This is a fun thread. Where I live (Muskoka) I have not seen much of anything except Yoga clothing. It has been raining for weeks. Everyone is wearing raincoats and looking miserable. The "summer people" (people who own cottages, tourists, etc.) are appearing but I haven't noticed anything of interest. I did see a young woman walking the trials near our house during a brief sunny period in Yoga leggings with a bug shirt. The bugs are really bad.
I am also teaching for a couple of months in Hamilton at the University. I saw a lovely young woman in a long black dress over skinnies. She had black mules on. The dress was sleeveless and flowy. Her hair was in a chignon. Great look. I have seen some women in dressy shorts and nice tops. The shorts are about 3 inches long and have cuffs. The shorts look like they are part of a suit. The tops are loose t shirts. I think the women are wearing ballet flats. I saw similar shorts on Meagan Markle.
I have also seen embroidered jeans. I saw a very nice pair that had blue flowers on them and were a BF style. The woman had on a nice linen sweater.
Everywhere I look I see long hair. Some women put it in a top knot. I am not sure if that is the right word. Make up is very subtle.
The only cropped wide legged pants out there are on me.

He he. I could definitely do the bling. I am not sure how Texan it would be. My mum is very blingy. She has a cabinet with diamanté handles. Bling is in my genes.
And I spoke too soon about the culottes being retired for winter. I saw a pair on the way home yesterday and several pairs today.

Skinny jeans, some Boho looks, colorful tops. On the 20's crowd, pink, purple streaks in hair and loads of tattoos. Longer hair is still more common.

Low shoes, lots of sneakers.

The weather here is finally warming up so styles will start to change too. I was finally able to go bare legged and wear dresses this week!!

I am still the only person I see wearing Eileen Fisher/Elizabeth Suzann type outfits LOL.

What a fun thread! I see lots of black (it never goes away in my area) and lots of sneakers, and flat, walkable footwear. Also, plenty of skinny jeans. On the younger set, I see leggings as pants and sweats. During the workweek I'll see lots of business casual outfits with sneakers that don't really go with the outfit (a gear sneaker not a fashion one) but I know those people are changing their shoes when they get to the office. one of the things I've noticed the most, big bags. Totes are everywhere and the bigger the better. I'll also see crossbody bags, but not too many shoulder bags and no one carrying a hand held bag. On most blogs that I follow I see all of these shoulder baring tops yet I haven't seen even ONE on the streets in my area yet. Although we are staying mostly cold, and wet thus far this season so that could be why.

Another thing I forgot to mention. Lots of cold shoulder tops when the weather was hot last week.

The think I notice most: Heels are VERY much in the minority. Flats and heels up to about an inch and a half rule the streets, social circles, restaurants, and most places you go actually - here and in Europe.

I need to go to TX and see the bling. My friend Meredith who has lived there describes it in exactly the same way as Cindy and Texstyle. Quite unique.

I really don't "see" this bling. I don't do it myself, but I was born here and I'm blind to it! Pretty much all of Cindy's pictures just look normal to me. (Although I see those bags everywhere in places like Sam Moon, but don't particularly notice people using them.) I did notice that one of the ladies I sing with in church choir does the big silver/turquoise jewelry, boots, etc bling thing, but mostly for the stock show time in February. They have a ranch, so I figure she's justified.

In the ATL, I'm seeing skinny jeans, slim ankle pants, cold shoulder tops, kimono jackets. Fewer sundresses and maxis this year and lots of short fit and flare dresses. Fewer sandal booties and more ballet flats with skinny tie straps. And it seems like EVERYONE is bobbing their hair.

Ginger, it kind of looks normal to me too after seeing it for so long. When I first arrived in Shreveport from Atlanta Georgia, it was kind of shocking to me. Shreveport is basically on the Texas line, so there's some commingling of culture. Shreveport ladies wear Texas bling and Texas people love crawfish boils. I do see less of the blinged out bags and shoes the closer I go to Dallas (which is where I go to do my serious clothes/shoe shopping) but where I work I still see it and where I live I see it a lot.

These folks out here where I live probably think I'm Satan or one of his minions when I run into town in one of my shredded sweaters and edgy black pants, because I definitely don't fit the societal norms for the area with my dystopian-minimalist aesthetic LOL

I saw a lady today wearing blingy bootcuts and a black cold shoulder top. She looked great and really stood out, because mostly what I see is people in uniform or people wearing brightly patterned running leggings as pants with a cropped athletic jacket and sneakers.

