Team High Vamp or Low Vamp?

I never even knew about vamp issues before YLF - if you asked, I probably would have thought it had something to do with Twilight.

Obviously, I am Team High Vamp and need to broaden my horizons. You?

Usually I'm team low vamp because my legs appreciate every little bit I give them. But never say never, especially if it's nude shoes with skirts, or oxfords.

Almost all my shoes are low vamp for the same reason as celia but I've seen so many higher vamped ones on here that I LOVE so I might have to try some.

I am team low vamp all the way. For the reasons celia said as well as the fact that I like a horizontal line on my feet to make them look a tad smaller. I do wear high vamp nude sandals, though.

It depends. Right now due to working in the yard, I'm team low vamp. Perhaps this weekend if hubster takes me to dinner, it will be team high vamp. I have a mixture of shoes, so it really depends on the situation with me. (And if my feet feel tired!!!)

Where are we considering the line between high and low vamp? Somewhere near the arch of the foot?

My shoes are pretty much all low vamp. I like the look better, and I also have very high arches, so any shoe that hits me at the highest point of my foot (where I think a lot of high vamp shoes hit) is not comfortable.

Low vamp, BUT not so low there's toe cleavage. Partly because I don't like it, partly because if the vamp's that low it makes my average feet look kind of wide.

Hmmm... high vamp from a practical standpoint because I can wear secret socks inside them. I do like the way low vamp shoes look but have come to grips with the fact that most low vamp shoes will never be eight hour shoes for me. I need socks inside my closed toe shoes!

I am used to shoes that do not maximize my leg line so I don't really worry about that any more... most of my sandals have ankle straps because of my particular fussy foot issues, and of course I love all of my boots. I am also team high constrast so clearly having a super long leg line is not my top priority.

Both! Different outfits have different shoe needs. For me a low vamp means low enough for 'toe cleavage', and a high vamp means around the ankle line - I like to have a variety, some high, some low, and a bunch in-between. So really what I'm saying is that ridiculous numbers of shoes are an absolute necessity in a woman's wardrobe.

So in my lunch hour I walked over to the shoe boutique and tried on low vamp shoes, thinking about why I don't like them on me. DINGDINGDING! I realized that because my feet are so short and wide - square, basically! - the low vamp makes them look even wider and stubbier. I actually need shoes that make my feet look longer and narrower, and I can get that look with boots or high vamp shoes. Anyyhing too low along the sides of my feet looks awful.

In ballet shoes my feet look RIDICULOUS, like little hooves (as my friends agreed this weekend!), and my heels tend to slip because my toes are wider than my heel. Same issue with low vamp pumps, which is why I usually go for a strap for security. I also can't do over a 2.5 heel, and most pumps have a narrow heel.

I know no one even notices but me; however, it was interesting to contemplate why I veer toward certain shoe choices style-wise and know that it's not just a style quirk.

I love the look of low vamp shoes, but I can't find any that my fussy feet can tolerate. Actually, I have a hard time finding any shoes (other than boots/booties/sandals) that my feet can tolerate.

Una, your comment about not liking the way your feet look in low vamp shoes made me think about the same thing... my feet are narrow but very flat (like pancake flat, basically) and very low vamp shoes, particularly things like ballet flats with no heel to hold things up, really showcase their pancake-ness. Same goes for d'Orsay shoes, which I always think are super cute but always result in my foot spilling over the open part (it's like foot muffin top!).

Team Low vamp...for the leg lengthening effects (on me). But sometimes this makes for trouble, because I have a very narrow heel and shoes without a strap across will fall off. And then the cross strap has a widening effect on the front (and limits the lengthening effect of the low vamp!)

I've been a coward. Mostly in winter I opt for boots. In summer, it's sandals (though the last few seasons I've struggled to find any low vamp ones that fit, stay on, look good, etc. and have ended up with straps in places I'd rather not have them.

Shopping for shoes will be yet another lesson I'll learn here!

I'm team low vamp. Lately I've found that pumps with a high vamp - for example, the Fidji Mary Janes that suited Angie's feet so well - come up too high on the top of my foot and can cause a lot of rubbing or discomfort. Apparently the lower part of my foot, just above my toes, is a bit more durable/less sensitive.

Team boots, so I guess that means high vamp. As high as can be.

I had the same problem as Kari with the FIdjis. Most low vamp shoes cut across my big toe joint and rub/dig painfully.

I am team whatever is most lengthening for the particular outfit. I used to love wearing booties/shooties/cage heels with dresses because I thought it was edgy. YLFer's call me on it every time I try it now. I realize it is not the most flattering look on me. Now I only do high vamp shooties if they are low contrast. I never wore pumps or ballet flats before, now I must have 20+ pairs in heavy rotation. Leg lengthening looks have become a key part of my style since my wardrobe overhaul.

Maya, in looking up the word vamp I found a site that said knee high boots are actually low vamp because they create a continuous leg line. See why I'm confused? In any case, I am also Team Boot with you.

Una, that is horribly confusing about boots being low vamp. I'm on team I need some kind of strap or boots to keep my shoes on my feet. So if t-straps are high vamp and boots are low vamp, then I guess I'm on both teams?
