In L'Abeille's recent thread there was a suggestion to write about Street Style in your town. So I will note my observations down:

It is the last day of autumn here- the really cold weather is mostly still to arrive. What are people wearing?

- Lots of interesting flat shoes - brogues/loafers/flatforms/sneakers in a range of colours - white, metallic, colourful, black

- Still mostly skinny jeans, there are a few culottes around. Very few bootlegs or full length flares. Denim is blue, grey or white right now.

- Khaki and olive green are making their way back in, and there is a bit of cobalt around. Autumn shades are making a reappearance (rusts/browns/tans). Blush pink is still around but possibly a bit oversaturated.

- Men's wear is becoming much more colourful and interesting - stylish chino's, groomed beards and hair, sharp sneakers and leather shoes, bags and fitted jackets and sweaters.

- Very few people wearing tall boots.

- Interesting sunglasses - colourful frames, bold shapes, mirrored lenses.

It's very very quiet fashion wise, right now. I don't simply mean casual; I mean QUIET. Even at this Decorator Showcase last week, where once you'd see society ladies in genuine designer and Alien Face, nada. All plain black blazers and ivory cotton sweaters. Maybe a scarf from the museum store.

This is a great topic. Although there is snow near-by, a sunny ( but cool) day brings out flip-flops and other sandals, sleeveless knit tops, short shorts, but still lots of long pants. I am seeing few wide pants and lots of distressing. This is puffer jackets with shorts and sandals weather. Lots of long sleeved plaid flannel shirts are being worn as jackets by younger women. Surprisingly, I have only seen one pair of boots in the past couple of weeks. They were brown, worn with distressed black leggings and shorts.

Joy - interesting re the plaid shirts, they have not really featured strongly here. Puffer jackets must be one of the most successful clothing inventions - so popular aren't they!

I would add that while it is autumn, here it is not common to dress particularly in autumn colours. There are colours that tend to be worn more in summer and others in winter, but not especially in spring and fall.

I live in North Central Texas. Very rural. I see basics and western-boho. I work on the northern fringes of the DFW metroplex, and there I see a lot of Texas bling. I don't know how to describe Texas bling except to say you could probably see it in a lot of country and western videos.

I adore the idea of Texas bling too! No idea what it is, but would really love some of the cowboy boots in those pics Sally. No, I say sternly to myself. Too many boots already

I want to see Texas bling. In fact, I want to do Texas bling.
I am seeing lots of boots and lots of black (including on me, ha ha!). I was seeing a lot of people wearing culottes up until about a month ago, but they have disappeared now with the cooler weather. Still some cropped pants around, but the more narrow kind.
Oh, and I saw Angie's twin on the street the other day: a slim blonde woman with a pixie hair cut wearing cropped gingham pants, ivory semi- fitted sweater and pearls. She looked so much like Angie I did a double take.

To answer the original question: still seeing skinny pants, not wide pants. Seeing ankle boots, not long boots, and many interesting flat shoes. Plenty of jeans still, not particularly cropped or flared, maybe straight and plain mostly. In the young they are often distressed with holes etc. and still more likely to be skinny. Olive and burgundy and rust coming into play the past 2 months. And tan, plus the quintessential Kiwi black.

I find autumn in Brisbane intriguing to watch! Because it never gets cold, and is so rarely even cool, many people seem to get very confused about what to wear. This week I saw a lot of young women on campus wearing thick heavy jumpers, very short shorts and thongs/flip flops. It looked like one half of the body would be hot, and the other cold.
In terms of denim, it's skinnies or shorts all the way. I have only seen culottes a few times, and then not amongst the younger students.
What I do notice is a lot less use of leggings as pants than there was last year. I thought that look had become ubiquitous, but now I wonder if it wasn't a trend. I mean, it's still around, but it's nowhere near as common as it was on campus.

This is such a great topic.

I pay a lot of attention to street fashion in the downtown area (formalish-office wear) and the malls (teenage splendor). Although cropped pants abound, almost all are skinny (teens) or straight (office). No culottes, flared or wide anything (that I see).

