Slightly OT - I dont like my new fringe/bangs (PICS ADDED)

I had my hair trimmed into a bob almost 2 weeks ago and decided on getting a fringe/bangs cut in - previously I had a longer sideswept version which was almost long enough to tuck behind my ears. I had it trimmed so it now sits just above my eyebrows, I've tried ways of styling it to make it look decent but most days I end up pinning it back off my face because I just cant deal with the way it looks.

I know there's probably nothing that can be done until it grows more so I'm throwing myself a pity party

PNS, I'm so sympathetic to the "I hate my hair" phase of a new cut. Hoping Taylor and/or Renata will chime in with some suggestions...

Sorry you aren't loving your new fringe That's not a good feeling.

I recently had mine trimmed. Actually not so recently. Probably 3 weeks ago now. She trimmed it terrifyingly short. I absolutely hated it. It's still too short almost 21 days later! But I know once it grows back to the right spot it will be fine. You might find you like yours once it has some time to grow and settle a bit.

Also, I didn't like my fringe either when I first had it cut. I couldn't understand why. My new stylist said it was because it wasn't heavy enough, and that scared me. The thought of cutting even more of my hair into a fringe that I didn't even like was not exactly appealing. But I trusted her and I'm glad I did. She was right. It was too blunt and too feathery. After she took a razor to it and added some weight it looked much better.

So you might find that it takes some experimentation with how it is cut, and how long or short it is. Don't give up yet!

Maya I feel like my fringe is too heavy, I would definately freak out if my hairdresser wanted to cut more of a fringe. I think I might have to make a trip back to see if I can at least make it something I can live with.

And one of the many reasons why I rarely recommend fringe/bangs! And by bangs I mean at the eyebrow or above
Unless one is willing to deal with the varying lengths and constant up keep and styling of bangs they are a problem for most. especially if you have any wave or curl!

I have always worn a small fringe and it is constant upkeep...but I can do that. Below the brow and side bang is much easier for most to maintain unless you have very short hair.

Give it a couple weeks and you should be much happier!

Yes, hair grows....think of it as a learning. I have a fringe, but I think it suits my style and face, and I've learned to trim it myself (with lessons from my hairdresser) so the upkeep is a tiny bit easier.

Also, slightly OT, but I've been using dry shampoo in my fringe since I don't wash my hair every day. I hate any hint of grease in my fringe, and the dry shampoo is the perfect solution!

I wish you and I could even each other out. My sideswept bangs worked well for the first few weeks of my cut, but very quickly hit an awkward length - especially for wearing glasses.

I hope that your hairdresser can help you find a happy medium even if you decide not to keep your fringe!

Renata here is a pic. I've worn it pinned up all day so I've wet combed it a dried it so hopefully you can see what it looks like. It looks alot worse than this in the mornings and I have to work very hard and use alot of hairspray to get it to stay over to the side. Sorry if the pic is a bit dodgy it was taken with my phone

Actually, I like it too! Maybe it is the wrong length for you - I know that if they are just a little too long they can hang in your eyes and be very annoying. A few centimetres off may make all the difference in terms of "live-ability", and I do like the way the fringe brings out your eyes.

I like your fringe too, but can understand where you are coming from. I don't have any advice as I just cut it all off into my pixie LOL!

i know that you're the one who has to be happy with your fringe...BUT from here, i think it opens up your face and the whole style is very youthful.

I think it is quite flattering actually. I agree with Sharon that perhaps they need to be a tad shorter so that you aren't feeling them fall on your eyelids (that would drive me crazy)

I'm new to the forum but for what it's worth your fringe suits you, it's like mine, I find using a round brush and wrapping it round the brush away from my face so backwards then blasting it with the dryer is the best way to style it, it sounds really odd but it works, I also use my straighteners on it pulling the fringe to the side and curling the ends under slightly in the direction that I want it to lay. If it was thinner then it would be more likely to just separate if it got slightly greasy or rained on and hang in strands. I also dampen mine then redry it to set it back into style, I blast it to the side from the root with my dryer. Sometime I pop sectioning clips in it whilst I'm doing my make up to train it to the side.

You could get it cut into more of an angle to stop it falling in your face.

Love the dry shampoo suggestion, I'm going to get some, it will be easier than just washing my fringe in the sink or having to wash all of my hair when it doesn't all need it.

New here too, but *I* think it looks GREAT on you! I thought about getting a fringe cut a few weeks ago when I went in for a trim, but my forehead is too small for that thick of a bang, so I chickened-out. Really, I think it looks perfect the way you have it styled in the picture! I do agree that a tad shorter might be more comfortable for you. My mom absolutely HATES anything hanging in her eyes. Drives her bonkers, so she has to keep bangs just above her eyebrow (more like that second picture of Jessica Simpson). I'm a hair-in-my-eyes kinda girl, so it wouldn't bother me, but you see it's all personal preference

I like the idea of your bangs, but I agree with Angie that they should be layered and blended. Ideally, they should be more fringey, not heavy and in your face. And end just above your brows.

I've had bangs for years, so my opinion is somewhat biased!

Hmmm, I really like it too, and my bangs are pretty similar.

In terms of styling, I've been told not to use any product on my bangs. It will make them greasy and clumpy. I shower in the mornings, towel dry my hair, and comb it into place before it can dry much (probably within 5 minutes of getting out of the shower). They air dry quickly into place, and I'm all set for the day.

No products, no blow dryer, no round brush. The couple of times I have let them dry too much before combing them into place, they have been "off" all day. I have no idea what I would do if I showered at night (or not everyday), so I hope you shower every morning too!

Wow, I had pictured you with my kindergarten straight-across bangs that my dad did using a ruler in the bathroom. I think this haircut looks GREAT and not severe or heavy at all. I had the same feeling when I tried bangs (with long hair). People kept telling me they looked fine, but I couldn't see myself properly in them somehow. Maybe lightening them up a little with a razor would help?

Oh wow! I love your hair with the fringe! I think it really softens up your face, draws the focus to your beautiful eyes - and just really looks like an up-to-date "do!"

Doesn't look bad at all, I actually like it! But you can get them texturized, thinned out a bit more, so they will be little more wispy. This way you be able keep them out of your eyes better and they will stay more on the side.
Those 2 pics of Ashlee Simpson is what I'm talking about, see how her bangs are more wispy, really shows in pic #1. It would look great on you!

Really, I'm surprised you described them as above the brows, because they look quite long to me.

At the risk of invalidating your feelings, which are of course the only feelings that matter in this situation, I think you look super-fab. I mean, like, amazingly fab!!

But Renata is right -- you should be able to get them texturized to look a lot more wispy if that's the look you prefer!

I like your hair. I really do. I "got bangs" myself several months ago and it took awhile to get used to them. I don't think I'll ever go back now, though.
