Sorry for forum bombing two days in a row, but....yesterday's anorak score came because I went to my favourite shop to pick up a Smythe jacket I'd been eyeing for awhile. To make one of my usual long stories short - I came out with this one instead. My original plan was for a black one - and this could not be more different - but man am I glad I did it! The shop owner, who has now become a client of mine and a friend, insisted that the black one (the Kate cut) just did not fit me right. This one does. I was worried for about 5 minutes about the colour - but quickly got over that when I realized how easily it fit into my closet. It may look a bit weird, but I did enjoy wearing the collar up and pulled closer to my face today. It was chilly and windy out - which was why. But I kind of liked the look .

Also - what did we ever do without laced -up ankle high sandals? I have had these pants for a few years and didn't wear them very often because I never felt I had the right shoe. Now it's a slam-dunk.

I'm also experimenting with wearing less makeup. I have of course heard that old adage that less is better as you age, but I love makeup and feel too plain and mannish without it. But the other day, I found myself in a face-to-face with a very hip and cool hair stylist/gift shop owner and wished the floor would open up under me. I had on WAY too much makeup and felt so OLD. Ugh. (too much eyeliner and way too thick , and my lipstick was too gross. And never mind my hair! I wanted to die). So less makeup And I fixed my hair the minute I got back into the car.

Thoughts, basketball jokes, peacock feather jokes, etc always welcome. If you notice a happier attitude from me of late, it's because my new job has me feeling on top of the world. Sometimes change is a darn good thing at this age.

Oh geez, now I need to steal that JACKET from you too. Wow, just a wonderful outfit all around.

I think you look beautiful with your usual makeup and with less. I have a weird moment every time I post pictures here without any makeup -- I don't wear much of it, but I feel like I look so much better with a little definition on my eyes and lips, and my skin tone evened out a bit. I like to keep it subtle, but it's hard to leave the house completely bare-faced unless I'm going for a run or bike ride.

I have never owned a Smythe jacket -- YET.

The pants look like a fabulous fit, too. You're all decked out for the new job -- so glad you're feeling good about it!

i love that jacket so much (but i really cannot do anything shoulder emphasizing.) And the shoes are also great. Finally, I do not think there has been a year since 1991 that I have *not* owned a Mac Spice lipliner.

Lisa - why not? Don't you love a strong shoulder line? I have fairly decently strong and square shoulders and really love the look. Maybe it's just me? I guess it helps bring the focus away from the bottom half up to the top....

And i'm with you on the Spice liner.

I get very IT and short looking with shoulder pads. I love that jacket color so much though I am tempted to try just in case it's ok on me.

This color is so great on you! Another WOW outfit all around. I don't know how I've never even heard of Smythe and their jackets before YLF? I would love to add one to my closet. And the fit on your pants is perfect! Just perfect.

I never thought you wore too much makeup at all but I understand when you feel like everything is just wrong. I've never been into wearing a lot of makeup but I do think I look better with some, defined eyes and lips for sure. I have the worst complexion so I gave up on trying to cover things long ago and just use tinted moisturizer.

Really glad to know your new job is working out well. Sometimes change is good at any age.

You're looking smashing in that blue, Lisa. It's an amazing color on you, and it makes you look very radiant.

You do slim pants, a pretty graphic tee and chic blazer like a pro. I tried this last fall and realised this 'easy & effortless' look is neither easy nor sans effort to get right ;P It requires very well fitting, just right pieces to create the right proportions and pull together the whole look in a chic way.

You're looking FAB! Love those sandals too. I'm a huge fan of 'no makeup' makeup look myself, so I like the change.

I also find your positivity and new found enthusiasm contagious! Thank you! It's sooo good to hear that you're enjoying your new job. And hey....a welcome change is GOOD at any age!

Thank you all. I felt good today, again, and I'm happy when it all works out. Ideally, I'd have a drapier, silkier tank under the jacket instead of this t (which is a completely straight cut and thereby not so flattering on it's own as I'm absolutely NOT straight up and down).

Lisa - you'd be surprised at the lack of padding here. No more so than in any other jacket. It's all in the cut - they call this their Sharp Shoulder jacket.

Manny - you don't need makeup at all with your darker , lusher features. Without definition of some sort, I tend to fade away. But it's finding that right balance, isn't it? I

Colette - these darn Smythe jackets are addictive. I like to think I plan for at least one new one every spring. (depends on how my commissions are doing - lol) They just do not date.

Looking gorgeous. That colour is just beautiful on you. I don't say this often but I am glad you didn't get the black!! Proportions are great and those shoes! I have the same (an Aussie version) and I have really enjoyed them over the warmer months.

I have a sweet spot for Smythe jackets so I will love this. The blue is gorgeous on you. I find a splash of colour very useful. Don't you already you lots of black?
I have never worn much make up despite loving it but I know the feeling you describe. Usually for me it is when I have no make up on and I feel like a blah.
I will have to check back. I didn't know you changed jobs. Glad it worked out for you. I have been too busy lately.

That blue looks lovely on you and you have put it together nicely with the t shirt and pants...I really like those pants...the kind of style I'd like to get.

I think your make up always looks nice. I think in some mirrors make up looks different as I have been to some shops and wondered why my make up looked more pasty. I always wear makeup to work as I don't feel complete without it. I don't tend to wear it in the weekend as I'm lazy.

Thank you my friends - yes, this electric colour is a real spark of life in my closet. And on day two of the shopping binge, I wore it and focused on looking for tops that would work with is .....finding TONS to choose from. I think this jacket is going to be my go-to for months to come now.
Still not finding a bag I want though........but I refuse to pull a Lisa-move and buy something anyways. I am holding out for one that blows me away.

This is beautiful on you, Lisa. I love Smythe jackets -- I think that's one thing you lucky Canadians get a lot more affordably than we do here in the USA You are right, they don't date, yet have aspects that keep them current looking (like this standout colour). Plus, they're so well made.

Your minimal makeup looks beautiful but, as Janet says, so does any makeup you wear. I never think of you as wearing too much. You are a makeup master and I always learn from you. Your lipstick is *never* gross; you have a talent for picking the exact right colour; something I just cannot master.