Colombine, Blingy bootcut jeans with a black top sounds like a reasonable way to do something blinged out and would probably strike me as a nice outfit even if bling isn't my thing. It's when ALL of the other bling & embellishment gets added in that it starts to befuddle me. It always makes me think of that time on Project Runway when they were critiquing a look and they were talking about how over the top it was; Heidi Klum says "I like it, but then again I'm sitting here wearing a pink disco ball" (and her dress was a short hot pink sparkly sequined fitted dress, which made me love her for her ability to make jokes at her own expense)

Cindysmith, haha, I commented before reading about Texas bling. I don't think I've seen that many times. I need to visit Texas sometime, only ever been there on layovers! Anyway, this lady I saw today looked quite refreshing amongst all the gear I usually see. I"m in CO.

People watching is one of life's free pleasures, if you can be in the right spot and the right mood.

I still remember being in my 20s in Spain and feeling poorly presented compared to the Spanish women with leather shoes and matching belts. And then wondering at how the Thai people kept their shirts so pristine and white when living in such crowded conditions. When you are travelling or on holiday you have the time to notice, and you can compare it to your norm.

I agree, Sal. There is something about traveling that really makes you notice the people/fashion/life styles. I analyze every aspect of what I see and thoroughly enjoy it. There are times when I remember the fashion/food more than I remember anything else. Much to my chagrin.

I am not living in a fashion Mecca. The most common wardrobe items seen here are College insignia shirts, hats, sweats, etc. Men and women dress very casually wherever they go. Athleisure is abundant. Maybe it isn't true althleisue, but athletic gear worn during leisure time. Finger spinners are everywhere!

Living on the border of two provinces, I witness two distinct street styles. They mirror the two solitudes we sometimes refer to when speaking of English and French cultures. Ok let's laugh a little. The following come from true observations, but are written tongue in cheek.

The Capital:
- LOTS of white oversize sneakers.
The attitude: Walking in the rain with dazzling white footwear.
What is seems to say: I know spring stood us up this year but I don't
care and I WILL wear my sneakers anyway, plus they cover my
whole feet, so...
- Some high block-heels ankle booties
  The attitude: Hey, I'm sexy.
What it seems to say: Hey, I'm sexy.
- I have seen more than once the gaucho cropped denim! Worn with previously mentionned booties and a simple top. It looks fantastic!
The attitude: Tall, fashionable, eye-catching. Very refreshing in these
corners of the woods. The wearer is usually getting out or getting in
her car, or sitting in a coffee shop.
  What it seems to say:

What? This is so natural for me!

- Pastel hair!
The attitude: usually younger woman with a round face, and straight,
medium length white and mauve hair. It might be a hipster thing as
some of them also sport thick black secretary specs.
What it seems to say: I'm cool and I don't care. Want to have coffee?
- Lots of elastic ankle cargo trousers too, both men and women.
The attitude: crossing the street, walking around, sulken expression,
  long dark flat hair, Converse...
What it seems to say: I don't give a flying f*** about the rest of the
world, leave me alone. And yes, I got those at Forever 21. Happy?   Now go!

On the Quebec side:
- The new trend of the moment: all bad-ass rocker girl with either of these: Verson A:

long limp large mesh pastel cotton sweater and fluffly, oversize and equally pale scarf, worn over tight, high-waist light wash skinny jeans, hem all the way down covering ankle and hi-top Converse in a washed out red hue.

Verson B:
- Fitted black tee with cap sleeves worn over dark denim skinny/straight jeans with the hem rolled up to uncover ankle, finished of with a pair of low-top Converse

in a washed out red hue.

The attitude: Recently seperated, basement was flooded by last month's heavy rains, but still hanging in there. Both versions are worn mostly by women over 30.

What it seems to say:

Hey, don't give up.

- Then you also have the classic "good girl" look still going strong: mid thigh tunic or sketer skirt worn over capri leggings (color, white or polka dots) and sensible footwear such as Birkenstock slip-ons, Danskos or, in the case of the more coquette ones, Miz Mooz wedge or platform sandals. Often accessorized with a scarf (young moms) or an eye-catching cocktail jewlry (sweet aunts).

