Style breakthrough...at last: A MIDI for me and amazing sandals!

So, I've been feeling restless with my style this year. I've really been feeling the need for a change, but I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly where I'm going yet. I've experimented with some new looks--"edgy" (moto boots/jacket) and "soft" (cream blazer)--but I haven't been quite sure how everything is going to come together into a new look....that is, until now!

This soft ink blue midi skirt (Vince Camuto) and sandals (also VC) arrived in the mail Thursday afternoon, and as soon as I put them on I knew I had made a breakthrough in my style journey. I LOVE this new look! I feel sleek and arty and even a wee bit edgy. Both of these items are way out of my comfort zone and yet they feel completely natural...like this is the direction I should be headed. I don't even know what to call this look. All I know is that I love the proportion of the longer skirt with the loose top, and that these are the coolest sandals I've ever owned.

Wow the skirt is lovely and so versatile, it looks great tucked and untucked the sandals are so cool.

Nancy, these are amazing pieces and they look absolutely fantastic with your own stuff. I totally see the style breakthrough here, and I LOVE it! You do indeed look sleek, arty, and a wee bit edgy! The sandals look awesome with your hair, and they will go with everything, and the skirt is TDF.

You look wonderful in that skirt and the sandals look great with every version. I like all of the looks, but the ink blue top is certainly the most dramatic. You've definitely hit on a style that works for you.

Nancy, I wanted to ask: Is that the VC midi tube skirt from Nordstrom? I have been tempted to buy a skirt like this, and you might be pushing me right over the edge :).

Thanks, everyone! I'm feeling so great about this. Midi's escaped me when they first came out last year....every one I tried on looked frumpy and stiff...but this one is amazing both in comfort and silhouette. Maybe it was just a matter of finding the right one. As far as the new look for me, I've always admired Jean's (Greenglove) style and feel this is somewhat close to her look. It just feels right for me.

Jonesy, it is the VC tube skirt on sale at Nordstrom. Go for it! (I also bought one in black and am wishing/hoping they have it in wine for fall)

Sorry for another question...I usually wear a 10 in bottoms but am somewhat leery of ordering the M (8-10)...does it run TTS, a little loose, snug?

Hmmm. I'd say it runs pretty TTS, Jonesy. I'm usually a 4 in skirts and a 6 in dresses and the Small (4-6) fits me perfectly. I've been trying on a lot of VC lately and am learning that I'm between sizes with his cut. A straight 4 is a little too small and a 6 is a little too big.

Thanks so much! I wish the L was a 10-12, then I would feel better. I don't really wear an 8, nor a 14, so I'm slightly puzzled. Might order both since there is free shipping :).

That sounds like a good idea, Jonesy. It was easier for me since the sizing broke the right way.

Love, love, love this skirt! I was shopping with a friend of mine who needed a whole new work wardrobe and she bought this skirt in the navy, brown & black! The length on the regular was off on me or I would have done the same. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get more colors in the petites.

Anyway...this is a SUPERB look for you. I absolutely adore this silhouette on you. The slim fitted bottom with a breezy, loose shirt makes you look effortlessly fab. Those sandals are beyond cool and just perfect with the rest of the outfit. Yay for style breakthroughs!!

There's no picture of the back of this skirt at the Nordstrom site - does it have a vent or slit?

Laura, no slit or vent but it is really stretchy. There is a very slight ruching at this hips but hardly noticeable.
