Skirt with flats attempt

Dear Fabbers,

I like the idea of a skirt and flats outfit - I have tried with great enthusiasm. The result, however, is not what I was hoping for.
I used a stretchy black tube skirt from Wolford and a a black long shirt. The idea was to wear this with burgundy flat oxfords
and a structured burgundy bag (my newest thrift shop find BTW) and to keep it dark. So I added a burgundy flower pin and a patterned scarf which echos the color. Red sunnies and lipstick.

The outfit is dark and maybe ok for autumn, but then - I would prefer a pair of burgundy boots with it.... What do you quys think? A possible autumn outfit or a failure?

I love the outfit, Katerina and agree with you that's a little dark , but for
cloudy summer days is excellent and why not for autumn ,great. Also, I sometimes like dark outfit in summer, especially in the evening. You look perfect as usual.

i actually like this a lot, but do think this is more of a fall look...i'd try changing out the top for something that either shows more skin, maybe an open collor or more of a lace type of thing, or a lighter color....

I think it looks magnificent! Love it! I can see how you feel it’s not summery enough for your liking though because of the colours/fabrics- but it really is fabulous regardless.
I don’t think we nescesarily always need to dress in the traditional way for a particular season, eg it’s fab to wear white jeans in winter/black jeans in summer. Especially with the indoor lifestyle most of us lead, anything goes now really. If you were literally going to stand in full sun in the tropics all day the outfit wouldn’t be good- but I think for your lifestyle it’s perfect.

It looks terrific. If it feels too "autumnal" because it is dark, save for September days when the light begins to change.

Fabulous dark drama. If it doesn't feel right for Midsummer, how about wearing it in August when thoughts are turning toward autumn but it is still to early to wear full fall with boots. Your thrifted bag is a real find.

I’ve been really enjoying your ability to wear a lot of fabric volume in your outfits. I feel a bit like I’m missing it here, and I got the impression from your comments that you do too. So, I’d suggest either that same skirt with something a bit shorter/wider/boxier on top, or that same top & a vertical knife pleat midi skirt.

I don’t actually think that there is anything wrong with the current styling, it just seems to me that you like the drama which comes from volume. Or another idea is to pair with the existing outfit: something with more fluid shape than the flower accessory.

I agree with you Katerina ,wear it in Autumn with boots .I love the colours that you ve used it just feels a little dark for midsummer.

I love the proportions on this, Katerina. With boots it would lose the element of structure provided by the bare legs.

As a fellow scarf aficionado, I would consider this a challenge to go through the collection and find the magic scarf that will make this feel like a summer outfit to you. Maybe a lighter background, more contrast, or a tonal burgundy to light pink?

I like the shoes and outfit and would be curious to also see the shoes with a skirt a bit shorter - knee length. I’m going to try to make some of these combos work too, since I only want to wear comfy shoes.

Kkards, thank you very much for the nice feedback and the interesting suggestions. I have a black short sleeved silk top - will try with that. I don’t have any lace top, but a variety in other colours. Will work on this formula some more.

Jussie, thank you very much, you are very kind as always. I agree with you on the lifestyle and seasons. Here where I live, summers are in general not terribly hot. These days, we have around 18 - 20 degrees Celsius. Some weeks might get hot - up to 30 perhaps, but generally cooler than that. I work in high effective air conditioning, so normally I can easily wear long sleeves or even a blazer at work. This outfit, however, feels more overall autumney, but it’s ok, I save it for late summer or early autumn, as Suz and Joy suggest.

Agree that you do all challenges with flair and panache.
I think it is very successful but agree the look is definitely for fall or winter but also agree with L’A that brighter scarf, bag and brooch might actually let it work for summer too.
I have to say that I kind of like the oxford ties with the skirt. And lipstick picking up red in scarf is beyond fab.
Well done for skirt/ flats challenge ...... onto seeing if it can work in summer too- because I am watching with interest for ideas

Not a fail at all! This is classic Katerina elegance! The outfit is dark, but I personally like dark colors year round. If in doubt, save the outfit for a dark and rainy summer day, or debut it in early fall.

I think it’s perfect for chilled indoor air in summer! It’s a bold and unusual choice of color which goes well with your style and personality. You can wear this now, whereas most of us could not. You wear it like you mean it, and no one will question it. It has authority and elegance.
