I’m starting to plan more for warmer weather, and today I finally have a quiet chunk of time to look at my closet and start doing some seasonal switching. I do it in phases — right now I would put away warm, heavy wool sweaters and jackets and tall boots, and pull out my summer shoes to see what is looking not-so-fresh to me anymore.

With that in mind, I always like to add a couple of pairs of summer footwear (most likely sandals) to keep my look up to date. I would really prefer my summer footwear to add a bit of edge to my outfits, as it’s harder to do that with jackets and other pieces that are too warm or bulky in our summers. Plus I wear more skirts and dresses in summer, so I want the footwear to skew funky and casual.

I’ve been thinking along the lines of some chunkier flatform type of sandals, and even pondering... wait for it... white (gasp! I know, I never wear white shoes)!

I’ve poked around a bit online (nothing at local retail is speaking to me at all, it’s all too basic and/or conservative, or too much like what I already own).

Any suggestions?

I’ve added Finds for some of what is catching my eye for one reason or another. I welcome feedback!

And here are photos of what I currently have:

Flat slides:
1. Kenneth Cole reptile print - colors are a little limiting but comfy and I like them — keep
2. Tsonga blue flip-flops - new, bought in South Africa - casual, comfortable, love the color — keep
3-4. Gabor silver slides - bought last year and wore a lot, but they are big on my foot. I think I was too eager to find *my* silver sandals. I can wear them while I keep an eye out for better ones — keep for now
5. Tsonga silver sandals - new from SA - casual, very comfy — keep
6. Gentle Souls flatform rose gold slides — I wore these a TON and would have duplicated in silver if they had been available. They’re showing some wear but are still good for this year — keep.
7. Ancient Greek Sandals multi-metallic slides — I love these. Keep.

Heeled sandals - these skew a bit dressier:
8. AS98 black open-heeled slides — love these. Very me. Keep.
9. United Nude black and white heels — I’ve had these for years and they don’t get worn a lot but are sometimes just the right thing for a certain outfit. Keep.
10. Paul Green metallic heeled sandals - a few years old and I’m tiring of them a little, but still useful. Keep for now.
11. LD Tuttle black heels — several years old and I still love them. Keep.
12. Freebird distressed black heeled sandals — a few years old and I’ve worn them a ton, but they’re holding up well. I wouldn’t mind finding something with a similar vibe, but with a lower heel. Keep.
13. Antelope olive sandals - I’ve had these for many years and they keep going into the holding zone and coming back into my closet. They’re comfortable and I like the style, but I don’t find the color terribly useful. Worth dyeing? Or should I pass on?

Flatforms:
14. Eileen Fisher flatforms - several years old and need a cleaning (those white soles!) but still useful because they are so comfortable. Keep for now.
15. Arche black sandals — New last year and worn a ton. Super comfortable and casual. Keep.

Other:
16. Cole Haan ancient black sandals. I’ve had these forever and still wear them occasionally. Comfortable and useful when I want something a bit more delicate. Keep for now.
17. Jessica Simpson (!) turquoise reptile sandals in the same style. Again, I’ve had these forever. They’re comfortable and I like the colors but don’t remember wearing them last year. Maybe these can go?

I already took two old pairs out while taking these photos. I decided they no longer sparked joy.