More separates and significantly less suits (although I do still see the occasional skirted suit) in the downtown area.

What surprises me is that I do see some evidence of the naked shoulder (mostly on the teens). Not a big percentage, but it is still present.

Lots of jeans (teens). White jeans are showing up in the sea of blue jeans.

Light colored footwear are everywhere. Black footwear has all but disappeared from the landscape.

I live in small-town northern New England. We've had a long, cold, rainy spring punctuated by a few gloriously sunny, warm days. The most striking aspect of people's attire is the seasonal confusion. Flip flops or Birks with puffers, etc.

I spotted my first cold-shoulder top in the wild just the other day -- solid navy blue and body-con (could even have been a bodysuit!), worn with denim cut-offs and flip-flops.

The most surprising local "trend" I've noticed is the predominance of skater skirts as soon as it's warm enough. Swishy skirts, either solid or floral, that hit above the knee seem to be *the* skirt silhouette right now. Not something I've seen mentioned in any style blogs/fashion mags, so I'm guessing it was big elsewhere about 5 years ago. I'm not seeing many midis and the only maxis I see are true boho (aging hippie) stylings.

Footwear seems to be an even split between flat sandals (mostly Birkenstocks and flip flops), sneakers, and ankle boots. Oh -- and lots of cute wellies, Hunters, Bogs, and Blundstones on days when it's cold and wet. Jeans are still skinny and gear leggings are their only real competition. Because of the rain, jackets are almost all Gore-Tex or similar.

I want to see what Cindy calls Texas bling, too. I have my own opinions, but having lived here all my life I have no doubt my viewpoint is skewed. I may not even actually see it as Texas bling, just normal!

"Street style" for me is super difficult. It seems such an urban concept. Nearly my entire county is suburban or rural. So I'm not sure what to describe. What I see in the neighborhood? At work? At church? Grocery shopping? Mall shopping? Nothing very fashionable, except at church. Mostly lots of boho, and some cropped pants. Jeans are still skinnies; the only flares I've seen are on women my age, and I suspect have been worn since college instead of being new iterations. Lots of athleisure when shopping. It's been a warm spring so everyone's been in full summer dressing mode for a month.

We just bounced off a Seattle heatwave so my hood was in shorts and tees. I wore dresses.

It runs the gamut around here (urban Seattle). You see it all, just about. Lots of ankle baring bottoms, and non-heeled footwear. People in gear, jeans, fashion sneakers, sandals, sandal booties, flat oxfords, jackets, tattoos, chinos, Birkies, body piercings, neutrals, cut-off shorts, rainbow hair, and hoodies. Fewer skirts and dresses. Casual. I'm usually the only one in pastels and brights, and always more dressed up.

It is very common to see "ladies that lunch" wearing yoga outfits with a designer bag and make-up. That's the ladies-that-lunch uniform. Sometimes with children in tow.

It's been cold and grey in Boston recently so still lots of early spring wear. Ubiquitous North face jackets and the occasional trench. LOTS of sneakers of all sorts (more bright colors and black than white for a change). Ankle pants or rolled skinnies. Bare ankles. Ballet flats.

When we had a heat wave I saw a lot of culottes! Usually worn with a tucked in boxy top and flats.

Texas Bling - Ha, just walk into any Dillards store and you'll likely see loads of this (in TX at least). Think of sparkle metallic thread added to most any type of feminine blouse, fake rhinestones on jean pockets. Tight jeans. High heels or cowboy boots, sometimes high heeled cowboy boots - with embellishments of course. A good dose of lacy Boho too. Cowboy boots with dresses. Handbags with embellishments. Bright colored lips. Bold big turquoise and silver jewelry. Rarely natural gray hair. Unless you have white hair, then yes. I see a lot of dyed red hair - usually somewhat bright in color. Red is a very popular choice. Full makeup on most who are "dressed" at least.

