Styling a holiday skirt

Hello YLF friends, It's been a WHILE since my last post and I have been regrettably absent from the forum. I am making an effort to lurk less and post more.
I am reaching out to all of you for some holiday styling advice.....I recently purchased a silver jacquard pencil skirt and Angie's recent post on the lace pencil skirt got me thinking.....
I'm having a hard time deciding exactly what to wear with this one....it's not lace and it has a bit of a sheen to it. Honestly, it reminds me of an old curtain or sofa....but there's something about it I love.
It's a bit long for me, so I'm going to tailor it to knee length.
Any thoughts on what I could wear on top?

I think it's beautiful. I also have a real love of curtain and sofa fabrics:)

There are quite a few options for toppers. White crisp shirt. Simple black fine knit sweater. Dressy Tee.

I love it! What about a silk wrap blouse in any of the skirt's colors, plus a big chunky strand or two of pearls?

I love the idea of pearls. I love the skirt too! It seems that there has been a lot of brocade-type stuff out recently--I love this style.

I think I would keep the top simple, whatever you choose to go with it. I think that having black in the ensemble would be a no-brainer, because it really makes the pattern in the skirt stand out.

Lovely skirt!

I would wear it with a black or white or even cobalt silky button down shirt, buttoned right to the top with a chunky necklace over the collar. For shoes I would choose pointy toe black pumps. I would go with or without a hose.

I would try and get a picture later when I get to my laptop.

A simple top with moto jacket to add some edge to the curtain/sofa print.

I have a vest with a similar baroque-ish print that I'm having a hard time styling. I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I'd pair it with a thicker leather belt and a flowy pussy-bow blouse in a colour complimentary to either the darker or the lighter pattern of the skirt - great pick, by the way!

I hear you on the attraction to textiles that seem like they'd be on a curtain, sofa, bedspread...but we love what we love, right?

All great ideas upthread. It has a retro feel that you can play up or down, and of course you can experiment with color big-time if you like the contrast.

I am currently in "bedazzle it!" mode so if you wanted to turn away from sleek you *could* try to find a black, cream, or silver sequined top. Hey: it *is* for the holidays!

You wear red so well, so a soft angora sweater in your favourite red is my suggestion.

For a more fancy event, I would go with a silk black or cobalt blouse, nice kitten heel pumps.
For a more casual ocasion you can wear:
- a simple white tee, black moto jacket, booties
- a chunky white or grey sweater, black oxfords

How do button downs work for you? If they do, I think a crisp black or a crisp white would be fab. A silky top might work as well.

Personally, I love the skirt, and was eyeing up something similar. I was planning to pair it with a cashmere sweater to keep me warm! I beleive you are in a warmer climate, so perhaps a wrap top or a fine guage sweater would work well for you.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! I had the day off today so I went shopping and found a beautiful fine knit black sweater as Deborah had suggested. I think I can wear it with different bottoms and dress it up or down. I love the feel of the fabric and detail on the back. Can't wait to wear it!
