Spring excitement - not! - YouLookFab Forum

I am excited for the arrival of spring but it is still very cold here in Canada. Today was -20 Celsius with windchill. I want to start getting into taking and posting outfit pics again. Hopefully, I will stick to it. Here are 4 outfits that I recently wore. The continuing theme is black doc marcies (Thanks Suz!). I have embraced the black footwear this year and have accepted that black accessories will be a major part of my wardrobe. The cognac bag, black and white striped shirt, grey sweatshirt and grey skinnies are all new additions. What do you ladies think? Any suggestions and comments for improvement are most welcome.

Lisa stole my line. Red is gorgeous on you Mona. I bet fuchsia would be equally lovely with your skin and hair color. I also really like the polka dots and can tell you do too. Did you try rolling the jeans in #3. I think it might look nice to expose a bit more of the boot to add a bit more black and ground the outfit. All really cute looks and it is not the least bit apparent that you have the end of winter blues.

I like #4 best: something about the colours & patterns keep drawing my eye straight back to your face & hair, where it should be. I'm surprised you can wear skinny jeans in those temps though! The weather has dropped here in upstate NY too & my thighs would be miserable in tight denim right now. Unless I put some long johns underneath I guess. I'm all about layered wool at the moment. hehe

Anyway, you look great in black & white combinations and that bright red too. And your hair is such a stunning accessory! Those black docs look great on you too. Why not embrace black when it works so well for your colouring? It opens up so many more options!

Black booties are a slam dunk for you Mona - book ending your gorgeous hair! All outfits are fantastic - red jacket is divine. My fav though - is number 2, love you in b&w stripes!

My favorites are 1 and 3. 1, because agreed, you look especially beautiful in red, and I also like the way you've paired it with the very neutral sweater underneath. 3, because that sweatshirt looks great on you and I like the no buttons, but still dressed up casual look of the outfit overall.
The only suggestion I can think of is that it's possible the sleekness of the outfits might be heightened by cuffing sleeves OR pant legs but not both at the same time. Just a thought.
You look beautiful and I also like that you don't over accessorize, allowing your lovely coloring to really shine without distraction.

E, I wear jeans to work all year round. I drive to work so I think that helps to easily get by in jeans. If I were spending any more than 5 minutes outside in this weather, I would definitely be wearing wool.
Isabel, You have raised a good point. Cuffing both the blazer and pants at the same time, might not be a great idea. I should experiment with one of these variables.

I really love all of these, the bold graphic b/w pattern and the colors and shapes work so well on you. The cognac bag introduces a different feeling, it's an earth tone, it has more surface detail, and a less defined shape. I think a bag in a color pop or black or white with a more structured geometric shape could work really well with these outfits too.

Great outfits, Mona! Show that cold who's boss. Particularly fond of #1 and 2. I've also been coming around more to black footwear; it's still not my favorite, but I'm definitely enjoying them more than before.

I think you could wear your red jacket with all of those outfits. It would look a little bit French with both the stripes & the polka dots & with the graphic top, it would look really modern & fresh. Plus, you look fabulous in red.