Above is not so much in my own rural Texas area, just a description of Texas Bling towards the bigger cities.

Here, when I do see bling, it's more like a rural version of the above. Lots of henna dyed or food colored red hair with the younger women out here (not sure exactly why, budget maybe?). Harsh makeup with visible foundation lines (many could use a lesson or two). The Dollar stores here seem to sell Texas bling fashions along side camo gear (or of course blinged out camo gear)- which makes for a fun visit with tourists. Lots of cold shouldered and off the shoulder tops now. Flip flops and sandals rule - sneakers not as much but more than before. A good dose of mostly black rock and roll tees on women, plaid shirts on men. No wide cropped pants, and really no high waisted pants spotted here yet in the wild.

Oh my word, and LEGGINGS. That's what most lady Millennials wear. And usually as pants. Guy Millennials often wear big baggy sports shorts.

Ha, Texstyle - you've described New Mexico style to a T. We have lots of Texas bling here too. Santa Fe is nearby so we also have hipsters and arty types in bright colors, turquoise jewelry, and patchouli. I also see lots of gear, sneakers, flip-flops, sundresses, and shorts.

Just returned to office after a quick errand and took a look. Location: Milan (not the central edgy area but a more suburban area). Temperature : 30° C. Seen: dressy tees + lightweight pants (skinny or cropped) + flat sandals, or Summer dresses + flat sandals. Light colors. I think that 30 degrees do not leave you much choice ...

Lots of tight sweatpants among teen boys and young men.

Lots of white converse.

Slowly, I'm seeing more 1990's round, wire rim glasses. My 12year old daughter thinks they're really cool.

In Montreal, the rage are super round Harry Potter style glasses in tortoiseshell or plastic. This is just beginning to infiltrate my town. I LOVE this trend!

Lots of blousy cold shoulder tops.

Not much in the way of Stan smiths though.

DC is known for it's conservative wear with mostly JCrew / Banana Republic work wear and Tory Burch flats. That's what I see at work.

Outside of work in weekends (and I live in the city), I see lots of exercise wear , t shirts and skinny jeans. Not much of arty hipster types in the area which would make things more interesting.

Interesting observations-

Trends
- Flat shoes and sneakers
- leggings/athleisure
- skinny jeans still ruling but some variations coming in
- shoulder baring/cold shoulder

I think it is a more city concept to look at street style, because in a rural or suburban setting people are in cars a lot more. I am always fascinated by which trends hang around and which fade quickly.

It is also interesting the regional trends - Skater skirts in La Pedestrienne's neck of the woods, South West Bling style in New Mexico and Texas.

However the most common look for women (from teenagers upwards) here is a black puffer jacket, with leggings or skinny jeans and some sort of trainers (fashion or gear). This is worn by almost every second person on a Saturday.

I went on a school trip with my 12 year old this week. They wear uniform but I noticed of the approximately 30 girls, all had long hair, Short hair/bobs etc were not evident at all. His school is very multicultural so there were children of Indian, Pakistani,Chinese, Pacifika, Japanese, Korean, South American, South African, Maori, Arabic and European ethnicities.

Downtown Toronto financial district the guys are the showier birds with shrunken suits, colourful socks that co-ordinate with ties, polished brogues, and really groomed hair and beards. The immaculate fade rules!

For women the black ankle pant with ballet flat is ubiquitous. Add dressy top of choice. Skirts and dresses short, with above knee tan trench over, and no skirt showing below. Ballet flats for the most part, though I'm starting to see a lot of loafers this spring.

Closer to the big downtown mall there is more colour and variety as shoppers mix it up with office workers on lunch. The full crops/gaucho with rounded toe and block heel and off the shoulder/cold shoulder. Guys in full on athleisure (sweat suits and ball caps) line up outside the sneaker head boutique.

A lot of ordinary capris and t-shirts or jeans with fleece jacket (tourist) with sneakers or gear sandals and youngsters (high school) in distressed denim and hoodie. Birks and really flat sandals/flip flops very popular.

