I have been trying hard NOT to buy dresses this summer, because I love dresses and they are relatively easy to fit on my body type, BUT since moving to northern California three years ago I rarely wear dresses and skirts. My "dress weather" needs to be 80F+, which has only happened for about 5 days so far this year, and today it's back to a high of 65F.
I've still added a few though...
1) Silk dress that I found on the sale rack at Anthro, deeply marked down and perfect for a wedding that I need to attend this summer (it actually involves two days of dressing up, but I can recycle an existing dress from my well-populated formalwear capsule). The blue is vibrant enough that I might even wear it in December to office holiday parties.
2) Casual black summer dress from the Gap that I couldn't resist, at this price and softness. If it pills, I'll add it to my black-dress-loungewear capsule.
3) Yes, another black dress... I have a navy casual knit dress that desperately needs replacing, which I do wear frequently because it's easy to throw on. This one has pockets, which are hard to find on knit A-line dresses even this season. I'm consciously moving towards black over navy because it's hard to find a shade of navy that I really like, and I realized that black DOES look good on me, especially if I keep some skin exposed. It bookends my hair, goes with almost everything including other black pieces, and is easy to source. Win/win/win.
