1)... unless someone can put up a killer argument for why it shouldn't be. Tahari, less than 1/2 the price of either BR version bought last night. Stretchy arms, so comfortable, fits like a dream come true, the last jacket available and in my size. It isn't all-season, but I can think of a gazillion ways to wear both pieces. Oh, and there are pockets!

Skirt is shorter than I would have worn to the bank, but well I left the bank... I have lower, black heels coming.

2) Also picked up a burgundy shell, since the color is so on-trend. BUT, now that I see the pics, I wonder if it is aging or not the best color?

3) I'm thinking maybe the buttoned up Brooks Brothers shirt is simultaneously cheaper, cheekier, and more conservative for the interview.

Thoughts? Reality check?

ETA pic with skirt sitting at my hip rather than natural waist - not a HUGE difference because of my oh-so-short waist. Does this help, or does it need to be longer still?

EATA pic with heels 2" shorter (3" vs 5+") and sheer black tights. Skirt is currently sitting at waist and could sag a little lower, but I'm thinking I like it this length with tights. Skirt is exactly 2" above the knee.

LOVE! It wouldn't work at the bank, but you are applying for a retail job and I think this hits just he right fashion-forward sweet spot! I actually love it with the shoes you are wearing in the photos! And I prefer the burgundy top to the buttoned-up shirt, but both are fab!!

Oh man Rae, I think those are fun pieces and I can see how you'd have a lot of fun styling them separately but it just doesn't read as a suit to me. I always expect suits to be a single color. The black arms make it read as a vest + skirt to me.

Super cool!! It looks gorgeous on you. I like it with the BB shirt better.

If you are worried about the length, is there a seam allowance in the skirt to let it down an inch?

With tights, this length won't be a problem at all. It looks about as long as my taupe skirt. Even though my eye has really adjusted so that I usually prefer midis these days, I find it's fun to have a shorter-but-not-TOO short skirt in rotation, especially with tights, but even without. And you are much younger than I am and certainly have the legs for it!

you might want to choose a bright purple top rather than burgundy. somehow purpose reads younger than burgundy. might choose "fashion-y" accessories as well.

That suit fits you beautifully -- it looks like it was cut for you! Definitely not a conservative version of suit, that's for sure. I think the different fabric of the arms and body of the jacket mirror all the mixed-media jackets we're seeing, so it's very on trend.

For an interview, I would suggest wearing hosiery or letting the seam down a tad. Or see how it looks with the lower heels.

I also like the Brooks Brothers shirt, buttoned up. Very cheeky

I love it! I'm joining the rest in wishing the skirt were a weeeeeeee bit shorter, but everything else looks great on you!

Rae don't hate me but the skirt is too short for the occasion you need it for. Can you let out the hem? You are usually sitting down in interviews, so it will look much shorter.

There is 1.5" of hem to work with... because of the pattern, I might even be able to let it down all the way and just serge it so it doesn't unravel. I might be able to do it myself, but I am not 100% sure.

Could a tailor do this in time for Friday morning? I do not have any that I know and trust.

I agree that this is much more you, and I also wish the skirt were just a little longer. I would wear hosiery and keep the blouse/shirt underneath pretty conservative if the skirt can't be lengthened.

Mm, yes! The suit is hot, no doubt about it. You have to go with it.

Definitely like the collar shirt better; a stronger bolder look.

I like the skirt length. I think that's one of the things about the other suits that made them look a little dowdy for you... skirt too long.

But, if you ever find something similar in navy, I think you need to snap that up too. I found it really very flattering to your complexion.

Great look, rae, and so versatile!

I'm not having a problem with the length if it is a retail position, particularly at a really youth-oriented store. Just watch yourself when you sit down, LOL. But is there a way to let it sit a tad lower on your hip just for the interview? How would you do that....I guess if it's the right size that wouldn't work...in that case, as others are saying, some hose darker than the skirt should help out.

Love it. Where you are, wouldn't a shorter skirt be more acceptable anyway? MaryK would have to weigh in on that. If you can let it down even an inch, i would think you should be fine, and you can probably do that yourself, right? I like what Suz said about the tights.

The fit looks perfect and seems much more you than the BR's. I could go either way on the length for you--longer would be nice but you've got the legs and youth to pull off the shorter length as well. I don't think that should be a deal breaker.

There's definitely a difference, at least to my eye. I think you're okay and probably don't have to hem. Let's see what the others have to say. You look much happier in this suit!

I like this suit a lot better (and you do too based on your photos!), but I think the skirt is a little short. If you could let it down a tad I think it would be better.

I think this skirt length is fine. I would not risk trying to alter it before Friday (not after my own disaster!). Prefer with the buttondown; if you go short with the skirt, go more conservative/covered on top.

I might also suggest flat shoes or boots with this... tights with oxfords? ... might work better with the shorter length skirt? Just a suggestion. I like shorter skirts with lower/flatter shoes, but maybe that is just me.

Yay! I'm not sure on the bright white shirt with the colorblocked sleeves but maybe it's just my eye isn't adjusted. I like the shell better.

I love this, too! The length is no problem, I think it is more than long enough for this occasion. I like the idea of tights and lower shoes, but heels are of course good as well. You look great, and very you!

much better with tights. do you have tights that are more opaque? as an interviewer, the see-throughness of the current tights still make me think "leg" though not as much as without.

also, the opaque tights would echo the sleeves.

obv, this is a teensy concern.

I like it much better with the tights and the lower heels. I am not sold on the buttoned up shirt or the shell though -- I think you can do better. Is the suit black and white?
