All the ingredients are beautiful, as usual, but the effect, I agree, is slightly different than most of your outfits--a little stodgy, maybe? I love all the darks together (black cherries, licorice and pipe tobacco--beautiful!) and the tube skirt adds something great. It's probably the high-vamp oxfords that are tripping me up. I love them in theory, but find them difficult with longer skirts. Might a pointy-toed flat be worth a try? Your burgundy boots idea sounds good, too.
