Sunscreen recommendations needed.

I'm happy with no name SPF 60 products marketed for use on children for my body, but find that it clogs pores when used on my face. I've rarely used a product specifically intended for the face, though I've used day creams with SPF 15 and BB creams with pigment (which adds protection as well). Now that I am retired, I'm spending lots of time out of doors and want something that offers more protection. (I do wear a hat and sometimes a bandana on my neck.) My skin runs dry with some sensitivities and Rosacea.

What SPF products have you used and liked? Bonus points for a good SPF lip product.

I use Elta MD sunscreen products. I'm not sure if they are allowed in Canada though.

Runcarla - I only use mineral sunscreens. Neutrogena 50 Pure and Free baby or Neutrogena Sheer Zinc 50. I have sensitive skin and not problems with irritation or breakouts. Because mineral sunscreens are slightly pearlescent, even though I have very pale skin I often apply Colorescience 50 power sunscreen in fair/light on top. It's also titanium and zinc. For lips, Lipcotz makes a 45 mineral sunscreen you can find it on amazon. It's an unattractive beige color but goes on like a nude lip.

La Roche-Posay makes some really nice ones with 50 or 60 protection. They even make it in a primer formulation. Lots to choose from to meet your needs.

I made the switch to mineral sunscreen and I now use Skinceuticals tinted sunscreen. They have a few to choose from and when I order online I usually purchase when on sale at one of their approved resellers. https://www.skinceuticals.com/.....nCeuticals

like danusia, i also made the switch to a mineral sunscreen (at least for my face). i was finding my eyes were watering after an hour or so at the beach, and assumed i was getting sand in them...then i heard about sensitivities to chemical sunscreen and decided to give mineral a try...it definitely helped....i use this cheapish drug store/mass brand

Hi Runcarla --

I'm the biggest brand ambassador for the derm-developed Epionce line of skincare and protection, esp when sensitive or rosacea'd. I think lovely skin dot com sells to CA and I buy when 20% off -- but even full-price it's cheaper than most derm lines and with the non-sunscreen stuff a little goes a very long way.

Personally with the sunscreen I found the 35 had a slight scent and their new tinted 50 is a little...something for me so I stick with the regular SPF 50.

For drugstore, Neutrogena has various lines I like in the 50+ range but they don't work as well under [my liquid mineral] makeup so that's more my "active" hike / beach day choice.

I use the small Neutrogena (Pure and Free Liquid) bottle on the left for my face (SPF 70), and then the Coppertone lip balm (SPF 50). The lip balm is hard to find in winter, so I bought a ton of it this spring. It’s nice because there isn’t any scent in it. I use sunscreen every day, even in winter, because it’s so sunny here.

I love Tizo mineral sunscreen. It is slightly tinted so I never need foundation and is very affordable. It is available on Amazon which makes it convenient to order on a regular basis.

I use the Japanese Nivea stuff too. This is the one I have, which is like a lightweight gel formulation, which I really like. (I also apply moisturizer when I use it). I think there's also a more traditional lotion-y type. I buy it from Amazon - just a warning, depending on whether or not it ships directly from japan it can take weeks to arrive.

I am allergic to avobenzone, which is in almost all high-SPF sunscreens in the US. (The mineral ones don't have it but they feel like putting plaster on my face.) My moisturizer (Olay sensitive SPF 15) does not have it but is only SPF 15. The Japanese products use other sunblock chemicals that are not available in in the US. There's also a Biore one that a lot of people like.

I'm so sensitive to sunscreens that for years I didn't use one on my face (terrible, I know, but the reactions were worse!). I could manage one of those "stick" sunscreens on ears, nose, forehead, but that was it. Thank heaven I live in a northern place and was not out in the sun all that much. I do have some sun damage anyway, of course.

It is quite rich and emollient, though, so will not do for those with oily skin. I like it for my very dry skin and layer it over moisturizer. I add the sun stick (usually Neutrogena) for nose and ears etc. as well -- I can carry it in my bag and reapply easily.

They also have a new mineral version which I intend to try. But it is more of a lotion so may not be quite as good for me.

Another vote for the tinted Skinceuticals (see danusia's post above). It's very lightweight and doesn't clog my pores--and my pores are easily clogged. It's SPF 50.

I have extremely sensitive skin. You look at me funny and I get eczema. I only use mineral sunscreen. I use LaRoche Posay Mineral (make sure it is Mineral) or Clinique Mineral. I have been very impressed with the Clinique one. I was never a big Clinique fan but the sunscreen is very good.

THANKS everyone! I've picked up some Neutrogena Sensitive Skin. I'm going to get the Clinique and LaRoche since those are available in my community. It looks like a long summer and DH wants to share so there is the opportunity to give some of the others (that have to be ordered) a try as well.

I also have Rosacea and have tried many brands .
My sunscreen of choice is zinc based with maybe titanium dioxide with a tint so it isn't white. (My current favorite is Cetaphil redness relieving but it's only SPF 20) The zinc actually makes my skin calmer.
No Avobenxone no ostisalate no octocyclene no oxybenzone Etc Etc. I find any of the chemical sunscreens wreck my skin.
I have used the color science mineral product on my part before and it worked well to avoid burning there...

Bye Bye Foundation if I want to even out my skin tone, and Burn Out Eco Sensitive if not. Although of course the companies status could change, both are cruelty free. I haven't had a problem with either.

I have very mild rosacea, sensitive skin, and overheat easily. Sunscreen is good, shade is better.

After Diana mentioned the Japanese Nivea sunscreen last year, I ordered it from Amazon. I've used it ever since. I've NEVER had too much sun with it on, even when I'm out too long without reapplication. It is lighter and less oily than anything I've ever used. It is now the only sunscreen I will wear on my face.

I will wear some of the Neutrogena products on my body, but even when their SPF numbers are higher, I still tan and/or burn through them at times, whereas that's never happened with my face.

I recently read about the damage that sunscreen is doing to the oceans, and want to make better choices, so thanks for this thread and all the suggestions in it. A great place to start!

But up until now I’ve used ombrelle. They have a high spf (75 I think) for the face, as well as a stick.

I stick to physical sunscreen for my face. It also lasts longer. I use Australian Gold mineral lotion

Another vote for Neutrogena - I also have rosacea-prone skin, and this one's not too bad, and affordable enough that I don't have to be too sparing with it. I use a Neutrogena moisturizer with SPF under my makeup and keep a number of bottles in my purse for summer. Aveeno brand is another good one for sensitivities that I sometimes use.

For my lips, I haven't found anything I don't react to - I use lipstick so I figure that at least covers them somewhat (not scientific lol!) and moisturize them with Aquaphor or coconut oil frequently.

I have used a million different types of foundation at all price points and continuously come back to l'Oreal tru-match, which also have an SPF in it.

And as a fair-skinned, easily burned person, I am all about hats and lightweight coverage as much as possible in summer.

I like SuperGoop CC foundation with sunscreen. Unfortunately there are only two shades, but the lighter one works great for me. I often get compliments on my skin.
Also Shisiedo has a great SPF 50, but very spendy
I think I need to look into the Japanese Nivea.

It’s pricey but I really like Murad. It doesn’t clog my pores or leave me shiny afterward, and is the best of the mineral sunscreens that I’ve tried.
