparently exclusive to garnet hill) for a while, it seems it's refreshed w/diff colors every season.

ETA 3rd find, I like it, but I've told myself I need set in shoulders but that cut of arm/sleeve usually works well for me, I just don't like the back view too much.
