Summer shirt and shell topper - does it work?

I liked Angie's monochromatic Shirt and Shell Top Combination and I'm experimenting with a spring/summer version. The linen shirt is from Sussan, and the crocheted cotton shell top is from Sportsgirl.

The skirt is the Sportscraft skirt that I've posted about numerous times before. If my closet was on fire, I do think I'd consider diving in there to rescue this skirt, ladies :). http://www.sportscraft.com.au/.....l#start=14

Does this work? I feel it needs more structure and am hoping I can add that with a bag......all suggestions, comments, feedback welcome.

I enjoyed wearing the cold-shoulder top with the skirt and I'm looking forward to trying it with bootcut jeans as per Angie's advice. I love the 70's vibe of the blousy, chiffon-y, caftan-y fit and the big floral print. The lovely drop earrings were a gift from Ornella some years ago and are still going strong; thankyou, Ornella!

I love the floral top... so pretty and summery. Where are the sandals from if I can ask Lynne.... Both look very pretty...

Nice interpretation of Angie's shell top ensemble :). I really like it the way it is. It also debombshells the denim skirt.

The top in outfit 2 is gorgeous on you. Pretty colors!

I'm particularly liking the first outfit, but then I'm a big fan of both white and femme. Well done on your interpretation. The second outfit suits you and looks summery, youthful and cool and works well with denim.

That lace detail shell is really pretty and I like the fit and the layering very much! I also think that floral top is beautiful with your coloring. Both are great with the denim skirt and sandals. Fab all around!

Lynne you always look so pretty and polished that I find it hard to evaluate particular looks! I think you are one of those people who I just automatically assume that if you are wearing it, it must be right!!

I love the layering of the lace top with the long sleeve shirt, it has so much visual interest. The cold-shoulder top in 2 is beautifull and goes perfeclty with the denim skirt, you look great!

Such pretty outfits, Lynne. To my eye they both work. If you feel a need for more structure in #1, you're right that a bag would help, or possibly a shoe with a pointy toe? Or perhaps a different (crisper) button front shirt? I really like this idea to "summerize" the look. The floral top is so lovely on you.

The floral top is a great find--perfect juxtaposition with the denim skirt, and the sandals are just right. These colors are divine on you.
I like the lace shell! I might wear it over a top that contrasts just a bit more to show through the lace although I can appreciate the monochrome purpose. Maybe a very pale pastel?

The shirt and shell look is great! That skirt just magically works with everything. I like Angie's idea of wearing the pearls on your skin inside the collar. Also love the second outfit, the colors of that tunic really make you glow.

Jenanded, I got these sandals from Hobbs a few years ago and I think they fit the criteria for wardrobe essentials; they seem to work with all manner of casual outfits and the colour is a true neutral for me. If I see a similar pair I'll give you a heads up :).

Suz, I think my problem is actually this particular shirt; when I wear it alone I also feel very 'slopy shouldered' :). I will experiment some more.
Unfrumped, good suggestion; I tried white on white as I wasn't very confident with this and thought it would be a good way to dip my toe in for starters.

Angie, THANKYOU for my K - whoop, whoop! And you are right about the pearls; I changed them from in to out and back again and really couldn't work it out.

I completely love the floral top! I'm clueless on the top-over-shell thing, so no advice there, but it looks good to me. The sandals are great too and look really versatile.
