I'm increasingly drawn to a more sophisticated, "classic-based "style of late . I am admittedly annoyed at my trendier pieces (weird chunky /wave Sorel sandals and parachute nylon pants for example) - although thankfully I haven't spent much on them this year - and have never felt happier than I am/was in these two dresses.
The pictures really don't do the long linen number justice. It's a washed indigo linen which is not tied in back and making me look pregnant despite the photo . It hangs straight down and I promise it's poor lighting and poor camera operation It's slit up both sides, and is a dream to wear. A pair of black Spanx shorts underneath and it was a good silhouette in person. I'm really into classic flat leather sandals right now and liked this dress with very plain Grecian black sandals and a black/navy nylon/leather bag. Jennifer Alfaro-inspired and informed choice of silver jewellery instead of the expected gold.
The striped cotton shirt dress is about 6 years old - and bought after an NYC meet-up with Vivian (Viva) who wore it that day. I love it but don't wear it a lot - it wrinkles more than I realized - oh well. I used to wear it with gold flat sandals, but am not feeling metallics this year. These flat brown Hermes knock-offs are super comfortable and I think lend the look more sophistication and classic-ness than my "old" choices. Sneakers are fine with this but I tend not to wear them much on days off work. Super happy to get some wear out of this bag which is also old. Pearl earrings and ring , and navy ombre sunglasses to finish.
And then my real summer style - lol : out for a walk in the 30C heat. Wish me luck!
Now to just figure out how to work this look with pants, shorts, jeans etc.
