small ankles support group!

I know this group has a lot of overlap with the narrow calves thread, but I figured it could help to have a separate thread going so that those of us with "dainty" ankles can find the perfect ankle boots / booties.

I'm still not a fan of the slouchy look, so I'm on the hunt for some fitted cognac booties with minimal gape. My ankles are 7.5" at the smallest point.

Can I join mine are 8.5"? I had the most gorgeous booties from Clarks a couple of years ago. They are very low and sit just under my ankle bone with no gape. I was hoping to replace them this year but sounds like I need to keep hold of them till I find a replacement x

I have tiny ankles, too....never thought about measuring them uuntil now and they're 7.3".....I usually wear leg warmers scrunched down to create width...I also have small feet...size 5.5 and sometimes 6......this adds to my BIG head syndrome, feeling like the floating balloon headed girl....I know, I know...sounds quite silly but then again... o_O

can I join....?

About 7 1/4 here. I never thought of ankles as a dressing challenge -- gee, my life is even more difficult than I thought!

I have small ankles too but can't be bothered to measure. I don't always mind boot gaping or slouchiness though, so I don't really think of it as a challenge. The challenge is when I get boots that fit in the calf, they always bag and slouch in the ankle.

I'm in with 7.5" ankles too! Shoes aren't a problem but boots definitely are. I love the style of shoe-boots/booties but they look like big concrete blocks on me due to my ankles. :o(

We skinny ankle people should comfort ourselves in the knowledge that we are in good company. Did I ever tell the story about the movie star who sat next to me in a shoe store on Michigan Avenue, took one look at my legs (as I was trying on boots) and said, "oh, you have skinny ankles like I do" and then proceeded to commiserate with me?

Please stop me if I'm repeating myself ! And if I'm not, I'll give you some hints as to who it was ...

I had no idea it was Halle Berry at the time. She was just a fellow shopper comparing notes on boots and telling me how she hated shopping without her girlfriends. She wound up convincing me to buy a pair of ankle boots with a buckle (adjustable for skinny ankles). It was only when I went to buy my boots, right after she bought hers and left, that the clerk who had just processed her credit card whispered, "That was Halle Berry!"

Seriously it's hard to believe Halle Berry has issues with any part of her body! I am sure she would join our club. What do we do now? Let's call her and ask her to be our vice president. Kate as president of course

I kept the boots for many years and called them my "Berry boots" but alas they are no more.

haha, Mae, you mean we can't just sit around measuring our ankles?!

I was hoping that someone would have found some awesome booties or boots that are too small for the "normal" sized ankle crowd that might work for the small ankle YLF ladies.

So far I'm having even more trouble searching for booties by ankle size than searching for knee-high boots by calf size! Zappos has been no help, but Endless will include something like "Boot opening measures approximately 10" around". The problem is that there's no way to do a search based on this measurement, you just have to check for every item Has anyone found a better way to hunt for ankle boots with small openings?

The style doesn't sing to me, but the narrow opening gives me hope!

Has anyone else found any ankle boots with a small opening?

Hmm... interesting. There must be a sweet spot where the opening is just right. I think the *idea* of the bootie is to gape rather than hug the ankle, right? Or maybe I'm misinterpreting Angie's blog post from a few weeks ago. (http://youlookfab.com/2010/08/.....d-booties/)

I wonder if you'd lose the whole stylish look of the bootie if it was too form fitting to the ankle?

Oh, what a fun break to take ~ just measured an ankle. Am I measuring right, BTW? I measured right above the ankle bone. Measured at 7.5" so if I did it right, I'm in too.

Laura, I LOVE that story about Halle Berry! I didn't know that about her background. I have always thought she is one of the most beautiful women in the world, so I totally agree there.

I hope Kate calls our club to order soon. I respectfully submit as the first order of the meeting for all members to submit the results of field research conducted to date on all booties and ankle boots that have been tried on.

I have to dash off but will try to report back on my own findings . . .

Excellent request, Sparky. Our first order (which I imagine will be an ongoing task) is to report on all bootie and ankle boots we have personally tested or otherwise researched.

Thus far, I have tried on the:

The Pikolinos and GR booties both were just too wide around the ankle for my taste, though I think both would have been ok. I have found that when the opening at the ankle is larger than my calf circumference, the booties really make my legs look like sticks. The Tsubo booties were more fitted than the others, but gaped too much, I should have measured their circumference because I can't find it online anywhere. The Miz Mooz booties didn't fit well enough for my needs, and also had some substantial gaping with a 10" circumference.

Please report back with your field research!

Mae, I think if they are cut pretty low, they are supposed to fit pretty closely. The higher up the booties go, the more they can gape.

Laura, I would imagine that a lot of celebs have skinnier ankles and calves (and everything) than the majority of the population.

LOL! You guys are hilarious. I've never considered any part of me small. I just measured to check and I'm joining this club. My ankles, at the smallest point which is above the ankle bone, is 7.5". I'm IN! Narrow heels too.
