Style Book Questions

I just bought Style Book. My first reaction was that I should have bought it years ago. I sincerely love it.

I have a question.

Do you worry about backups? Is it possible you could invest your time and effort to lose everything because of technical malfunction?

Now ... why I think Style Book may be superior to my beloved spreadsheets. Using Style Book, I can see at a glance the exact items and numbers I have in every single category. It is enlightening in a way just counting numbers is not.

I would love to start using Style Book to calculate cost per wear, but if I insert the cost of the item, Style Book starts calculating based on number of wears going forward. I have not figured out how to add in the historic number of wears, thus resulting in incorrect data. Has anyone figured out how to address this?

Great question! I just let it figure CPW from the date I input an item, knowing some items actually have lower CPW than calculated. This is okay with me because I am not very concerned with this or actual number of wears. I am more interested in my wearing trends; types of clothing with many wears (for me, jeans and casual, neutral flat shoes, booties, and sneakers).
I suggest contacting Stylebook help. I had a question a while ago and remember them being responsive.
My favorite part is the visual calendar of WIWs. Also appreciate that you can add multiple looks for an individual day, although only one shows up on the monthly calendar.

I did not realize I can add multiple "Looks" per day.

Re cost per wear, how about entering the item's current cost per wear figure rather than how much it actually cost to buy?

I considered that, Sarah. I was thinking that future calculations would be inaccurate and biased. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Maybe you could reverse-engineer a number by figuring our how many more wears you anticipate and a reasonable cost per wear that you'd like to attain (and one that is demonstrated by previous wear history)--then the number would cruise towards zero at a planned rate.

ETA: Wasn't it Anchie who wrote a long post on the number of wardrobe items per category and their planned refresh rate? This would be a similar starting point.

I'll see if I can find Anchie's earlier post. I do like the idea of reverse engineering though. Interesting exercise. It would highlight the difference between the number of wears I assume I should get versus reality.

Just for the record. I am loving StyleBook. I found out how to back it up so that concern is gone. I'll be adding my entire wardrobe.

Sterling I htink it backs up if you back up your device to a computer... and might to the cloud as well - the whole cloud thing has be vert confused. My big worry was what was going to happen when I got a new ipad, but it came over like a dream.

I didn't worry about cost per wear on my old items... I just do it going forward.

That is what I am ultimately going to do, Elizabeth. No cost per wear for older items. Cost per wear for all new items going forward.

Right now, I am playing with Style Book by inserting and organizing my wardrobe. The pictures and categories are so helpful. I have always organized my spreadsheets according to activity such as "work," "casual," "athletic," or "lounging." That means a sleeveless top can cross multiple spreadsheets and I never really know how many I actually own. Now at a glance I can see the exact number I own. Amazing.

The bad thing is that Style Book calendar is going to clearly document those clothing items just don't get worn. By this, I mean I love them enough to keep them, but always reach for something else to wear.

Closet size can be a problem. You love everything, but there are not enough days in the year to wear everything that you love. Something else to consider going forward.

I used to think of myself as a minimalist. I am clearly not a minimalist.

I have figured out the back up thing.

I have uploaded all bottoms, tops, shoes, and bags! It honestly did not take long because I had a picture or stock photo of every item in my wardrobe (yes, I am obsessive).

This app is so good! I have not yet abandoned my beloved spreadsheets, but I can see a day in the future when that might happen. THAT is saying a lot.
