I have made some shopping mistakes in the past, and aquaired coats and jackets without pockets. Oh, the horror!

I’ll stand over in the lonelier corner — coats/jacket-y things aside, I dislike any but the tiniest, key or card-sized functional pockets.

I’ve have had them cut out of jeans, pants, and dresses. And I’ve had them stitched closed in many garments as well.

Some of it is for how empty pockets lay on me, but much of it is to disliking the way stuff in pockets bulges out and especially how it *FEELS.* Just ugh, haha — esp when it’s just one side of the body.

What can I say, I have a whole princess/pea thing with pockets!

Many of my clothes have pockets, and I, too, appreciate pockets. However, they are not all-important to me. I usually dress in layers, so if one of the items I am wearing lacks pockets, this will seldom be a problem, as one or two other items will likely have pockets. Every item in my wardrobe doesn't need to have pockets.

I appreciate a good pocket, but poorly designed pockets bother me! The ones that stick out on the sides of pants, or the ones that hit at just the *wrong* spot on dresses, or the ones on coats that are entirely the wrong angle to put your hands in...

Now that I have a good selection of toppers and small bags (especially my little Patagonia fanny pack) I'm a lot more relaxed about wearing outfits without pockets. I would really like a "garden dress" of some sort with big patch pockets on the front, for layering over leggings and pocket-less pants, as in the photo below.

Pockets are very important but also problematic re: pants.
I appreciate how some of my no- pocket/ minimal- pocket pants may fit bett on hip so I would be willing to have no pockets in something like fancy dress pants.
But for everyday life I like being able to put phone in one pocket and keys in other— if too bulge-y for an occasion, I would put them in handbag.
So many modern jeans have inadequate pockets.
Cost pockets ( not blazers) MUST have “ correct “ placement, angle, depth. A deal- breaker.

After some air travel last year I realized how much I liked the security of zipper pockets, for my small travel wallet and my phone and maybe a couple other things. So scary to realize something has kind of squeezed its way out of your pocket while sitting in the plane, or going to the ladies.
So much so that I have been moving toward some very specific travel capsules and that may include “technical “ garments, sporty items. Most important for lightweight jackets ( what I might be keeping on in the car or plane/terminal - whenever I travel again!) and the pants. Ideally these are very wearable at home in their seasons, since it’s no good to have very many things saved up, and maybe going out of fit or otherwise deteriorating.
Since I expect to keep doing more walking and at least trips to local or state parks, that can still be a goal. I am trying to look at it as a challenge to find the best combinations of style and function ( re things like pockets, comfort / movement but sleek or well tailored ) and see if I can practice PPP.

When I am home I must have pockets - phone and many other random things that need to move around with me. I like pockets on my dresses etc. but can do without. Coats must have warm and functional pockets, of course!

I'm another who likes pockets but it isn't a make-or-break thing for me. One thing with coat pockets though, I don't like it when they have zippers. I always feel like they need to be zipped shut but then I can't put my hands in them. Hate that.

Great topic!

Pockets are extremely important to me. If a garment doesn’t have the right pocket placement. depth and sturdiness I want, back it goes. The pocket issue is most important to me when it comes to
outerwear, but regardless of type, I want a pocket, because I need a place to stow my hands! I’ve always got my hands in my pockets, so I gotta have them!!
