I have never come up with a style moniker, and I would love to hear opinions. I do have several words I’m pondering. Mermaid, because of colors it evokes, playful, because I have little children and I need to dress in a way that I can move and have fun with them, polish, because I’m really not happy in super casual clothes usually. Ideas and opinions welcome!

I am not an expert but Colourful Classic came to mind looking at your outfits above...

or you could do Polished Mermaid...

hmmm....and this reminds me why i'm not good with style monikers....columbine, IMO i dont see mermaid because when i hear mermaid i think of tight, sexy clothing. ..of course i'm old enough and dont have kids so i totally missed the disneyfication of the mermaid...

These all seem to be quite different from a style perspective. Which type of outfit do you wear the most?

I don’t see mermaid in the first outfit at all, so perhaps you need a moniker that is wider in scope?

I see a bit of mermaid in the second one because of the lace, and in the third outfit because of the colours and floatiness.

Coming back to say that I do see playful in the first outfit, for sure, so Playful or Cheerful or Happy or Whismical (as TG mentions) would be some words that come to mind.

I see Polished Playful as mentioned by above by several posters. There is color play and layers and interesting adornment (ruffles and lace), with a level of refinement (polish) applied. These words are subjective so pick the ones that resonate with you. If mermaid denotes these aspects to you, than it’s the right one for you. It is supposed to help us with our wardrobe and outfit building so whatever provides the image in your mind works.

Sorry to keep bugging you but I forgot that you get a moniker PLUS an extra 5 words! So I would suggest a more generic moniker and keep “mermaid” as one of your 5 words.

I think classic has to be in there as a descriptor because that is what unites these 3 outfits.

I also think the moniker thing can be difficult to do first. For me, the adjectives come first and then the moniker. So maybe going at it that way will help. Think about what you aspire to in all your outfits or what is common to them all.

For the moniker, imagine you are playing a part in the world as you go through your day. How do you want the world to see you? What do you want others to notice?

Rachylou, I like Polished Playful, and it sounds like others do as well.

Kkards, I do see the problem with mermaid. I don't do bodycon. I think of the words for the colors it evokes and that's all, I think. I won't use it in a moniker, I don't think.

Mainelady, I do love a good pattern. I will think about that. I think I wear only solid color outfits rarely, and I hadn't realized that.

TG, whimsical classic. Hmm. I'll have to think about that one.

Toban, it does seem like Polished Playful came to mind for many.

Smittie, yes, I'll keep mermaid as one of the five words, but not use it in a moniker. Your comment about needing a moniker wider in scope, reminded me that I didn't represent retro here in my outfits at all, but it is something I enjoy and would like to do more of. Something to ponder.

Thank you, Angie, I'm considering your suggestions carefully. Suz also pointed out that classic is an important element.

I think I'm down to Playful Polish and Romantic Classic. I can combine those and get something like, romantic and playful polish. Style words to ponder: classic, mermaid, whimsy or maybe retro, and color-rich.

Maybe use Ocean as an adjective, if those are the colors you love? And I heartily agree with what Suz said about adjectives are easier than moniker. I missed yesterday’s blog post so jumped straight into adjectives today, then used them to work on a moniker.

Karen, that’s a good idea. I like the mystery evoked by Mermaid, but my primary interest in the word is about color.
