Tell me about your spring handbag!

Hi friends, well, it's way too early to think about spring in Ontario, so of course I am thinking about it

One thing I do want to get is a more transitional temperature purse/handbag. Currently I have something black and faux suede for winter, and a light navy straw bag for summer (I'm not one to change purses from day to day). Both feel perfect for their season and are medium sized and very practical, but both seem a little off for the transition, especially on the spring side, which here is extremely changeable. I do have my nylon Le Pliage but it would be nice to have something fresh. I would like something springy but that won't look totally ridiculous for those inevitable "spring" days when I need my puffer and boots. Basically it needs to work with the outfits in the attached image

Do you switch out for spring weather? Do you use a lighter colour, or material? Bonus points for photos of your favourite spring bags or the ones on your wish list!

I don't exactly change seasonally - I have six bags plus a couple of clutches (some not shown).

- Black/camel - all year, more for work
- Cognac - all year, more casually
- Navy - more for spring, winter and autumn, it feels a bit dark for summer
- yellow cross body - all year but love it in spring
- black cross body - all year
- red straw - summer only
- small blue clutch - all year but rarely worn as very small!!

A bit more of an accent colour could be nice - a clear colour would work all year but be nice in spring. I used to have a stone/cement bag and this was also very very useful. Camel or cognac are also good transition season colours too.

I vote cognac! Feels fresh with more warm season items but doesn’t look out of place with wintry ones.

When I found the black Coach bag, it stopped the wantsies. I use it year ‘round, along with the Red Cross body. The LePliage bags come out for longer days out when I might be removing or adding a topper or a scarf, or carrying snacks and water.

I am keeping an eye open for something sized and shaped like the Coach bag in a colour that will work with my lilac spring coat. I would love to find a bag in the steel blue colour of my suitcase.

I don’t switch bags - I rely on interior jacket pockets for the most part. But, I do have a couple of go-tos for when jackets have to go away. My favorite is the crossbody, for fit/position reasons.

I just wrote a novel and lost it . Probably just as well . I love bags but have to temper my enthusiasm or can get carried away . My days of daily bag use are over , and I don’t want to over buy ( in quantity or $ ) considering the limited use . I only buy when what I’m using gets tired looking - so not necessarily every season or even every year . I just purchased two new bags - lol - and am now done for the year . I have been obsessed with anything teal for ages and a teal bag has been on my list . Keeping in my mind my new semi retired life with less bag use , I decided on the solid faux leather from Indigo ( l) but also threw reason and common sense to the wind and splurged on the multi coloured leather and suede crossbody from Fossil . Ack . I most definitely switch bags out seasonally and clean and pack away my winter collection at the end of March . I “ filter “ by colour and material - but they aren’t mutually exclusive . I keep one black bag out for summer but it’s nylon , and my leather bags for summer are only in light colours etc. I don’t have my bags in finds but here are my two new ones ! Can’t wait to get wearing them !

I bought a bag in about the same cool light tan as my Frye booties. Do you have a pair of boots you are dying to wear once the snow/mud permits?

I have lots of bags and I keep them all
available for use all year round but there are some I don’t reach for much (if at all) in summer: my black bags, dark green bag, and suede cognac coloured bag. I feel like they skew my palette a little too heavy in warm weather (given that I already favour dark colours).

These are what I’d call my Spring/Summer bags, although I do use the raisin coloured bag and the teal bag all year round.

I also have lots of bags and go by mood, but my mood is weather related. I think a cognac, red or other color (which may not be your thing) leather bag might be the thing for you.

I don't have a spring handbag but have been looking for one for the past couple of years. I would like something yellow or green or pink. Right now I have only two handbags that I use regularly--a black Fossil and a cognac Patricia Nash. I feel like black is too dark for spring, and cognac seems too warm. But since spring is so short here, I just make do with one or the other until the perfect spring bag comes along!

I used to have a red bag for spring and switched to multi metallic one from The Sak ( a bit obsessed with metallic accessories ).

Helena, these two bags, whilst vastly different are my two most used and useful bags which I wear and use year round. I find with the cognac bag (8 years old), the colour works because it is neutral. Then with an opposite effect, the lilac bag (3 years old), is a statement on its own and adds a fun pop of colour to a basic spring / summer outfit.

Well Helena I really only use one handbag. I do have others ( one red, one cobalt) that I might occasionally match to outfits, and I have a host of clutches which are hardly used, a couple of those are inherited.
My current one bag is from about August 2019, it replaced a cognac leather one which was getting really battered. This one is synthetic. I chose it as maybe a stopgap in a favourite bronze colour but 18 months later it has suited all seasons and only got slightly worn on the straps. I do look at others but nothing has grabbed me.

