Hi Anne --
As a short waist/long torso/short legs person I feel your pain...if your waist isn't below your breasts like mine, I agree tucking into higher-waisted skirts and pants is something you could look into.
In terms of your jeans outfit --
I'm with others who say the purple top is too long for starters. I think if you fold what's currently showing in half that would be about right.
Your example also uses 3 solids, which is definitely more of a challenge...I find it's easier to do the longer layer/"flash prevention" thing when either my topmost or bottom layer has a print with which I can tone in.
In terms of color, I'll often try to tone in with the lower layer like you're doing with the dark purple/denim [see also grey/black or dark denim/dark brown]. Or I'll use similar colors [reds/purples; blues/greens] or values [pale pink/white; pale blue/lavender] in my top layers to reduce the contrast between them.
Since your purple and pink are pretty similar in intensity, I actually think you could get a much more balanced look if your purple top was shorter and your pink sweater was a cardigan or deep V neck [so there wasn't so much of it!].