The attitude: Busy young mom.
What it seems to say: I'm happy now in my young mom role, despite the lack of sleep, and my clothes choice reflect this. Everything is practical but I make an effort to keep it pretty: geometrical shapes, vivid colors... it keeps me awake!

Finally, the busy look: patch-work tunic with lots of details and assymetrical hemlines, worn over dark capri leggings and high heels. Complicated hairdos involving streaks and gravity defying layers; eye-catching cocktail jewlry. No scarf.
Attitude: Usually seen in groups walking towards the exit for a cigarette break.
What it says: I am still pretty, and I don't understand these young women wearing ugly non flattering footwear. I keep slim with diet and smoking (how else are you supposed to do it?). But in fact I'm really nice.

Krish! What a great read!

What is happening in my neck of the woods, Western Australia, in Autumn:

  • Jeans: cropped flares are happening, but skinnies reign supreme.
  • Boho style is still very popular.
  • Long pleated skirts are quite the thing at the moment if you feel like not wearing jeans.
  • If you wear gear and want to be trendy, then only Lululemon will do (and must be worn with a LV or Gucci handbag in tow, to make it look intentional).
  • Gucci GG belts and loafers are still popular.
  • Furry vests are the way to keep warm as the weather cools (over a white shirt and skinnies).
Overall: style is casual, but with some luxe touches. Long luscious locks are very important. Make up is mainly bronzer, a stronger eye and nude lip.

This post was inspired by talk about NYC, so I won't belabor what's happening here - especially since it's pretty much EVERYTHING.

But I will emphasize that EVERYONE is wearing sneakers, all the time. It's not hot enough yet that everyone has switched to sandals, but most people have put their boots away. Those Adidas Stan Smith sneakers in particular are ubiquitous.

I really enjoy reading all your comments. Thanks for starting this thread, Sal.

Here in Antwerp dresses are everywhere at the moment - which is unusual, generally jeans dominate the streets. It's because of our current heat 28-33 degrees is hot for Belgium
I'm seeing:

- Every style of dress from sheaths, shifts and fit-and-flare frocks to loose-fitting T-shirt dresses and (unbelted) shirt dresses. Often in neutral colours, not a lot of patterns and prints. Mid-thigh length to maxi.
- Breezy trousers like wide-leg linen pants, and track pant-esque styles in lightweight fabrics, both solids and patterns. Often worn with sleeveless lightweight blouses in cream or white (often a little see-through, people don't really mind that here - neither do I
- Short shorts worn with basic tees, tank tops and camis on the younger crowd.
- Some white jeans (mostly skinnies) and a pair of culottes here and there.
- Virtually everyone is sporting some sort of flat shoe. A few ballet flats, but mostly sandals (Birkies, and every other type of casual and dressy sandal) or fashion sneakers and more sportier sneaker styles. Mainly in neutral colours and metallics.
- Not a lot of scarves at the moment (because of the heat), but lots of fun jewellery and a cute hat here and there.

All these fun Summer outfits really put me in a good mood!-)

Currently, and for the past couple of weeks: Golden State Warriors garb, mostly t-shirts.

Angie said a fair amount about Seattle. Though I'm seeing a lot of ankle boots and shoes without visible sock with cropped jeans, exposed ankle no matter the weather.
Yesterday I was in Ballard, an old Seattle neighborhood with lots of new apartments, fancy restaurants and bars. A saw a 20-something woman crossing the street. She was wearing dark short shorts with black tights and tan rugged ankle boots with a heel. Shrunken navy blazer (I think cotton), singly buttoned over a white graphic tee. Her hair was up with lots of wispy bits escaping from under a trucker cap (baseball cap), black mesh in the back and the front was white with some graphic and black brim.
I thought it was a really cool, unique look.

I went away to the beach for a couple of nights. We have a family cottage/bach there which we have owned for 44 years. In the meantime the beach village has grown and become very upmarket. It was great weather so lots of people out and about - what did I notice?

  • Athleisure - can't go for a stroll on the beach without colourful or cool leggings, sneakers and lots of puffer vests.
  • The boys (2 year upwards) all have cool hairstyles - long, undercuts, side swept fringes.
  • Dogs are a very fashionable accessory!

I will confess and say I went for a three hour walk in cool leggings and my gear too!!
