Styling these jeans ?

I’ve just completed my pre-fall edit of my summer wardrobe - getting rid of things that didn’t work and I know I won’t want to wear again . I have never been able to get rid of these jeans , even though I never wear them , because I have an inexplicable soft spot for them . They are at least 5 years old , but fit really well and are so pretty ! But I have NO IDEA how to style them . I also can’t decide which season they are meant for .

Any ideas ? Or shall I quit being so sentimental over a piece of clothing that isn’t me and will cost too much to style well ? Are they verging on rhinestone cowboy territory ? Oh my god ……how did not see that until just now ?

Lisa, I think it would help if we could see them on you. The length and fit will be a big factor in styling.

Hmm, perhaps I'm being daft but I would wear them just like a regular pair of jeans? Of course if you had an echo of cream or another light color somewhere e.g., nails, earrings, necklace, watch, bracelet, top, belt, pants...you get the idea so much the better, but these pearls are so understatedly elegant and also somewhat echoed by your hair color, so I would think that you could pair them with anything.

ETA: forgot to mention that I love these and think they are awesome! You must wear them!

Yes Jonesy -you’re being daft I’m not going to stick any old sweater on with these - or any old shoe or boot - which is the issue . I’m having trouble visualizing the outfit - which not usually my problem . Does it need a femme - looking white sweater ? Cute little white loafers ? I’m not going to wear or buy either of those two things . Do I just do basic black boots and a sweater ? And pick up the pearls in jewellery ? That seems a bit much , even to me - lol.

The pearls are confounding me .

Chewy - no , I don’t own white high tops , or any other white shoes other than basic white Converse , which I don’t see working with these jeans . Maybe the white footwear is the problem .

As you have been building your earth tones, do you have any light peachy/terra cotta tops or sweaters? Or anything in cream or with cream or peachy beige in it? Or a scarf with some cream or light neutral in it? How about the print Anthro top and light colored Birks you wore in your WIW the other day?

I'd go with light creamy earthy neutrals, to pick up the pearls without being a literal match with them, if that makes sense.

Very pretty! I like the raggedy/refined juxtaposition. What about pairing it with a loose knit white sweater (white, off-white, cream...), refined white sneakers or sandals. A crisp white shirt with sleeves pushed back -- untucked and maybe partially undone with a white cami beneath? White/cream cashmere sweater and dainty cream loafers for cooler weather?

they are lovely! would love to hear how you'll style them.

I'd definitely pick up the pearls with the jewellery. and would even add a white or tweed blazer and a white shirts with some fun text like Janet showed few posts ago. That'd be an interesting look (in my head) but you need to do a few trials.

I would wear them for a girls night out. I wouldn’t match the pearls elsewhere. I don’t see them with combat boots - possibly mules or ankle boots on the slimmer side or even your olive sneakers.

What about edging it up with a black top and black shoes?

I like Jonesy’s suggestions of creamy shades and light earth tones. Olive would also be great. I think you could go quite casual with tops and let the pearls create a dressy/casual juxtaposition.

Your new black flat Euro sandals would be PERFECTION!!!

I also like chewyspaghetti’s idea of going edgy — pearls and combat boots, channel Vivienne Westwood.

But maybe it would also help to think about what drew you to the jeans in the first place? What kind of looks did you imagine creating with them when you bought them? Knowing what you’ve learned about your style in the years since, do those looks still appeal? Or could you think of a way to tweak them subtly so that they feel more right? (I’m thinking about your recent realization that optic white footwear is not for you but cream is dead right. Is there a similar thought to be had about styling these jeans?)

I have a lot of questions, haha.

I would not wear it with anything feminine or fancy. I like CarolS idea to wear it with white sneakers and a white sweater. I also would try it with black boots, white shirt and a black cardigan/blazer/ sweatshirt.
I see so many possibilities - navy oversized sweater and white platform sneakers (I think you have a pair of refined ones).

Hmm . The Pinterest photos are good - very helpful . Now here’s the rub: I don’t own any white shirts , sweaters, etc but forgot I own platform white sneakers - haha. I honestly didn’t have anything in mind when I bought them - which was not my usual way to shop . It’s not like they were a fortune but I wouldn’t mind trying to get some wear out of them . Black combat boots would be great - and that’s something I *can* justify buying a new pair of ( my current pair are a little blingy for these jeans - cue Rhinestone Cowboy ) . Great ideas friends , thanks very much !

Instead of highlighting the pearls, maybe think of them as a discreet accent? As a start, I’d nix anything that an 18-year-old with long, shiny hair might choose to wear with a pair of pearl-embellished jeans. My preference would be to up the sophistication level of by avoiding any hint of “girlish” or “Zara-trendy”. Instead, for me, I’d counter the glitz factor going to the opposite side—perhaps a camel coat, impeccably white T, and sleek black boots? Or a black blazer with a black tank and classic black sneakers with a white sole to pick up the pearls? In other words, I’d think of these jeans as the spark in an otherwise very tailored, very strict, classic look.

I’m not very creative so I’d go simple, Black blazer/jacket and black boots. The pearls are an accent, not the main event

I would style them with sneakers (we call them trainers in the UK). Stan smith style ones, or Vejas. I would probably put a white or cream T-shirt on top, a graphic one would be fine plus cardigan if needed. You could find a cardi with pearl style buttons, though might be a bit too much...

You could also go with espadrilles as I think they would look cute together or flatforms/platform sandals.

I’d pair them with booties and a slightly slouchy cashmere sweater, or a refined tee or blouse with a blazer — maybe with sleeves scrunched. I would downplay the feminine vibe a little with a bit of edge, perhaps with a lug soled boot, or as was mentioned, an outfit with the McQueen skull scarf. I’d keep it all relatively simple though, and I’d echo the pearl color in white pieces like patterned scarf or top or even light boots (I wouldn’t go as matchy as pearls in the outfit except maybe a simple single pearl ring). An opportunity for your new cream complement…

Lots of good advice. Nix the usual jewelry since there’s enough bling here already. I’m *sure* you have enough wonderful things in your closet to pair with these already. They’re nearly neutral. Would love to see an outfit lab!

I think your jeans are fabulous! I probably would wear them with a pretty white support act - for Summer, a white shirt and sandals with a white sole. For winter - a cosy knit and boots.

From memory - do you have a blue, taupe and cream striped sweater that we saw in Spring? Does that work with these jeans and your new cream boots?

Lisa - Do you have pearl jewelry? Earring, necklace, bracelet? I would see them with a faux tuck white sweater and white booties or booties with white soles. A white denim jacket. Maybe a blue and white stripped shirt with navy tank underneath and pearl necklace if you have it or earrings. I also would like them with black or black and white booties like the frame with a black tank and blazer and pearl jewelry which would smarten them up for nice casual. I'd personally make them special but highlighting the pearls.

Nothing wrong with rhinestone cowboy Madonna-anno-2001, if that's what you mean! Y2K is coming back in fashion also! Would love to see these on you too. I am thinking a thick black turtle neck. Maybe half tucked? To let the pants be the star of the outfit:-D and black elegant boots! Very euro chic, if you ask me!
