Snow day #3: The Velvet Sloans

Final snow day post... had a chance to try on the Sloans with various tops in my closet. Would love your thoughts on any of these... any "no-go's"? Any favourites?

These are all on the dressy side of things. I'd love some suggestions how to wear these on a more day to day basis.

Please excuse the glaring boobs in #2 :). Trust me, it does NOT look like this IRL! But I can't be bothered to go and re-try it on with a black bra. And I know you guys understand!

I love 7! That is my favorite, and then like Carambola I like 1 and 2. The only one I'm not a fan of is 4, which looks a bit fussy. I never wear sheer blouses though in my climate so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the responses! I think 1,2 and 7 are my favs too. The sheer blouse I've had forever - it's a good "I have too many Christmas parties, what am I going to wear" top. Not that that has happened for a while!

Look #1 will be my Christmas outfit this year, I think

#1 and #5 are my favorites! For a less dressy option, why not add a cashmere/wool V neck sweater over the white blouse from #7? Or maybe wear them with a chunky wool/cotton cream sweater? I wear mine all the time with just a V neck sweater. They do tend to pick up every little puff of fuzz that floats by though!

Thanks for the suggestions all! Will definitely have to do more experimenting - for now I was trying to come up with festive options, but I do want to wear them a lot, so need more casual options.

Carter, you have them as well? Have you posted any WIW's of them?

Okay - fabulous pants! I've been contemplating velvet pants, and I think I may have to give them a try after seeing these!

"Glaring boobs" got me laughing and I just saw one of myself, like this, when I was cutting out old photos of family members to put on Christmas presents.

I love the look and feel of velvet and these look spectacular. I'm especially fond of 1 and 7 and 2 (with your black bra).

Elizabeth, mine are not the Sloans. They're from WHBM, but the fit looks pretty similar from what I can tell...it's always so hard with black. I don't think I've posted anything with them yet, but I'll put it on the list.

These are beautiful trousers! I like 1,2, and 7 also, but I think the top in 5 would be terrific under a topper, or worn with some drapey necklaces on top (what I have dubbed "tinsel" for the holiday season).

For casual wear, what about pairing with a chambray shirt, or a sweater and a denim jacket on top?

I think the sweater in #1 would be magnificent with a dark wash jean!

Count me in as another fan of outfits #1, #2 and #7.

For casual wear, I was going to suggest a denim or chambray shirt, like Beth Ann already has mentioned. I have a similar pair of old, flared black velvet pants and plan to wear them with a denim shirt like this inspiration photo I have attached in photo #1. Or with a simple turtleneck like #2. Photos 3-5 are inspirations for outfits with such pants I saved for myself from Intermix.

Double dottis. You look great in the pants. Chunky knit, denim, high- low all could be used to dress down.

I had the feeling Beth Ann was going to suggest a chambray shirt, if she saw this post :). Gosh, I need one. But I'm on team dark wash denim, and they are realy hard to find, and then to fit... sigh. Must. Try. Harder.

Beth Ann, I actually did wear the sweater in #1 with my dark BF's to a birthday party a couple of weeks ago. Loved it. Good eye (but we know that).

Hi Elizabeth --

The trousers look great on you. I'm partial to the drama of all-black on you, so #2 and #4 are my favorites for the holiday looks. Love the way the lighter stripes -- and the bra -- in #2 pick up the tones in your hair. I do think #1 is beautiful for a lighter, brighter look.

This year I'm wearing my black velvet trousers with a black sequined tunic/mini-dress and the variation Carter mentioned -- a plain old V-neck sweater.

I don't wear them much during the day due to the aforementioned lint/cat hair attraction factor, but when I do I tend to treat them like cords -- I think the napped texture lends itself to fuzzy/heavy knits and more rustic and/or cosy tops.
