Some weekend wiws.

Hi everyone. Here’s two very different outfits this weekend- one super casual and one semi-dressy.
The first one my happiness factor was the liberty print shirt and the flatforms- overall I’m not completely thrilled with it though.
For the second one the happiness factor is the long bomber. It’s just funky and comfy. I’m always a bit wary of wrap dresses, but I think this one is jfe. Well, I hope. So again, I was happy but not thrilled with this outfit. Perhaps the dress will grow on me over time?

Both are super great. The first is spunky! Great use of the sweater vest.

I want that sweater vest. I’ve never met a grey sweater I didn’t like, and have a personal ban on more. I’m not forbidden from vests, though

Also that dress looks very good on you.

It’s funny: I am liking the same thing in the first outfit: the liberty print is great.

I think all the elements are great in the outfit but the liberty print stands out.
I wonder if this outfit is just a bit too masculine/tomboy in vibe for you?

For the second outfit: I really like the dress. Florals are my thing! I wonder about the black and whether you would be happier in a lighter colour.

The liberty print shirt is very cheerful, and I like how the fun flatforms kind of bookend your hair. How about wearing these items with something white, i.e. white jeans?

The black bomber looks rather heavy against your light and soft colouring and with the dark floral dress. If you love the bomber, I suggest wearing it with lighter and softer colours, i.e. a column of colour in beige or light denim blue.

The dress is gorgeous on you, and one of the reasons is that the light parts of the florals echo your personal colouring. I suggest wearing the dress without the black bomber, but with either white, beige or blue jewellery, and, if needed, a lighter jacket or wrap. Beige/nude/tan shoes would look great with the floral print and your hair.

UmmLila: thanks- I am glad people like the sweater vest. It's not easy to style but its very comfy and surprisingly warm. Yes, grey sweaters are awesome.
Smittie: Your comments are insightful. I didn't realise it but you're right about the first outfit. It is too tomboy ish for my style. The combination of heavy sneakers with "long shorts" and a chimney sweep's wool vest was just too much. If I took the vest off I think it'd work better for my aesthetic. The dress... hmm I do like the colour of it but yes it is rather dark. Maybe that's what keeps it a "like" garment rather than a "love" garment.
The Cat: Thank you for your very helpful comments relating to colour. I think the grey vest adds a sombreness to the colour palette in the first outfit that I'm not loving. Also, with regards to the black dress (IRL it's navy), it is a very dark combo when worn with the long bomber. I will think more about that next time I wear it. I may try it with my tan mirror heels, pearl necklace and navy jacket.

I like both outfits. Better than JFE. Love the floral dress! It is a darker look than I am used to seeing on you. Perhaps try it with lighter shoes to lighten things up a bit?

I’m in love with your grey sweater vest. I think my wardrobe is slowly turning grey, kind of like my hair did. It took my hair about 40 years, so by the time I’m 80, everything in my closet including my undies should be completely grey!!!

How nice! Your post is full of interesting questions. Let me help try solving them by putting my two grains of salt (lol).
Outfit one: I find it adorable on you. I think that the most important piece for this look are the wide legged jeans. Then close second is the vest with its roomy backside which balances out the bottom's widness nicely. Then, the charming, fresh print shirt in a cheerful color. Finally, the adolescent wink from your converse looking platform sneakers, in a shade reminescent to the shirt.
This outfit is: cute. But you say you aren't 100% happy in it, so it must be altered IMO. I would start by changing above items in reverse. I would start with footwear. Were you aware that visually, footwear that mirror the color of another item will shorten the perceived distance between those two items, effectively compressing everything in the middle? Not an absolute, and certainly a rule to be broken, but if you wear red shoes with red shirt your legs will appear shorter because the eyes and brain want to bring the two elements closer.
However, your choice of a chunkier, flat platform was excellent here.
Do you have white booties? White sneakers? Black booties? Shooties? Cuban stacked heel sandals or bootie? Also, a couple of leather bracelets ... and a fedora?
Wrap dress: is to die for on you. Absolutely 10 on 10! Cut, style, coloring... and I personally LOVE the footwear you chose with it, it grounds it nicely, and compliments the bomber. I wonder what makes you think this is JFE... there must be a reason for you not to feel as fab as you look here.

Jussie, both are great. I have a short sleeve top in that liberty fabric and like wearing mine with denim too. I love the wrap dress and bomber on you. I am wary of wrap dresses too, but mainly because they have a tendency to come open when I am sitting down.

I love the adorable and cozy casualness of the first outfit. The second is tailored and lovely. Like the playfulness you added with the bomber.

It will be interesting to pinpoint why you have mixed feelings about these looks, Jussie. I think they are one of your best....

I love the Liberty print blouse and sweater vest! I think a pair of more fitted pants would make for a more feminine silhouette.
The wrap dress and the long bomber are amazing pieces! I love both, but think together they are a bit too dark and detract a little from each piece, instead of enhance them. Just my opinion, of course, but I think they should be the centerpieces of other outfits.

Thanks for your always wise feedback, and your supportive words. Your outfit analyses are spot on, and bring many new ideas into my mind. I may try the first outift with some normal slim leg denim jeans, that'll just tone it down a smidgen. There's probably just a little bit too much going on with all the design elements.

With the second outfit, the more I look at it the more I do like it. Although from conventional flattery POV it is a little dark overall, it was worn at night time so I think dark can be more fitting then. For daywear I would change things around a bit as others have suggested.

Also I am excited to try the bomber in a different outfit, letting it be the hero of the outfit.

Since YLF I have become more picky... which is a double edged sword I guess!
