Chris987 - I agree with the thrift store assessment. I can never figure out how and where anyone finds the good stuff.

Brooklyn - my favourite sweater of the past year or so is cotton, and I didn't even realize it until I looked at the label recently to figure out what it was made of so I could replicate it. Ha. It's a very densely woven fine gauge brushed cotton with a bit of a drape, and totally warm enough for winter here.

Thank you all, for the outfit approval. You know when something just clicks while you are putting it together ? Best feeling ever I wore that sweater all day for work, and it showed not one hint of stretching out, wasn't at all itchy, and no sign of pilling starting. Best $35 I've spent in ages !

As to the ebay order - the seller has 5 star reviews and bills her/himself as a closet cleaning reseller of designer goods. The scarf I ordered is apparently new with tags. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't bought many clothes on Ebay. On the times I did, I received as advertised. I think your sweater outfit looks great and the earrings and glasses together look good to me. Knitwear at affordable price point is hard to find in good quality I think. I bought some washable wool v-neck sweaters from BR last year. They are just okay. I do like them because they are thin and streamlined, and layerable. The good thing about my climate -- I rarely break out the sweaters so they stay in good condition for years.

Great tonal outfit! So glad you pulled the trigger on that scarf, you have missed it dearly. I have the exact same rule and never ever wear earrings with glasses! Since I am a permanent wearer of glasses (and I like them on the funkier side, thus there is enough going on on my face anyway), I have completely given up on earrings. It wasn't hard, as they were not a big part of my style. I do have and wear a lot of other jewelry though.

You look amazing in every way. I am particularly partial to the muted animal print with your coloring. So good.

Oh my gosh...you look great!! I always wear earrings with glasses, but I've had them since 4th grade. I looked at your pics bf I read and had to look again--I didn't even see your earrings the first time, so I'd definitely say it's not too much. I.want.your.coat!!!

yay for finding the scarf, and in Canada at that! everytime I look for something on ebay, I get lost down a rabbit hole, never find what I'm looking for, but manage to lose an hour of my time

love the stripe sweater...and the coat is FAB!

This is a perfect, perfect colour palette. You look great! I'm never bothered by specs+earrings.

You're so cool! Gorgeous example of an interesting, fab outfit in neutrals!

I couldn't wear it. But you certainly can, and I enjoy seeing how you own it.

Oh Lisa, I'm so happy you are replacing that scarf! You clearly need it.

I've bought a few things on eBay, and have had no trouble at all. the only "incident" I had was a package going missing (the EF Coax booties gryffin raves about) which was heartbreaking. But the seller was great about reporting it, and going through the paperwork hoops, and we both got our money back. We guess some US Postal employee is now enjoying them.

And your outfit looks wonderful. Others above have better words than I as to why.

Oh, and I always wear earrings. And sometimes glasses. Never crossed my mind that was too much! Probably because when I put on my jewellery I'm not wearing glasses Oh well... not going to change that anyway, my earrings are too much part of my style, and my glasses are... well... becoming more and more necessary.

Oh, I meant to add, I hope that the scarf is a smashing success! Sounds like a good ebay seller, and I know how you've missed that scarf.

Leg lengthening be damned. I love your slouchy 80s sweater & all else with this outfit.
I think earrings & glasses look great together on you and I have a soft spot for resin and lucite jewelry.

WOOHOOO. Earth tones.

LOVE the leopard coat with your hair and complexion, Lisa p. You look KILLER amazing in shades of brown. No more solid grey!

Very fun 2018 pattern mix. Earrings with the specs is a smashing change. Maximal fabness.

Happy you bought your very missed scarf. That would make a total of FIVE patterns in this outfit. Why the heck not!

And SOOOOO with you on not buying pricey-to-me knitwear any more. I’ve had it. High five. Buying cashmere from Boden and COS - and that’s it on the pricier items.

Btw, H&M might be fast fashion, but they are one of the more sustainable companies. Slow Fashion like Chanel is one of the LEAST sustainable companies at the moment. The irony of it all.

Thank you , Angie. Pattern mixing is so much easier with fall clothes. And you're right about H&M being one of the better fast fashion distributors - which is some small comfort . I'll be missing my annual fall cashmere purchases this fall, but enough is enough. Happy with less-costly alternatives that wear better.

Elizabeth - I'm laughing at you and your earrings and glasses. Not sure if any of it makes sense, but I think I know what you mean

LOL... I didn't mean that I get dressed blindly, if that's how it sounded. I need glasses for reading, so I put earrings on without thinking of glasses at all, but then when I get to work they often get added.

Oh, and thanks for pointing out that H&M are more sustainable than some. Good to know, as I didn't.

What an awesome look! Love everything about it, and look forward to hearing your amazing scarf success story

My fav cozy sweater is 3-yr old from H&M. I just pulled it out for the season and it still looks and feels great. Best $20 spent. (And, I’m running out today for yours!)

Beautiful! Simple, elegant. There is a continuum in the color scheeme that is very peaceful. Love it on you!

Wow. I find this a really great look for you. The right amount of edge.