I can relate to the cartoon, lol. Berlin got more snow this month than all the snow I’ve ever seen here, combined, and now it’s in the 60s.

I change my bag depending on what I need to put in it. Mine are all hands’-free.

I’m loving my new belt bag, also have a cognac Nash crossbody and black Coach in that size. I’m on the lookout for a smaller belt bag, probably in a shade of brown.

The backpacks, especially the desigual, don’t work well with bulky winter coats, so it’s fun to see them again. The green suede with guitar strap fits in color-wise. It is not a natural-born crossbody; I added the strap. It tends to be the big (for me) bag I carry in winter, so I cool off on it a bit this time of year.

The in-between size of the Sak is awkward for me; I don’t carry it much. It came with two straps—guitar and a quiet canvas one.

I have lot of bags and for me the most versatile are red and cognac, I wear the all year round. I also wear lot of cobalt and powder rose. For summer, white in any occasion. I'm talking about the most versatile bag for me, just to give you idea .

Covid has really changed how I use handbags and I’ve collected (actually in the year or two before Covid) a handful of saffiano leather smaller cross body bags They’ve been super handy cuz pretty much all I do is grocery shop and pick up bread weekly at the bakery. I’m in the office once a week, and I can pop these little bags in the bigger tote I need to schlep all.the.folders. Back and forth from home to office. But. I’ve been wanting a light blue handbag for a few years now, did find a small cross body, saffiano and perfect blue but smal, and do still want one in blue a bit bigger. This Talbots bag is in the catalogue in blue but not online. I’m going to call and see if I can get my hands in this little beauty. I don’t need a new bag ... but I sure want one!

With the exception of backpacks, I've barely used my bags in the past year. I almost always reach for my Patagonia fanny pack and wear it crossbody if I'm in an outfit that doesn't have enough pockets (rare in the winter). I could use my leather crossbody instead, but it feels a little stiff/hard-edged these days. It was my go-to for holiday parties and other rare events; remove the strap and it's a clutch. But I suspect those evening get-togethers may be a thing of the past for DH's workplace. I look forward to using my little lavender canvas circle bag again, so I guess maybe that's my spring bag? It gets dingy fast when everything is salty/sandy/slushy so I don't reach for it until late April/May. My larger bags get used year-round in a regular year, but I have little need for them since I'm not schlepping books/papers/laptop anywhere right now.

Sorry I posted and disappeared (Grade 7 math homework ack!!) but have read everyone's responses and enjoyed your photos with great happiness, so thank you for that! I love all your ideas and bags - it's reminding me there was a time when I really was a bag person - I had all sorts of styles and colours - black, turquoise, red, burgundy, cream, etc - and switched out depending on my outfits - ... *sigh* ... the only thing I miss about working corporate is the clothing

Anyhow, thanks for reminding me about cognac - I have a couple of cognac bags in the holding zone that I sort of forgot about, a tote and a cross-body - so those will be perfect for transition. Which means I don't have to be too sensible and can just keep my eyes open for something fun, if it strikes my fancy! Love the idea of shade of green/emerald (thanks Brooklyn!), teal, which a few people mentioned and is always surprisingly versatile, or even pink or red. Which reminds me I have a small silky scarf in those colours which I could tie onto any of my neutral bags for a touch of spring, too. My spring wardrobe is navy/neutral heavy of course, so a pop of colour would be really fun.

I'm with Angie and Brooklyn in suggesting something in the green family. It's interesting to read how many cognac bag lovers there are here . It seems like such a logical colour for anyone, really, but I NEVER pull mine out, and I've had few over the years thinking they were a *should have* . Not sure what it is .....

I see you've found your solution so that's fab! Just wanted to share my own method for fun. I own two crossbodies now for work: the blush I've had for two years or so and it works theoretically year round, but I dislike how winter light makes it look more beige... so I got the new black one for the colder seasons.
My casual bags are year round in use. As you can see I find leather and nylon fabrics, and cognac and red very versatile! Agree that suede and straw feel very seasonal.

Lisa, I'm the same with cognac ... it serves a very specific purpose for me, but it's not a slamdunk for me the way it is for others; for me, I think it's because I strick with an almost completely cool colour palette and it's decidedly warm ... however I do love the look of it, and the pieces I have will do the job!

Green/teal is on the radar ...

I have no business getting another bag, but I just received this Aimee Kestenberg tote in Magestic Green on a great sale from Rack, and I think I'm keeping it. It's a very dark green, almost looks black.
