We went to a wildlife refuge out in the desert today. It was in the upper 30s/low 40s and cloudy. I shopped my closet for warm clothes. I was warm enough most of the day. I bought this jacket before my no buy year, from Sierra Trading Post. In turn, I donated my olive Kuhl jacket to the homeless this weekend. The pockets were too small for my ginormous phone. I wore it for several years, and I hope a homeless person will get some good use out of it.

1. My outfit - Gerry sherpa lined jacket, old ratty Timberland boots, REI earflap hat, plus neck gaiter, gloves, Columbia pants. Not shown, Patagonia fleece shirt, and long underwear. Not fashionable, but utilitarian. Bonus: Mr Skunky and Bob Barker! They make birding nearly impossible. Still, they like an outing as much as anyone, so I try to make it work.
2. Short eared owl. Yes, they are diurnal.
3. Loggerhead shrike.
4. White pelican.

If my pictures seem a little better, it might be because my husband gave me a new camera for Christmas. I had been using an old hand-me-down, and this one focuses easier.
