Thinking about Chewyspaghetti's thread about her frustrating day at the outlet mall - Do you prefer to shop solo or with a family member or friend?

Personally, I prefer solo or with my Mum.

I'm sure many of the people on this forum would make great shopping partners, I just do not have any in my area of town.

Yeah, my Mum living a 30 hour flight away is a bit of a pain...I think that one of the reasons that I enjoy shopping with her is the opportunity to spend quality time with her.

I love to shop by myself, with a friend ,with my hubby, with my daughter, with my son....My goal is to shop with Angie:)

I just like to shop:) Seriously, it is difficult to shop with small children

I prefer to shop by myself. I do not like to be influenced by other's decisions if our styles do not match (and they do not match with my mom or my girlfriends). I also like to go on my own pace and not depend on others.
Well, if any of you gals were living in my city that will be a different story. And shopping with Angie... a girl can dream, right?:-)

These days I do better going solo. I don't mind shopping with DH: while his taste is more conservative than mine (if that's even possible), he's fairly good at telling me if something is flattering or not.

I hate shopping with other people. I will only shop with Angie, my mom, and other YLFers. I hate to be influenced by other people and I hate feeling rushed even more. I am a very strategic shopper and having other people messing with my plans really bothers me.

I vote Sandy and Taylor should become neighbours.

I like to shop with anyone who enjoys shopping so that means all of you on this forum! (Sandy and I really do have a lot of fun shopping together so right back at you Sandy).

Loved shopping with my Mum. Also love shopping with friends and family members who appreciate style and fashion. My sister-in-law is fab to shop with! Greg is fab to shop with for 4 hours (2 sessions of 2 hours a year). I also like shopping on my own. I'm all over the place with this one, Fi.

by myself, definitely. I'm a pretty fast shopper, and I find it supremely annoying to wait for someone who takes 40 minutes in say, Old Navy when I could have zipped through Club Monaco, J. Crew, Express, Banana Republic. in that time...

If I'm truly on a mission, then definitely by myself. I'm not patient when it comes to crowds or hassle, so I like to be able to take my time where I want to, and rush through where I want to.

Otherwise if it's more for leisure I'm happy to catch-up with friends and browse through a few shops together. I'll also go shopping with my Mum but hate it when she tries to get me to try on horrifically coloured or patterned things that she loves.

I'd love to have a ylf shopping pal though - how fun would that be!!!

I would love to be able to shop with Sandy and Angie on a regular basis. I had so much fun. Would love to shop with anyone on YLF.
My husband and girls tend to rush me when I go with them.

I will shop with a friend occasionally but I make much better decisions when I'm on my own.
Shopping with a friend is more of a social event for me.

Generally, by myself. I want to look at what I want to look at or spend 20 minutes trying something on if I want to without feeling like I'm inconveniencing anyone else.

Although, lately, shopping with DH has been nice because if I'm even debating something, he tells me to go ahead and get it! I tend to be such a bargain shopper, I usually end up talking myself out of something, so it's nice to have him suggest I splurge a little.

The other time I think it's nice to be shopping with someone else if when I'm undressed in the dressing room and wishing I had a different size from the rack....;)

Definitely solo, I hate feeling like someone's waiting for me, even if they insist that they don't mind. However, my mom can be good to go shopping with - she usually gives great advice and hangs everything back up for me.

I do best shopping by myself, with my mom, or with a certain gay male friend.

I find shopping with anyone else stressful, and tend to just treat those experiences as social events, rather than an opportunity to really find anything for myself.

I generally shop most effectively by myself, although I like going shopping with my Mom or sister when I'm back home or when they come visit me. And I do have friends that I shop with, but that's basically a social event. Sometimes it would be nice to have someone with me to give another opinion, though. And has anyone else experienced one of those times when you're shopping alone, get yourself zipped into a dress, and then find that even though you could zip it on your own it's almost impossible to get UNzipped? Nope, I've never had that happen either . . .

Angie - that is funny about Greg! I last about the same amount of hours with my DH too. He is actually a very good dresser, but he takes ages in the changing room, is very stroppy if he can't find exactly what he wants and isn't open to trying something just to see how it looks!

For me, it absolutely would have to be solo! I love to be able to dart from here to there, go into the shops that I (and possibly only I(!)) want to and just have some time out from being touched, cuddled, dragged, bumped and "loved" by my children. Maybe this will change when they are older though, who knows?!

I prefer shopping alone (but would love to go with any YLFers!) than shop with DH or far, far worse - my sister. She believes that if you can get it on your body, it fits fine and that Im ' an idiot/and or crazy' if I get even a *good* deal at any dept store..I should shop ONLY at thrift stores (which are fun, but not my first choice) and 'not be so fussy' if an item doesnt fit well...needless to say I rarely shop with her and am hesitant to show her anything I buy...she only asks how much I paid for something (we have seperate households so its not her money Im spending)

Given the choice I would 100% prefer to go with someone, but only if they are clued into my style and can give me appropriate advice. I usually wind up going alone and rolling the dice on finding a good sales associate.
Any Ylfers would be so beyond welcome as shopping partners!!

When shopping for myself, I like to shop alone.

Although, I do love to shop with girlfriends because I love to help them put outfits together, and come up with tweaked versions of what they think they want, and show them how little things can make such a big difference. My girlfriend told me last week I'd make a good personal shopper because I let my client (her) try what she wanted, then gently suggest what was better. She ended up not having to buy an entire outfit for an occasion because of suggestions I made about things she could put together from her closet. We did end up with a new top and two new pair of sandals though. It was so fun!

I love social shopping (making a day of it luch and chat etc) with a friend I used to work with, we usually try to catch up and shop every couple of months. Most Saturdays me, mum and brother's girlfriend go shopping again not for anything in particular just a mooch and tea x

Before my best friend moved away, she and I would plan a weekend trip to our HUGE outlet center twice a year. We would even lodge at a hotel right across the street for a night. Even though we had different styles, we liked the same stores. She is a logical thinker so she would plan our attack route for the day. LOL! I would help her with color and pattern mixing. It was so much fun! I miss those shopping trips.

When I have limited time and have a list to work with, I prefer to shop alone. When I'm just window shopping and need some social time, I go with friends.

It's fun to shop with a friend, but I prefer going alone. It's just easier for me to get down to business and not worry if someone else wants to leave. I do like the input from someone else though, I hate it when I'm standing in a dressing room second guessing!

I think I'm better solo. When I shop with hubby, he can get impatient, tell me something looks great, and then before I can really think it thru, the item is purchased and we are headed back to the car! I end up coming back to return. What I love to do is purchase on my own and then if I am struggling with something I can show to hubby at home with no rush. And now I am showing to you all and it's so much fun. I can take my time and then return what doesn't work.