Hair seems to be mostly long, straight, and dark. Some dreads. Side cuts still popular.

Texas bling as I see it is 1 part "redneck fancy" (like the first 8 pics) (and yes, I really see people carrying those blinged out cross on camo purses and wearing those blinged out foam platform flip-flops still). There's nothing wrong with people wearing those foam platform flip-flops or very embellished cowgirl boots, or carrying their Jesus-bling purses; it's just not me at all. My biggest problem with all that bling and embellishment is that I often see women wearing a big blinged out necklace and bracelet, while carrying a blinged out cross on camo (not very well) concealed carry purse while wearing tight shiny clothes and overly embellished footwear. It's hard to figure out where to look first with a look that has that much going on.

And it's 1 part of something as best embodied by Sue Rawlings (wife of Richard Rawlings of "fast n loud" fame on TV, see 9th pic, the rest are other examples of the type of high end Texas bling I see at work and yes some of those are the real housewives of Dallas but that's the look I see a lot). There's nothing wrong with this look, it's just kind of the antithesis of my personal tastes LOL because it's very colorful.

Disclaimer: to be fair to the DFW metroplex, I also see a not-statistically-insignificant number of people who kind of fit a hipster vibe or something, because they're into organics and local products and wear ethically/sustainably produced clothing that is kind of normcore. So it isn't all "redneck fancy" or "over-the-top Real Housewives of Wherever" but that's what makes the biggest impression on my visual receptors in my brain

And sal, those are good pictures of what I see a lot around where I live. We have a cowboy Church in almost every little town around here and I imagine that those outfits would be right at home in cowboy Church.

Angie - I know, it is all long hair. When I was a teenager there was a multitude of styles - short, long, permed, straight.....And most of my friends also have long hair and they are mostly in their 40s.

Cindy - thanks for your visuals and your descriptions. I want to visit Texas now too. There is a Real Housewives look here too, but not strongly.

And chiming back to Brooklyn - please do Texas Bling for us!!

I sat outside a Starbucks the other day ( in a " swish" neighborhoud ) and notice those climbing out of their Range Rovers were wearing off-the shoulder blouses and cropped khakis or jeans, and with mules. I have to admit to liking one of those outfits and just may cave and buy one of those tops despite swearing I wouldn't . Spotted a cold shoulder blouse on a woman having a first-date drink at the local pub another day last week, and more suede mules. I'm on the hunt for some new footwear to wear on a 3-day trip to Brooklyn later in June , and have decided that a block heel (low) suede mule just might be it. But other than that day - nothing of interest spotted on people out and about.

Off the shoulder can work brilliantly, like with anything it is all in the actual piece and styling of it.

We travelled to Knoxville last week and it seemed like everyone was wearing cold shoulder tops. Haven't seen those as much here in CO yet.

Summer at last arrived, but today the rain is pouring.
My window overlooks one of the busy central, but not posh streets of the town. So long I registered pastel/neutral colored rain jackets and light short puffers, one long flowing black trench coat (worn with black heels and skirt), one long ornate colorful cardigan, pencil skirts/pants in neutrals and black, jeans and various sneakers and ballet flats on young, comfort shoes with low heel or ballet flats on mature women (think brand rieker), a young hipster in full dandy attire - yellow pants and straw boater hat included, one women in jeans, white sneakers and pink jumper, another in jeans, puffer and sneakers all black except sneakers, and one in sports suit black with neon pink decor with extremely bleached long hair, all kinds and colors of umbrellas!
I would say that at a day time the dominating style in my age group (30-40) is busines casual.
Young people in posh parts of town sport all kinds of trendy wear, unnatural colored hair, undercuts, dreadlocks, piercings and tattoos in all "alternative" styles from goth to everything oversized rap wear.
Cardigans or coatigans are very popular on all age groups in our ever changing weather.

I have yet to see any bootcut, flares o cut flares on anybody, I think I saw several cullottes since the trend started.

Oh and this is a capital town of one Northern Europe countries, but not scandi
